South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol delivered an address to a joint session of the U.S. Congress on Thursday. The speech, marking the 70th anniversary of the alliance between the U.S. and South Korea, came a day after President Biden announced plans to send U.S. nuclear-armed submarines to South Korea amid growing concern about nuclear threats by North Korea.

President Yoon, I thank you for your support to the Veterans of America and for your support of our Commitment to defend South Korea. I am 92years old and saw combat in the war north of the border. I have been happy to see the progress since 1952. You have made me smile today and I’m happy that you have stopped at our congress and made known that your government appreciates the Veterans for what we gave to your nation. Shk

All those sacrifices just to prevented Korea from being one. 😢❤ Approximately 150,000 troops from South Korea, the United States, and participating U.N. nations were killed in the Korean War, and as many as one million South Korean civilians perished. An estimated 800,000 communist soldiers were killed, and more than 200,000 North Korean civilians died. If U.S. had stayed out of the Korean war, Korea would be one. Was it worth it for U.S to lose all those lives? What did Americans gain? How does this question looks like now? You know, Korea was about to BE ONE before US stepped in. So one can also argue that it is the U.S who cause the death of thousands of Koreans. You may then argue: But South Koreans live much better lives than their counterparts in the north, so life would have been better if South Korea had won the war! Well, I am sorry to show you this GDP graph: The North Koreans had been always richer than their southern neighbors until the 1970s(The North has much less population but similar GDP). You may then ask: But the north was ruled by dictator! But if you do some research, you will surprisingly find that the South WAS too. Wars are never about good or evil, they are always rooted to national interests. People just painted their enemy into evil to justify their own actions. So what was the root cause of Korean War ? Division of the world by USSR and The U.S. They divided Korea into two for their own interests, also happened in Germany, Vietnam and so on. Just like what the British Empire did in India and Pakistan. Which almost guarantees wars between those two parts.

Just compare South Korea and North Korea since the Korean War. One is a fully fledged economic power which has developed from an agriculture-based economy to an advanced technological and economic power; the other is stuck with authoritarian dictatorship, famine and hunger, poverty and a society stuck in the past with old Marxist-Leninist doctrine. The contrast between the two systems could not be any more clearer, and it is obvious which is the better and more successful system. South Korea is by no means perfect, it had a very troubled history between the 70s and 90s, but their struggles and their success from all their sacrifice is an example to be admired both in Asia and the world.

Yes, President Yoon seems like a remarkable leader and a true patriot. And a true friend to the US. Brilliant man as well, not many people can deliver a speech in another language with such a powerful impact. It made my family cry...It is sad seeing fake news, although myself, and I'm sure the rest of the world, can easily see through their selfish intent. I respect freedom of speech but when people attack their own country's foreign affairs, that is obviously the complete opposite of being patriotic.

Yoon truly makes great account of the value of freedom and it is true that fake news is a clear threat to freedom. Anyway, what is important most is we can feel his true heart and I am sure American people can feel his true heart as well. we korean people are lucky, right?? ^^ Thank you for your comment.
