Winter has begun at the South Pole and each new month is an adventure! I wanted to make a series about what happened each month, so that I can get a chance to chat about topics that I didn’t get the chance to make a full video about! This is Month One: February.

I am currently living and working at the South Pole Station through the United States Antarctic Program. I am not down here as a filmmaker or photographer, but instead work in the Logistics and Supply department. All of these videos are being made during my free time and not during working hours. We are very busy down here keeping the station running at maximum efficiency, but I have managed to find some free time to make these short movies!

Not sure why, but I'm really fascinated by all this. People hanging out in the least hospitable for humans environment. I've been watching a lot of videos about the south pole lately.

I mean I think it makes total sense! It’s such a unique and cool experience!! But yeah, keep doing it! And I’ll have plenty more on the way once my McMurdo videos are all published 😊

Thanks so much Josh! And right?! Such a goofy but fun little tradition. There are quite a few down here. But thank you so much!

I often play Antarctic blizzard sound effects on my portable Bluetooth speakers putting one on each side of me, cozying up, lights low imagining I am in a research station, in my bunker, relaxing. I love it. A question Chris, when there are storms, can you hear them while u are in bed? And if so, do you sleep well through them? Btw, also loving the channel and the uploads

Must be pretty chill there during the winter with only a few dozen people. Do a video on the stars when they are at their best!

It definitely is way more low key than during the summer!! And don’t worry, I will definitely be making a video about the stars ❤️

This is awesome man. I'm completely jealous and now have a new goal in life to do what you're doing for a year. Can you say what company you work for and a good place to start

Thank you so much! It’s honestly pretty amazing 😊 But yeah, I work for PAE as a contractor! A good place to start is to check out the USAP website and look at the various contracting companies and see what jobs you qualify for!! I highly recommend it! 😊🙌

Questions... so many! How does a typical day go? How many hours do you work? What does one do in one's free time? Seeing that you are pretty confined most of the time. Do you keep "normal hours", even when there's no daylight? Is there a "library"... well, books to read that you didn't have to bring, as luggage might be restricted and/or movies?

Oh yeah! These are great!! I want to do a Q&A video eventually so I will definitely keep these in mind!! But we work six days a week for 10 hours. So we have 60 hour work weeks. But this weekend is a special weekend because the sun is going to set, so we have a two day weekend!! But I personally spend a lot of my free time with photography and making these videos 😜 Thank you so much for watching!!

@@GoneVenturing That's wonderful! I have been reading a lot about the history of exploration, as well as of the station itself, its construction history, etc. I understand that things are a lot better than they used to be in the Dome Days! Can you talk about the shower and bath facilities? I read somewhere that a shower is only a "shpritz". Is is true? I see from other tours that there are sinks with running water in the dining areas. Are showers then free flowing or restricted? And can you talk about how waste water is handled? Is it treated and recycled? Until the next sat link-up. Cheers!

I just joined you channel a few days ago and I have always been fascinated with Antarctica and the South Pole..could you tell me how you came about going there to work and live and how that came about...i ask because what i have read and heard you cant just book a flight and stay there because it is one of the most dangerous and remote places on earth.
