One of the coolest parts about being a Fuels Operator at McMurdo Station is the opportunity to travel away from McMurdo to some really cool places! This past summer season, I was lucky enough to get to spend two weeks at the Marble Point Field Camp, which even involved a helicopter flight! I thought it was too beautiful not to share, so I figured I’d make a little tour! So here ya go 😊

I am currently living and working at the South Pole Station through the United States Antarctic Program. I am not down here as a filmmaker or photographer, but instead work in the Logistics and Supply department. All of these videos are being made during my free time and not during working hours. We are very busy down here keeping the station running at maximum efficiency, but I have managed to find some free time to make these short movies!

Agree with Shreenath J Raman. I recently watched my first video on Antarctica on Amazon Prime. Great Job to the producer. BUT Viktor, your videos are even more spectacular. You do an exceptional job of describing and showing what it's like to be there. VERY COOL! I can't get enough. How long until Season Three of 'Gone Venturing - Antarctica'?

I've bingewatched this in quarantine! Great job chronicling life in Antarctica, man. Love it. I hope you can continue to show us your adventures wherever they may be. :) You're a great narrator! Very casual and nonchalant.

Great videos about Antarctica. I have a few questions though: how do you keep the fuel in the tanks from freezing - does it have some badass additives for that? And what do you watch on the TV? Do you have some internet TV or only local movies from USB stick? About how many degrees C where there when you filmed this video? Thanks!
@TheZorch
@TheZorch 2 жыл бұрын
I think most of what they watch is on DVD or Blu-ray. Their Internet is limited, but that'll change in a couple of years when Starlink gets the Antarctic satellites online.

Does all equipment over there run on the same fuel? Any problems with paraffin during the winter :) and how about 2-stroke for the wheat-wacker :)
@GoneVenturing
@GoneVenturing 4 жыл бұрын
Mostly! We have diesel (AN8) and regular gasoline. All the big equipment, planes, and generators run on the diesel. Then all the 2-stroke stuff runs on the gas mixed with oil. We do the mix on site!
@jfbeam
@jfbeam 2 жыл бұрын
@@GoneVenturing I would expect (almost) everything to be JP8. It's close enough to diesel for any diesel engine to run it. But at -40 to -100, I don't know what would be required to keep it from turning to jelly. (other than heating it.)

Nice videos, pretty interesting. One question. Are you guys regulated under the Clean Water Act, SPCC Rule under 40 CFR Part 112 or is different international regulation applicable. I did not notice secondary spill containment, but i assume the tanks are double-walled. Keep sharing.

@@gunnyhighway8415 I only ask as I work in the Environmental Consulting field...one of my functions is writing spill protection plans to keep clients out of hot water with the EPA. So I was just curious about if our own feds follow their own rules. Not a fan of the EPA...hate the UN even more. I also transport hazardous waste and have to deal with international regulations because we are in a US Territory outside of CONUS, and I have to deal with the jerks in China as our waste goest through their ports. A real pain in the butt. I can only imagine the red tape those guys in Antarctica must go through over their waste!!! Would consider taking a job there if it paid astronomically, but I like the tropics too much!

Why is there a massive pipe wrench on the outside of the cabin? Please say it's for something more interesting than wrenching pipes. Preferably something about zombies. But if it is for wrenching pipes, why is it on the outside of the cabin? Wouldn't it be better protected from the elements inside a little hut, and wouldn't it be more useful closer to the tanks?
