4 A.M. and cant sleep , I ended up here and damn what an awesome movie . Great video work and the cars are so bitchin . I was born in 1962 so I grew up seeing cars like these at the drags at a young age . It is what made me a car guy now . I currently am running a 1964 dodge station wagon with a 440 , it is street legal but not really a street car . I love the idea of a stick in it , but I am not one to stay period correct, I would go jerico or something modern vs the old sticks . I have driven cars with factory stick transmissions and lots of autos with trans brakes etc , and even lenco transmissions . The most fun was the factory 4 speed cars with slicks and some lower rear gears , they were a blast to drive even if they were not the quickest of what I have driven . The quickest was a tube chassis car with a glide and brake and it went 8.90's at 150+ but was actually so boring because it went perfectly straight , did not lift the tires at all , and shifter by itself , i didn't even have to steer it was so perfectly set up . I preferred my old bracket cars that would lift the wheels and you had to shift them . Keep up the great work and congrats to all the car owners in the videos , they are awesome cars !

Now that was a show! There are some beautiful cars in this video. I’m 58 now, but I remember my father takin me to Capital Raceway in the late 60’s & early 70’s and seeing gassers. Ahh the golden age of drag racing. 🤙✌️🤘🤙✌️🤘

David Johnston Maybe you remember a B altered Blue VW called the Mori Bros. Chev Wagon? They ran the Maryland tracks up until they sold it in 1972? 40 years later bought it back. Restored it back to the way it was, and now at 80 years old, racing again

Ran a "56 Vette in NHRA B/mp in '68 at Englishtown NJ. 283cuin, ram quads, 327 fuely heads P&P'd and milled for 13:1 cr. Vertex mag, 5:14 gears, Muncie 4spd. 8500rpm hole shots on 7" slicks (Bmp). Absolutely a blast, I just loved those hi-revin small blocks. At 76 I drive '14 Z51 stigray 7 spd . I'd honestly thought that this type of racing was gone for good. Nice to see that it still lives on.

Looks like Shadyside Dragway at Boiling Springs, NC. That's a one eighth mile track. I grew up hearing that every Sat & Sunday.

@@nitrovideoo I was always down in the drivers pit helping my boyfriend with his 67 GTO. He won alot of trophies and money with that beast. I lived on Flint Hill Church road, just in back of the strip. It's great that it's evolved into a major race track in the south.

Im only 46 but since I was a kid building glue together model cars I always liked building gassers. Like the more screwed up a car looks for a single purpose , it fascinated me. Wheelbase altered is kickass too. I tried to be a little funny there , probably didnt work.

This is the very best kinda drag racing! BUT, I PREFER 1/4 MILE! I'd rather see this than AA/Top fuel dragsters of Funny cars. I could watch this and 60s & 70s Super Stockers ALL DAY LONG! 😎👍👍👍

I would say it's burnt piston rings on that side, engine oil is leaking in too the cylinder's. That or maybe the head gasket is leaking oil on to the hot engine block making it smoke like it is. Thanks for asking

Well this class of cars are attempting to reproduce what racing was like pre clocks being at most smaller tracks. All classes are Pre 1967 cars and first one to the finish is the winner all heads up, no bracket crap, no power adders all motor and stick shift only. Thanks for watching Donald.

This is 1/8th mile but it is meant to be as old-school racing before ET mattered. First to the finish line won. When the 50s and 60s street racing there were no scoreboards at the set finish line. Thanks for asking bud.

Back in the day most rods were built at home or in private garages...Not much for safety though. It wouldn't take much for a car to go thru or over the concrete battier into the crowd.

Was April 17 2017 I think he was still driving some in 2017 and in 2018 he had a driver for some of the events.

Hey , I use too own vicious performance cars that took names back in my day almost like these rides. This video brought back some memories like my 71 Charger R/T 440magn, I had 1 - 750 Holley dbl pumper , pistol grip shifter , posi 456 Dana rears ( dump truck axle 👍 ) w/wide 60s & 70s on chrome cregars mags all around . @ 725hp on paper ... ( we didn’t have dyno’s back then you hope mfg info be spot on or you’ll get burned or lose your pink slip for your ride & it happened now and then ) .....Was heading home a ‘69 Roadrunner No hood w/dual high tunnel ram w/dual big carbs Holley double pumpers sucking everyone air up - 😂 he had there . We both had open headers rolling but he had himself for his car & I had 2 ppl in my car. He beep and hit it with slow rolling to start with like myself and I whomp him by a half a car length before we both had to back off by sharp left turn with bus in it :( We stop in time and he gets on side of me and said .. can I drive your car - I said 👎! I figured I take off before I trade him even up for that roadrunner what it had , had all the right stuff but wasn’t setup right...have more stories .. I’ll be around for future videos keep them coming 👍

Look over the track at the 1/8th mile there is a BIG (W) for each lane that will light up showing the winning car.

@@nitrovideoo - I'll be darned. I was paying so much attention to the cars, I just didn't notice. That raises a different question. Those "W's" look kinda Jerry-rigged. Wouldn't it just be easier to use the signs that are in place... or are we returning to Flagmen (women), too? If all this sounds kinda ignorant, I'm a west-coaster, and these cars are suitably awesome, but the events are just run differently than I'm used to. Thank you.

That's just the way it was done back in the day, first one to trip the beam moved on to the next round. This is real drag racing where times are irrelevant.

What's considered a gasser? Like what does a car have to have or do to be considered one? Very curious, I'm 24, always seen them and heard that name but never really knew what the definition was
