My job has me in Memphis and I get free tickets to sports events there all the time. Of course I have already saw Jackson State in Memphis and this was my first time seeing Southern. Watching Southern March in and out the stadium was okay. Jackson State has a much better entry/exit from the stadium and their energy is intoxicating. The Southern percussion also lacked energy compared to Jackson State but the snares are pretty crisp. Southern was plenty loud in the stands but left me wanting more harmony and melody. The cranking of everything in the playbook leads to everything sounding the same. I must say it was refreshing to hear Southern play the alma mater following the conclusion of the contest. Jackson State has a better sound witch is much more diverse and balanced. All in all I enjoyed Southern and they are one of the best in Marching sport.
