in this video I have a look at a 2011 Chevrolet Impala LT 3.5 that was dropped off from my used car guy. After having some trans work done at a local shop the car had a few issues. I give it a quick check over to see what in the heck is going on. -Enjoy!

You sir, are one hell of a teacher. Drawing the circuit out on the board for Marie, demonstrating, and explaining it - even if it seemed silly was brilliant. Exposure to the field, with your personable willingness to teach has left enough of an impression on her that she wishes to follow your steps, and for that you should be commended. A true gentleman and scholar - and mentor.

thats how teahcing mechanic is supposed to be . If a teacher cannot explain all the steps on how things work and why they started to work again afterward he is not a real professional mechanic but only only one with fair mechanic skills and thats it . Thats how you produce good mechanic professional its by theaching them to unsderstand how things work on a car and why it works this way

In my mechanical course when i was a kid in the 70's my theacher thought us how a Ignition Coil worked and not only at the inlet and outlet but also inside the coil itself and the principle that caused it to go in at at 12 volt and come out in between 30 and 70 milli-joules and afterward making the entire class create each our own version of an iginition coil .these guys were master of mechanics

My thoughts exactly. He certainly knows his stuff. A great teacher for Miss Marie. Eric please however encourage her to get into hybrids and all electric vehicles. This IS the future I mean let's face it gas and diesel are becoming more and more antiquated as time and technology increases in vehicles. In the city of Toronto, there are some transit buses that are fully electric. I rode one recently and was impressed with the performance of the instantaneous torque output of the electric motors. Have a gr8 day Eric and Marie.

I know a guy that would try and pay others to tamper with the odometer. Yup, he got busted. I knew he was crooked when he stole two vintage snowmobiles out of someone's back yard, then bragged to me about it. 10 years later, he got busted tampering with odometers and fudging with warning lights on cars he bought at auction then tried to sell.

I work as mechanic at an auction lot. We have a saying in the shop "these cars are here for a reason". In reality, it's not a bad gig. Assess and repair as necessary, and get em through the lanes. Definitely see some odd problems, but once the gavel falls, those cars go away forever. Corporate mandates we don't service what we sell. People really need to do their homework before they purchase a vehicle from an auction. More often than not, a "good deal", isn't..

Tdh Tdh it really does blow my mind, we have a few dealers in the area who bring us their auction cars and man you really do see some weird shit, I mean even on new cars you’ll get a 2019 accord with 15k on it and the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree and all sorts of problems, like what the hell was the story with some of these cars before they ended up at auction

I have been working with electronics over 40 years and have respect for your electronics troubleshooting skills. Here is a tip... When using Caig products such as Deoxit D5, LEAVE THE STUFF ON THE CONTACTS!! The stuff must remain on the metal surfaces to keep working. The "D5" means it only has 5% of the magic ingredient so it is not expected to work immedeatly. After treatment, I often REplug the connector several times to help the Deoxit to work into the metal surfaces. It is interesting to note that the military MANDATES that Caig products be on EVERY contact (planes, ships...etc) because it prevents contact problems nearly forever.

jocool562 gonna have to make that right to the customer that’s all I’ve had my fair share of issues with mechanics messing up my vehicle but I judge them on how they treat me when I come back and say listen you didn’t fix it not that they didn’t get it the first time this is because I do a lot of my own work and know that mistakes happen

They made some great vehicles, but after the 3800 they also made junkers... KZfaq stock bottom end record. KZfaq k.p. mustang. KZfaq LS fest. KZfaq LS powered Lamborghini. KZfaq fastest stock bottom end LS. KZfaq LS powered airplane. KZfaq why the LS is so good. KZfaq 400,000 mile LS powered Cadillac.. KZfaq stock 200,000 mile 4.8 LS mustang.. KZfaq sloppy mechanic.. GM'S drive train's are the number one swapped drive train of all time for a reason...

GM today isnt GM of yesterday today in the crap department its a race between GM and Chrysler Fiat... Both suffer from significant QC problems and use of some questionable quality parts...

Once got a Silverado from a body shop. No crank no comm with anything... later found out when lifting it up I saw the faint words that had been cleaned off the window “lightning strike”. After replacing EVERY module in the truck and a few other parts it ran like a champ. 👍

This is one of the best examples of a voltage drop test ever, Because I have seen way too many techs get stuck with a problem like that. It's when the parts changers go crazy 🤡

She was right though. It's always best to keep your instructors learning along with you. That is the best learning environment. While a new canister vent valve is still in order at least they learned the real reason why it was bad.

Technical school is the way to go. She can always switch over to Hvac, Electrician etc. Your the best teacher she'll ever have, and she seems determined to follow in your foot steps. Great job, DAD.

General mess!! Lol. In your last video you asked us if we liked that type of video. I think this video had a lot of similarities in that you broke things down more. My mom has a 2002 Impala...her security kept acting up so she took it in to the dealer...they said it was the ignition switch and it would cost over $800 to fix it. She brought it home and called me...I checked it out & confirmed the diagnosis...but told her to wait a few days so I could check some things. I looked around on eBay and found a replacement switch for under 35 bucks (not the cheapest but well made)...put it in myself...she made me dinner...YAY! Thanks to you I got fed an awesome meal! :)

Eric, you do a fine job teaching electrical circuits. You remind me of a GM instructor who had the same style of drawing out circuits including the "little guy" living in the ECM. He was an electronics engineer and helped design & write the Cadillac Electronic Service Manual.

These cars are getting ridiculous nothing like when I started out back in the 80s so one can evolve with it or bail!!! When I see Eric with another specialty tool I cuss under my breath while placing the order 😆😅😂🤣

Marie totally called the stuck plunger on the purge solenoid. I guessed that was what it was when there was an evap vacuum leak with no circuit fault (indicating either broken hose or plunger likely stuck open) but she's way beyond where I was at her age. She'll do great, especially with Mr. O giving her some tips and tricks along the way.

I've been turning wrenches for 50 years. Factory trained Jaguar and Chrysler tech at two different dealers and have been running my own Import repair center for the last 40+ years and I attend multiple training seminars annually. I still manage to learn new things watching your videos along with a laugh. Many thanks keep up the good work and hopefully someday we will meet.

In auto-mechanics at Tech School, we read the book for 3 hrs., then had 1 hr. shop, then lunch, then 1 hr. shop, then we went home. They kept the floor clean and NEVER used the Sun Machine! It was the big one that rolled out on a track to a car. It was for show only! There were 4 instructors. One had WAY TOO MUCH military training. He was nothing but paperwork.

This was not a waste of time whatsoever! I thought the explanations on the white board was superb, even for someone "who can't teach". I'm so happy for Marie, wanting to go to school for this! You may not like it, but she could go and do diag for shops like Keith does, which I think is good money and not too dirty. Do programming etc. So she's not going out to the Midwest with her sis then? Either way, good for her, in knowing what she wants to do. Excellent video. Loved both styles... the rambling on, like last one, or this one, with the explanations. Both suit me well, personally. Stay warm you guys! 😊🤗🤗🤗

Sadly, I have seen a plastic bolt replaced with a metal one. A DIY stereo "repairer". Replacing the bolt with the proper one allowed the circuit to complete and made me $$$. It was a tough one to find the short on too.

Marie has the correct type of mind to do diagnostics She is constantly trying to guess the possibilities and remember what she saw last time and when confused isn't afraid to ask I have a feeling she will be great

I surprised myself that I came up with the conclusion about the evaporator solenoid before the definitive answer was proposed. This was a really good teaching session today Eric. I would not have picked up on the poor ground under load after the trouble light indicated ground. I will file that one away to test under a real load...

Dont send her to automotive school! You and what you can teach her are a far better TEACHER than she will get in any school. I say this from experience. You guys rock, you are in the top 95 percentile of technicians. The diagnostic thought process you have is the most valuable asset you can possess as a technician. I have the utmost respect for your skills.

I think your end punch line should be "if I cant do it no one can!", but your too modest for that. You are a very humble mechanic. I like the way you actually care about a persons, budget, and and remedial work like spraying and using Fluid Film on areas where mechanics in England would spray salt water so the part would fail and they would get another job. Great job, I bought a whole load of Astro tools and thier bite damaged fastener removal has saved me. They are not stupidity price like some tools. You get some amazing tools in the U.S and also unlike the UK branchs of Ingersoll Rand, Snap On, Mac they dont say it is doen to the discretion of the man in the tool van! I got a cart load of Snap on, MAC that will cost me £85 just for them to look at the tool! Then they stipulate moving parts are not covered, so any gears, in tools, ratchets are not covered by the warranty or if you beat them up as I have seen you remove bleed nipples with the snap on bits!
