Eric, when you took pictures of that connector, it reminded me of the very *first* car I had to fix *by myself* - my 1972 Olds Delta 88. It was my college transportation car, and one morning I walked to the garage and saw a puddle of antifreeze on the floor - the water pump had failed. I had a choice of fixing it myself, or quitting school 😁. I called my uncle, who was a brilliant man and could repair anything, and he walked me though the steps to replace the pump. The first thing I did before I removed a single bolt? I got out my trusty Polaroid camera (yeah, I'm that old) and snapped about ten pictures of where everything went. Three belts, untold bolts, and one gasket later, I had successfully replaced that pump, reassembled the car per my pictures, and it was perfect - except for one, lonely, solitary blue engine bolt. The car drove great for several more years, but I never did find out where that bolt belonged! 😀😀 Thanks for your great videos!

One bolt left over? No worries, probably why you had a good run afterwards! I used to race speedway here in Aus and the blokes who did our engine builds had to go through a slab of beer while doing a build and had to have at least 1 bolt left over plus a few random washers. The only engine I ever watched them build and fit stone sober and with not a single left over bolt or washer was a dog that wouldn't run right no matter what we did. In frustration they stripped it back down over a slab and had a couple of random bolts left afterward and the thing ran beautifully and survived a full season without issue. Sometimes life just works that way no matter how logic says it shouldn't. ;-)

Not sure if that's because of laziness or lack of training? While it is an involved "puzzle type repair" at least it's accessible and not a dirty, rusty job!

Notice, they never work on everyday driven vehicles that have caked on dirt, mega rust or vehicles that have been butchered by some jack-leg before you. It's all editing and camera tricks. Thank you so much for this video! It helped me fix my issue. The part where you kept trying to show the volts stay around 12 and it kept working and dropping to zero when put it in park. By pushing the volt meter into the connector it made it work. That made me realize that it was just a bad wire connection for the pink wire and once I made a better connection it fixed my problem. Ugh. That took me hours to figure out but, it works now. Thank you again for sharing your hard work on your repair.

Nicely done. I know that feeling of losing something or just something bad happening in the pit of my stomach. Last time was when I decided to double my ram in my laptop. Saw the fan was dirty, so I took it out and cleaned, but when I went to put the fan back in one of the wires was severed. Those are some really small wires, only about 1mm with a few strands, but after finding all the things I needed like my magnifying visor with a loupe and all the soldering stuff I finally got that little bugger soldered together and it seemed to work but still ordered a new fan as it was only $10. I must have broke the wire when I thought I had to pry some tabs but then found a screw hiding under some wires. Such is life. Thanks for sharing.

hahaha......6:10. "that'll put a little pucker in yer...." Reminds me of working on cars with my dad when I was a young lad. He used the "pucker" line a lot. In fact, I definitely got the "pucker" when that plastic trim ring finally broke free! Don't hear it much anymore, but it's VERY appropriate. Another "dad" moment was 6:30 and putting the clip aside for safe keeping. He used to call little clips, snap rings, etc "Jesus clips". For obvious reasons when they'd go flying, never to be seen again...lol Thanks for the memories. You've got a great channel. I normally keep track of where the screws & clips go by "just knowing". A few years ago I gutted the interior of a 65 Mustang, and was FAR more organized than usual, putting related parts in boxes and screws etc in labeled bag. The day after I finished gutting it, I discovered the entire west wall of my garage was being eaten by carpenter ants. I spent evenings &weekends for the next several weeks rebuilding it, so when I finally got back to the car, I was SO GRATEFUL for my uncharacteristic organization of all the bits and bobs.

One important failure that defeated me for years: the front passenger door jammed shut on my daughter's 2002 Sienna. I had just tightened the latch plate down and it never opened again. It wasn't locked and operating the release through the window opening did nothing. I tried relieving tension on the latch, still no go. More than 20 hours altogether into it before I determined I would have to cut a large hole in the door from the outside to free it. Fortunately, the transmission bought it around 300K miles so I was off the hook.

It amazes me how electronics are placed in a position as to receive any spilled coffee, or liquids. These attack all the moving components and later cause issues with conductivity, and movement. And usually a drink holder is nearby just so you have a target to spill your stuff!

OMG! It's amazing how much work is involved to diagnose and repair a simple switch that should be able to last more than a few thousand cycles. As Scotty said "the more complicated the plumbing the easier it is to muck up the works". Subaru reliability isn't what it used to be.

Good video. I'm no mechanic, but this just happened to my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek 3 times before I acted. It's been through 3 winters so I checked the battery. It's fine....amazingly. I'm not good with DYI anymore and It's under warranty so I dropped it off at the dealership. I wish I knew exactly what they will do. Hope they have some competent guys there...

My biggest problem is remembering the order in which it all goes back together. Invariably, I have to take a couple of components off again because something should have gone on first. I admire your ability to remember the order of disassembly so that you know the order of reassembly. Great vids.

This is why i watch your channel, its real world experiences in a shop that most people don't see like when your interrupted a million times while making a video, breaking stuff or loosing a clip, wrong parts, broken parts. You keep your cool on the camera, not sure if i could haha. I used to watch stacy david but then i realize his shows are like him talking about products and video clips to progress on vehicle not the nitty gritty stuff that you provide. Mistakes happen, the service manual is your friend. You also can be entertaining. if i could double thumbs up your videos i would.

I stopped watching t.v years ago because any repair programs were bloody useless. You repair things for real, you show problems and minor mistakes. You are not afraid to show your minor mistakes. Reality or as close as you can get is so much better :-D

Once again, an illustration of how complicated car repair has become - more and more stuff connected to more and more stuff with more and more potential failure points. Excellent repair - much more complicated than a brake job and neeeding much more patience as well. Glad to see you recycling the "schmoo" and the 25 cent "vise clips" - environmentaly sound and pure profit falling to the bottom line. Finally, please say a prayer for all of your loyal viewers when you are in church on Sunday!

Same process basically as I did for my 08 Kia Rondo which has 2 neutral switches, one in the engine bay and one hidden in the shifter. That's a fun job, NOT! Always enjoy your vids. Hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas! 🎄☃️🎅
