The verb haber has a lot of uses in Spanish. In this video, you'll learn 4 (technically 5) of its most common, useful uses: hay, había, hubo, habrá (and va a haber).
You'll learn what they are, when to use them, and hear examples of each one.
This is aimed at beginners, but it never hurts to refresh. And if you are finding any of these forms confusing - just give it time. Often, we just need to hear more examples in context before things like choosing"hubo" vs "había" make sense to us.

Muy bien! Lo único que diría es que es más común oír "cuando era niña" en vez de "cuando era una niña". O sea, normalmente se omite el articulo (igual que en frases como "soy abogada" o "soy ingeniera")

Oye, siendo una persona que nació en Latinoamérica, quiero decirte que tu Español está muy bueno. Y sabés explicar todas esas palabras que usamos cuando hablamos pero es un poco difícil explicarlo a personal que están aprendiendo, puesto que son palabras que uno siempre ha usado. A mí se me hace bien difícil explicar el se, le, te, lo, etc.

Hi Conner many thanks for the lesson, you mentioned something that I suddenly realized could be a major breakthrough for many students wanting to develop listening skills (i.e. like me). I.E. 'contraction', I often attempt to decipher Spanish spoken lessons (no English) on you tube and find that Hispanohablantes contract phrases all the time, often Google Translate can't help as you try to translate a (heard) word that doesn't actually exist! Apart from yourself I have never seen a teacher structure lessons to aid struggling students as to this aspect. I am guessing fame and good fortune will follow someone who can 'crack' this glaring omission, saludos Steve

Thanks Steve! Great point. Spanish speakers definitely do have their own way of "contracting" phrases that differs from our own contractions (can't ,don't, etc). I'm working on more pronunciation videos (which are really two-sided since understanding pronunciation helps with listening) where I'll address this in more detail

Bien hecho! 1st and 4th sentences look great. On the second one, if you wanted to include "había", you might say "Cuando era niño, había una canasta de baloncesto en casa" On the 3rd, your use of "hubo" is great - just note that it's "un partido de tenis" rather than "una partida"

Bien! #2 sería más común oír “había mucha gente alta”, ya que estás describiendo una escena que probablemente sigue así (o sea, no dejó de haber gente alta en Eslovenia)

Hubo, había: There was no one in the room, there were 3 cats on the bed. Habrá: There will be more money next year. muy bien! sería "va a haber" una reunión hoy. Since 'haber' comes after 'va', you don't need to conjugate it

It is odd to me that we would use HABER when SER or ESTAR could also be used to say "there will be". Habrá está mejor que será o estará?

It's not that one is better than the other. There is overlap between them in many cases, it just depends on how you want to form your sentence. But in other cases, "haber" is the more common/appropriate option. If you have a specific example you're confused about I'm happy to try to explain

El habría se usa de esta manera. Habría + que + un verbo en su forma base Habría que ver como termina esto/ habría que cambiar todos los temas. Instead of saying "quizás más tarde a la fiesta, habría mucha gente" , you can say "quizás más tarde a la fiesta haya más gente"

Como dijo @onlyme abajo, el "quizás" muchas veces viene seguido del subjuntivo. Pero si quieres decir por ejemplo, "Maybe there would be more people at the party if there were music", podrías decir "habría" - "Quizás habría más gente en la fiesta si hubiera música." "hubiera" también viene de "haber" - es otra forma del subjuntivo. Si todavía no lo conoces no te preocupes por eso ahora, solo presta atención la próxima vez que lo encuentres y con el tiempo te vas a ir acostumbrando.

Haber is for talking about the existence of something, estar is for talking about the state of something. For example “hay una cuchara en la mesa” (there is a spoon on the table) vs “la cuchara está en la mesa” (the spoon is on the table). Same goes for past tenses
