Always offer tea/coffee or a glass of water, even the use of the loo, always make tradespeople feel welcome, and they will always do a good job.

If you got someone working in to house and don’t let them use your toilet your a wanker. My mate asked to use the loo guy realised he was taking too long for a piss went mental trying to bang the door down and basically kicked him out of his house for taking a shit 😂😂

This is why everything in my walls is enclosed in galvanised conduit. 22mm galv, 20mm plastic, then 15mm pipe up the middle, works a treat, and you have to be seriously determined to persist in drilling after you hit it.

Great result! Being in the US I am often amazed at where your consumer units can be located. Insanely tight spaces with water and gas services within in inches, or mm... I've never encountered anything like that here... Good show, keep it coming, and Happy Anniversary!

We were running an ethernet cable with my dad at a friend's flat this summer, on a Saturday morning. Long story short, my dad managed to drill through the incoming fiber optics cable, which we didn't notice, until the internet radio went silent :D Fortunately, an other friend of mine (we used to work together at our previous employer) can weld fiber optics and has the right tools for the job (that's his day job), and was kind enough to pop by during the afternoon to weld the thing back up. It's still going strong :)

I had friends here visiting one Friday evening, during which they wanted to check their CCTV to make sure the dogs were fine and behaving. Device offline. They thought it weird but put it down to internet or power outage. Well, it was an internet outage. Said dogs dug up the fibre conduit where it came in through the garden wall and then chewed through it, of course taking out the internet connection. Pets 🤷🏻‍♂️

On the other hand, I've been working in the IT/Telecom industry for more than 10 years, so it would be hard to not know someone who could splice fiber optics :) It's not a bad skill to have, I'm considering learning it and buying a splicing machine.

That copper pipe is for the pressure relief valve. Usually kicks back into the wall to spray the boiling hot water onto the brickwork instead of over someone standing beneath it.

I try to be such a customer. Making sure there's coffee, tea, some cookies. The guys putting down the paths in our garden where working for us for about a week. So on the last day I made some "bitterballen". (Dutch deep-fry snack. Like small "kroketten". Try it). Just to show my appreciation for their work.

Welcome back Cory and congratulations for (surviving 😀) one year at the AADC (Artisan Angle Drilling Company)! Nice work with the PVC as a drill / rod holder. A couple of long velcro ties would be a good addition to stop the bits rattling around.

This was a brilliant video. I really appreciated the close-up view of the consumer unit and Cory's explanation of what he was doing. I also appreciated the "real world" situation of striking a pipe with the drill. These things do happen and how we handle them separates the professionals from the cowboys. Good on you Cory. Poor Reuben didn't get a word in edge-wise on this one, but I know he did a terrific job on the EV charger install.

Jordan , Cory Reuben and Lee. Again great content in your video today. Cory your output this year has been excellent. congrats on your year at Artisan and the future to come. You have a great head for problem solving and trouble shooting and thinking on your feet. Would like to to know the types of influences you had growing up to give you the confidence you have and now show at 23. You emit good feelings out and so its obviously you are getting that back in return. Your brain is using copious amounts of energy hence the food offerings. But think of the Science (and Gretta) I like the way you minaturised Max for those close up shots of the consumer unit. Your method of handling the situations as They occur will give Reuben the confidence he needs to handle the unforseen when he turns out as a Journeyman.

I actually invented a similar storage solution at work, except instead of drill bits in a van, it was pens next to a whiteboard, and instead of PVC pipe I used 20ml piss pots. Still waiting for the Dragons to call back.

Drill bit storage tip from a Telco engineer - I use a bit of cable capping tacked onto the wooden rack in the van, slip drill bits into it.

Someone’s probably already said, the copper pipe is the safety discharge pipe if the boiler goes over pressure, it’s shaped so that it points back at the wall and saves hot water being discharged over someone walking by.

Hi cory that s a grate idea to store very long SDS drill bits on a van I myself had the same problem only not for van storage I have been storing my bit in a long cardboard tube for years until Iast week the cardboard tube broke there seems nothing out there to store long SDS bits then I thought get some drainage pipe cut to sute the length of the SDS drill bits and get two screwed stop ends glue the ends on and some webbing stap rivet it at both ends and you got a case to store your long SDS bits and a carrying strap

A trick we used to store cable rods in the van was to use 25mm conduit clips, the plastic tube clips right in

Re sds drill bit storage, I saw someone use 2 horse whip holders to clip the drill bits into. Worth a look!

The drill storage, rather than cutting the end at 90° try cutting it at smaller angle, about 35° and it will hold them better and help rattle a little less whilst driving. That's the way I have always done them in my vans. Just a suggestion. Cheers.

He can also cut a piece out of the pvc holding the rod so it´s more a clamp then a pipe, it would do the same job but much easier getting in&out.

Great video, very educational and informative, funny how you said 3rd year students haven't touched consumer units yet I'm taking the diploma route and I've done my domestic dwelling which is where I learnt about consumer units and the wiring, 18th Ed, Part P and building regs, 2392 and 2919-02. Looking forward to more content! :)

Great job both guys! I looked at your van on the left side door. I see that shelves should be in back instead of in front of the side door. I recommend it. Cory, you should measure before you drill hole. You got hit by the pvc pipe. Dang! Jordan got a leader made drill hole all the time. Thumbs up! Cheers!

Tip for labelling the parts drawers... In addition to a description, use an alphanumeric designation with letters for throws, and numbers for the columns...

The reason the condensate pipe is increased externally is to prevent it freezing . 22mm elbow externally will freeze without insulation

Everyone will drill through a pipe at some point. The first time I done it in 17 years being a spark was a few month back. Was a gas pipe too

The copper pipe at high level, under the boiler flue is possibly the PRV outlet pipe. and was bad luck hitting the pipe, but in all fairness, it should have been the larger size through the wall to inside, to comply with Part L of the building regs, but these things happen, Good solution for your drill bits tho, the simple ideas are the best. Nice job tho :) and nice customers make the job so much better. well done guys.

How did you protect the EV cable from the hot C/Heating pipes? You entered on the left and had to get over to the Right presumably behind all the C/Heating pipes. I would be concerned if they were touching anywhere?

Generally the more well off they are the less they offer. There's a reason why they have money. It's usually because they aren't willing to part with it. You're more likely to be looked after by the customers whom have less.

No, you can see Reuben feeding it through a stuffer at the charger. Assume it's hi-tuff, never used it myself.

Push a piece of foam into the pipe or wrap with velcro ... it will stop the bits rattling around ... it drives me nuts when shyte rattles in the van.

Would you not also consider changing one of the RCD sides/sets over to RCBO's. Gain a couple of ways by removing the RCD, ?

Hi Cory how did you manage to terminate the data cable & install the CT onto the line conductor, I thought watching other videos of you installing Hypervolt EV Chargers, you would normally install the CT Clamp directly in the meter cupboard onto the Permanent Live Conductor

I suppose the CTs could go on the tails at the consumer unit end which would have made more sense in this case.

@@Daniells1982 sorry, when I've watched other videos of you installing Hypervolt EV Chargers, you've run a separate CAT 5 cable directly from the charger to the outside meter box, on this install, did you run an ev cable with cat 5 built in, if so from an electricians point of view, if you did put the ct on the incoming live conductor in the consumer unit is this method just as effective than installing the ct directly within the meter box?
