I’ve driven both the ND and the BRZ/86 at the same track and I personally liked the stock feel of the brz over the ND1. My biggest pet peeve with the Miata was the engine, since it really didn’t have a sporty and energetic feel to it, and the less confidence inspiring front end. I heard the ND2 is a big improvement over the ND1, but I haven’t had the opportunity to try one. I think they just missed the mark with marketing the brz/86, it’s really just the perfect competition to a Miata and having a perfect driving experience.

@@gtiturbo85 I've driven 2 frs's, 3 350z's, and 4 civic/integras, the frs's are slow stock, especially the automatics. Not that the civic/integras aren't slow too, but for the price difference I could throw on a blower, full bolt ons, and good tires and still have money to spare over an frs. I almost bought an frs but they were too pricey for the quality, and I could've bought 2 350zs for the price of 1 frs/brz. It's not about driving them right... they are fun as shit, but they are slow. I'd take an s2000 anyday for the same price over an frs.

Think it might be price to performance. You can get a 350z for $5000 all day long. Frs/brz are still going for $10,000+ and in stock form, they perform the same-ish. The money you save on the car it’s self can get you suspension, wheel and tire upgrades for the 350z.

Hmmmmmm interesting video. As a RWD racer turning into a FWD Racer, my only challenge to you comments on the FWD is snap over steer. I currently race a 93 Acura Integra in the local Track days and Autocross events, I did this because I was looking for a budget car to use while fixing my FC Rx7. Now, I've actually sold my Rotarys stuff and moved into Honda's exclusively. The challenge I have found is getting the rear rotation with the FWD Chassis. As a Beginner, I agree the understeer is what most will see. But as you start to stretch the limits you find the cars tend to have lift off oversteer which leads to alot of higher speed spins or uncontrolled slides. (An Episode of Gears and Gasoline highlights this with their EG vs EK Type R Battle) IMO, the challenge created by being able to find the perfect balance of rotation and control is what has attracted me to pursuing the Integra Chassis and seeing just how fast I can make. Great video guys!!! Keep up the work and I wonder if maybe you guys could do a track test or touch on FWD setups for helping with controllable Rotation? I'll admit I'm still learning, and would enjoy a video on that!

Drifty_Bits_Racing nice to see this comment, as I also had a lift off oversteer event in my mk1 focus that was pretty eye opening. Having a diff helps a lot, a modest amount of rear downforce, and good tires (or even a reverse stagger). Also, you may want to play with using less bar up front or a combination of less bar up front and more in the back. There's so many variables to getting a fwd car setup to work but man is it rewarding. Good luck on your build!

I have 8th gen civic si, and have a reverse staggered setup 235f/215r setup along with higher spring rates in the rear. Great for more neutral setup and dialing out the understeer. I'm sure for your chassis there's similar options to get the rear to rotate.

Can't argue with those options, really. The only thing i'd add, but only because of FCPs return policy, is an E36 and E46. You can run these on a very tight budget with the return policy. If that goes away though, the upkeep will skyrocket pretty quick. That said, the way you guys set up the S2k is extremely confidence inspiring, especially at the limit. The difference between an off-the-shelf setup and something that came from actually driving and tuning the thing is immense. Can't wait for more track footage!

The way I like to explain it, to me fwd is great to learn relatively cheap and quickly. Also more rewarding in the learning curve department because you can go 7/10 to 8/10 quicker than rwd. Rwd is more challenging for sure, harder to go fast and tricky for beginners maybe. But so much fun all the time, rain? It forces you to learn your throttle input, hell and toe to prevent downshift lockup etc. In the end its also a question of preference. I do both, I like fwd when you don't have to be as precise and still have fun and drive fast, bit lazy factor I admit. Rwd, my favorite for the rewarding and spicy moment behind the wheel. I run on low budget, but, brakes pads, better tires, and suspension in good shape is key. It's a lot to learn already even in stock form.

I love all those cars too, even worked in the industry for a long time for HKS, Sparco etc. That being said, a used 6th gen Camaro SS or SS 1LE is a tremendous value. Stock it's M3 or better levels of performance for half the price, available in a manual or a really good auto with paddle shift, well supported, parts are on the cheaper side and readily available, On the 2 SS the interior is actually pretty nice, sounds awesome. I have one with Titan7 wheels, big brembos, and Edelbrock TVS2650 supercharger, Michelin PS4S and a bit of carbon aero. It looks the part and is a blast to drive.

I think the 86/BRZ are in an awkward spot that makes them difficult to recommend right now. A clean used example still isn't less than 10k which is expensive compared to used options like the 350Z or RX-8 that performs at least as well for half the price. New prices compete with the ND Miata which is a better performer in every metric. In that situation, the 86 could only be recommended if you can only have 1 car and do you *really* want to be tracking your only vehicle? It also doesn't help that the next generation is around the corner, expecting to see them available by end of 2021 and the value of first gen cars is gonna plummet when they do.

This is a great insite into chosing a car, for me IMO there's a track code out there. So Miata or we call it mx5, that's for slow old guys, they put a roll bar and harness in there and usually circulate slowly and get in your way. Now for a young guy wanting to kick ass and have a project car to spend all their money on, as stated above, you can't beat a civic, but with a k swap and stripped out, youll kick a lot of medium fast guys in this. If you have a medium budget and want to get into pulling motors and going almost as fast as the exotics, sometimes faster, then an evo 8 or 9 with a built motor is the go. If you want to pay the bigger bucks you won't be reading this and will already be driving a Porsche and doing track days ;)

@@DriftyBits yeah, DC2's have stupid amounts of lift off oversteer. 😅 In fact, it's one of the things Honda fixed for the DC5.

@@armando_alves what's funny is I'm currently building a DC4 for my new track car. I've heard this chassis has even more lift off, so it'll be interesting to see how it turns out once she's completed!

And that lift off oversteer control gets worse if you don’t have an LSD 🤤

BMW E30s of all years. Not to fast or slow. Definitely teaches car control and are blast at the track.

What do you think of a lightly used 370z as a track car? From what I've heard they need some light modifications to do more than a couple of laps in a row, but as the follow-up to the 350z I would think it would follow in the same footsteps.

I own a 370Z, they overheat easily u have to cool it down constantly. Stock diff units are basically garbage. Stock suspension is way too soft. They need some mods to be decent on the track
