This is pretty existentialist for me, he's no acting, when he does connect with the more beautiful side of life through his companions and their aventures he does feel juvenile and happier but it's reminded constantly by a caotic universe that life is not always as one would like. Only that's whats makes him so heroic to me: a being struggling to feel joy sorrounded by sorrow, and never quitting.

Eleventh Doctor: "Sorry, what did you say? Did you mention the rules? Now, listen! Bit of advice. tell me the truth if you think you know it. Lay down the law, if you're feeling brave, but, Daleks, never, ever, tell me the rules!" Dalek Supreme: "Emergency, emergency. The Doctor is regenerating! The Doctor is regenerating!" I love this line because it feels like its also the story of the Doctor most likely after the Time War. He won, and he was the only one left and that must have weighed so heavily upon him. I bet he went to the furthest extents of the universe to see what its all for. All that pain and anguish he struggled through in the Time War just to be left alone.

The Doctor's companions keep him grounded in two important ways.... on one hand he has to sometimes see things from their point of view. On the other hand, sometimes they have to try to see things from his point of view, which is always difficult considering he's had more than a dozen incarnations and lived at least 100x the typical human lifespan, which as Indiana Jones said... its not even the years, its the mileage. And who has more mileage on him that the Doctor?

@@kunaljt I still dislike the idea of Jodie as doctor. I mean, the writing was terrible for her at the start. But besides that. It's just upsetting that the only male hero that does things with his brain instead of brawn, now has female counterparts. I have no issue with time lords being male or female. But the doctor, for me, was one of the only heroes that was male as well as using their head. Really took away the stereotype of needing muscle to win every fight. Just upset that they took that away from young boys growing up.

He isn't a silly old man with a box, he's ancient and terrible, he has caused the deaths of entire civilizations and is feared by both the innocent and guilty alike. The 11th doctor is an incredible character, He keeps up morale, he keeps everyones head over the water, he is the mechanic fixing everything while he himself is broken. “He may be the most broken person in this room, but he still stands and managed his way to fix all of those around him.” While other people show the doctors determination, anger, power, this doctor emphasises his grief.

I remember at least 1 producer leaving the show (Forgetting his name) he was outraged that a 27 year old was the new Doctor. He said "The Doctor can be young in appearance but the actor should be old enough that you believe he could be king of his own Universe" Of the many things that makes this so iconic and special this scene really leaves him with egg on his face. 1 of the reasons Matt was Cast was because he embodies an old man in a young man's body perfectly and this is the best example of that. So powerful 👌

@@elduquecaradura1468 Well put 👌 Especially as Regeneration became an expected thing for the Doctor decades ago most of the Classic era Doctors if not all had a silly and child-like side to them even if it wasn't as common for them to show it as often as in the modern era. Matt's biggest inspiration was Patrick after all. As old school as a Doctor can be and known for a sillier side than Hartnell. The Doctor travels the universe and picks companions he can see it all vicariously through because The Doctor wants to see things that put even him in a state of Child-like wonder. As much as 10 and 11 mean to me it was refreshing that 12 was more of a Classic Who Doctor in age but he still puts his own spin on let's say the Doctor's "Timey Wimey " side. I doubt anyone wants a Doctor who constantly acts his age

This is by far my favorite Doctor Who speech. Very powerful. The emotion in Matt's voice and passion in which he delivers it. Masterpiece. It never fails to give me goosebumps and choke me up. I feel people often overlook Eleven, which is a shame. He embodies the very essence of the Doctor. He's whimsical, quirky, fun, kind, chaotic, broken, angry, and even a little dark. He has layers much like the show itself. This speech along with David's 'So much more,' and Peters, 'Can't I just lose', sum up who the Doctor is. A broken tired old man who sacrifices himself time and again for everything and everyone, and he does it alone. Doesn't do it to be thanked. But because it's right. Because it's kind.

@@Monsicorn if you think that the reason why the heads fall off is cause the Doctor can't get rid of his memories - he knows that by doing this he will end that planet but part of him wants the planet to take it all in and unload his mind of what he has seen and all the secrets that he knows - such a big collective of experiences in his mind - he not only says you can "take it" , but he says you can "have it, have it all" , like he wants to get rid of all this as it is a heavy burden to carry. If you see that way, the way the doctor drops his head is an act of resignation and acceptance that the burden that he carries it is only his to carry - no parasite planet can take it from him - it is not all bad, it is not all sad and we seen during his adventures the ways that he found not only to cope but also to find unique joy - , but it is heavy nonetheless - heavy to a point that his head drops once you seen that it is not longer being taken away from him by the parasite planet . "I saw the birth of the universe, and I watched as time ran out, moment by moment!" that line reminds me of the fandom, and how we view Matt Smith's Doctor. He was our everything for a long time, and when we saw him for the first time in the show, at the very end of The End of Time, we saw the "birth of the universe" so to say. In Christmas 2013, we watched as time ran out for him, moment by moment. until nothing remained for us that night. No time with him and, no space in which he existed. Just us.

“I have lost things you will never understand” I think that has to be one of the most powerful lines I’ve heard. Everyone can relate to it, it’s not unique, but at the same time none of those billions of experiences are the same. Just memories that will never be full comprehended but at the same time can all be empathised with. And that’s the irony of the sentence that drives it home for me. “No one can understand it, but everyone can relate to it”

There are very different interpretations of that. For me, it means exactly what he said, the Doctor has lived through the wonderful and terrible, seen things that are incomprehensible, and experienced loss on a cataclysmic scale. It drives home his alien-ness for me, not his relatability.

I think he was referring to Amy and Rory(and probably to a lesser extent at this point, Rose and Donna) when he says "I have lost things you will never understand" This is the Doctor arguably at his lowest point since he lost Donna, and, this might ruffle a few feathers, but I think losing the Ponds so suddenly and so permanently hit him even harder than losing Rose and Donna did. And of course, let's not forget the Time War, he lost his home, his people, his entire society and every single one of his species. Shout out to that little girl singing by the way, she absolutely _carried_ this scene. Her voice could have made or broken this scene and she definitely achieved the former... The choir joining in gives me goosebumps every time. You gotta appreciate when the child actors are really good, because so often they just aren't.

You can tell the doctor just wants to die. He is tired of people he loves and cares about leaving him or dying with no way of saving them. He’s tired of all the heartbreak and loss he’s gone through his long life. He just wants to rest and stop going though all that pain. But he knows that if he ever does eventually die, it will mean the end of everything eventually and countless lives will scream in pain. So he keeps living through all that pain and experiencing more and more pain and loss, so no one else has to.

I can't even imagine what it will be like if I ever make it that far, but I know that if I do.... my friends will be gone, my nostalgia will be long gone history and my body will be weary. We spend so much time fearing death, in some ways my mind still rejects the notion of being 'ready to go.' Guess I'll let you know how I feel by the 2080s.
