Hi Everyone! Welcome to the first of many Speed Painting tutorials. Today let's paint a Tyranid Termagant in a Hive Fleet Kraken color scheme in less than 30 minutes!
Here are the rules: I will be keeping track of my painting time with a stopwatch. The clock must be started before I pick up the model, and stopped after I set the model down. All the painting and brushwork will be recorded! No cuts or sneaky camera work. The time will be stopped only to allow the paint to dry. I won't be counting the time spent on assembly, priming, or basing.
Why am I not counting the time spent mixing colors, or while the paint dries? My reasoning is that this is designed for army painting. When you paint an army, you won't be painting one model at a time and sitting around waiting for paint to dry (who would want to do that?!). You'll be painting several or perhaps even a dozen at a time, in an assembly line style process. You can work on the next model while the first one is drying, and so on. And as for mixing colors, if you're painting an army with a custom color, you wouldn't mix the color a hundred separate times. It's a pretty wise idea to mix up a whole bottle of the color, that way you only ever have to mix it once. Therefore, I'm keeping track of the time with the assumption of batch painting and pre-mixed colors.
