Penny's commentary makes this video 100% better. I love her opinions and observations, she cracks me up. The two of you should do more narration together in future tutorials. It is a different approach then all the other mini painting vids out there. Just my thoughts :)

@@MidwinterMinis I actuually painted a batch of the monopose gretchin for the bloodaxe army I'm building up step by step. 50 of them. It only took me about.....let's not talk about it :P But I'll actually plan to play them with guard rules once they're done because.....well. Bloodaxe. And nothing newer than 2nd edition. I love the rogue trader and 2nd edi orks, when they were more than just brute green gorillas. They had so much personality :)

This double act works well. Loving the series, it is giving me some great inspiration for my set. I specifically like the two level aspect that gives you a quick guide PLUS the added detail. Congrats.

For the guardsmen I suggest painting 8 of them in one scheme and the rest in one or two different. In the game the max encounter is 8 so you can put these in one side And mix up the rest. Also it would be good to see a couple of different schemes

Another great episode, I enjoyed the casualness (is this a word?) of the narration. I finally started on my box yesterday, finished the Ur-ghuls using your methods and a tiny bit of my own and it took me only one night for 4 (would have been 4 days for 4 in my usual method haha). Anyway, keep it up, get well soon and bring along Penny more often, would be great. P.S. music still awesome, reminds me of old EVE Online.

Cute dynamic in this video! I think the increased purple on their flesh works well. These (wiggly) boys are supposed to be coursing with heretical (and barely contained) energy, so it makes sense for their skin to look both bruised and almost glowing. There are a fair few cultists in this set; I'm excited to see how you'll differentiate the mono-posed models

Keeping things within the scope of a speedpaint may reduce your options a little. Two schemes would make sense; like they have deserted (or been left little other choice) from different regiments/ war zones. Freed from the yoke of imperial oppression would give the traitors more opportunity to try to draw further attention to themselves in the hope of gaining more favor. Maybe some of these lads are expressing their “freedom” by taking liberties in terms of the upkeep of their gear... Green-stuff chainmail is a relatively quick process, as would cutting limbs to re-position them where possible (though risky). My fallback for mono-posed minis usually is to deep-dive in my bitz box, or to add distinctive details to the base. I’ve used finely chopped angle-hair pasta painted bronze/gold in the past for shell casings for example.

Mon the wiggly bois! I think the purple look on the skin was pretty awesome, you didnt mess anything up. And i will have to try that toothpaste trick, have at least three brushes all gummed like that. Great job folks

If they've been gummed up for a while, let the toothpaste sit in the bristles for about an hour before cleaning it out. I'm not sure why it works, but it does! :)

Thanks! She used to play occasionally, and paints very very well. She had a lovely little Tau army, all pin-washed and bright yellow. I've mentioned the idea that she should paint something and I'll just film it, so we'll wait and see...

Penny sounded awesome. I like how you approach mixing your own washes, but can't recommend flow improver enough. Try some liquitex flow aid and your paints will behave and smoothly cover better. Going to try the toothpaste on my brushes right away

Hi Matthew! Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I love using flow improver, but this series is aimed at beginners, and I've used a very limited, basic selection of materials and paints.

I’m right that “Penny ,” isn’t actually a fully committed (aka in both senses/ committed to the hobby and committed to the asylum). It seems like it might be a good idea having someone with this sort of detachment from the hobby contributing to your tutorial videos. It opens it up a bit more for people who are new to the hobby or distant and not entirely engaged with the whole miniature war gaming thingy. Having an outsiders voice on. camera 🎥 or at least passing comment gives it more accessibility to non hobbyists who might fancy a go at painting. Thanks 🙏 Penny and thanks Guy! ✊

Exactly! You've hit the nail on the head. She's definitely not involved in the hobby as a player or painter, but she knows quite a lot about it, and also helps me out in the background because I'm colourblind ;)

Good job to both of you. Thanks for an enjoyable video. I would have gone for a more traditional pale white (Deepkin flesh or pallid witch flesh) for the skin color. But again thanks for sharing.

Younger, more innocent me: "Oh come on, they can't be that bad!" Grizzled veteran me: "Yeah, I've seen some shit, but it was nothing compared to painting #wigglybois" What I'm trying to say, is that these models are an effort in frustration. Everything appears to be made in such a ways, that you can't help but smear paint all over everything.

These guys look cool I hope Dark Mechanicus gets a proper faction at some point I was thinking of getting some extra tiles from eBay and gluing them to the base do you think that would work?
