Speed's Bus Jump: How they did it!

This was pulled from disk 2 of the "Five Star Collection" Edition of the DVD release. It shows exactly how the bus actually did jump 50 feet, with some help... The footage was used in the movie (Including the part where the bus accidentally went off-shot after jumping higher than expected) after being cleaned up with CGI, giving the bus a much softer, and less destructive landing.
All of this content belongs to Fox, who I thank for allowing me to keep this video up since 2008.

They should've included the ramp in the scene, a ramp at the end of an unfinished highway road makes more sense than a bus jumping up from out of nothing

The bus still wouldn't have reached the end so it's kinda pointless.

If only they made the gap in the road at a point where there was a downward slope. The bus making the jump at that point would be a lot more believable and not at a place where both ends of the road were at equal elevation. Anyway a great movie.

The Speed bus jump scene is just a classic scene. In fact, I use this scene to describe how fluorescent lights work. Because, that is really what electricity is doing in a fluorescent tube. However, I would highly advise against trying this stunt. One, your car mechanic will love you afterwards. Well sure, that would be a huge repair bill. And, the street cleaner and other motorists would hate you afterwards because they would have to clean up after you and other motorists would have to deal with flat tires. And, why would you want to try something like this? You wouldn't have a car to drive. But that aside, this just an awesome scene in the movie.

Okay, I’m going to need a bit more context here. You kind of buried the lead on this one, spending more time explaining why you shouldn’t attempt this yourself. Which yeah, you’re definitely right, tho I don’t think anyone really needed convincing of that either. Anyways, all of this just to ask, how exactly is this scene used to explain how fluorescent lights work? I mean maybe I’m just dumb, but I’m not really seeing the correlation between the two. I mean especially without more context of what aspect or behavior you’re specifically referring to within the scene. The act of the jump itself, the way the bus behaves while airborne, something to do with the logistics or even just the way it comes down with the bus pitched up, leading to the rear wheels touching down first or maybe even all of the above? Could also be none of the above and you’re referring to the actual real life production related to this behind the scenes vid. Anyways sorry to randomly ramble on like this, I’m just legitimately curious what the connection and or correlation between the two actually is. I mean hell, maybe I’m just way overthinking this and in reality this comment is just engagement bait. Hoping that because you mentioned such a random notion, only to completely gloss over it without any context. Never actually elaborating on how you explain the concept behind fluorescent bulbs behavior or what’s analogous about it. As I know many commenters or even more often content creators that will regularly say something controversial or intriguing, for the soul purpose of instigating engagement. Whether that be outrage or just constant comments looking for answers. In either case, I am still curious and would like to know if there is a legitimately good analogy between the two. As I’m at a bit of a loss, unable to figure out the connection.

Speed was one of the best movies I’ve ever watched which features a bomb on the bus and in order to keep the bar from exploding they would have to keep the speed above 50 miles an hour if not then the bomb would detonate but in this behind-the-scenes footage here they used an actual 1960s 1970s era bus to do that jump and when it jumped this thing landed and the whole structure collapsed because all of the windows and the tires have blown out and the engine was a total loss also because the stunt man was just interviewed on here.

For what it's worth, I'm glad they didn't use a computer-generated bus; and instead, put money into making a real city bus jump. A remake would no doubt use CG, and I swear I'll see right through it unless the story captures me just right. If some of you want to go on about what parts of a movie aren't scientifically or physically proper, that's cool; I'll just watch the movie.

It is great if that bus had 2 powerful diesel turbos and a diesel supercharger. Therefore this bus speeds greater than 100 mph if powerful diesel engine mods happens.

It's also an insanely complex and costly thing for a single stunt, especially in 1993, not to mention the wireless range needed for the runup, and accuracy difficulty making it much less safe and less likely to succeed.

The Speed bus jump would never work. In this video here, it was a 2 foot drop, the bus was toast. The doors were screwed. The oil pan is done. At a 50 foot drop on the other hand? Nobody would have survived. Windows would have smashed. The floor would have caved into the bus. And, in the movie, the bus had a bomb that would detonate if the bus dropped below 50. Remember? There is no way that someone could manage to keep their foot on the gas after something like this. And, even if you could keep your foot on the gas, the bus hitting the pavement in this manner would have locked the tires up and the bus would have siezed up, and then the bus would have detonated. No. The Speed bus jump stunt will never work.

We know this very well, we don't need to say much. Physically it is impossible for a bus to make this kind of jump. (apart from the other details, but anyway, it's a movie, so everything is valid). But it was quite interesting the way the scene was done and everything else, everything could go wrong, but thank God, everything turned out well. The rest was Hollywood magic, hahaha, and one of the best action scenes from one of the best action movies of all time ^.-.^ 😄
