I love these early GDQ runs. I watch them over and over again. I love the friendly, casual atmosphere, the completely natural flow of the commentary and interactions, the unrehearsed, unplanned familiarity of it all. I would never watch GDQ from today (2022), due to the canned, over-the-top hype, the sanitized, forced family-friendliness, etc etc

That was awesome! You guys practically have the whole Zelda 2 game world memorized. I would've died a million times without the candle. It's cool to see such dedication. I never would've thought that Zelda 2 could be beaten in about one hour.

this was my dearest ZELDA NES game, I always loved far more the 2D-scrolling aspect over the over-viewed cam angle, I just always felt is far more appealing & better gameplay, I still have my NES cartridge along with my Sacred CASTLEVANIA trilogy & Bionic commando, Ninja gaiden etc ;D

Just beat Zelda 2 almost without having to look anything up. I used a key from the ocean palace in the three-eye-rock palace and was going around the ocean palace stuck for two days before I tried using a fairy and managed to get through the door. After beating the palace, I looked up to find where I went wrong and realised you can use small keys from 1 temple in another temple. Didn't realise that lol!

lol @ that Reimu that is always there XD Tooo cuuuuute. That was kind of epic how he finished the Thunderbird while it was at the exact middle of that altar but no one seemed to care. Is that just really easy to do or something once you're this good at the game? I always loved that tiny elder that gives you the Triforce and does some kind of old man cheer for you.

Always had a love/hate relationship with this game..I loved the level-up RPG elements and all the spells....hated the sidescroll mechanic...because DARKNUTS. That is all.

One of the other games during the marathon is Super Metroid on the SNES. One of the rooms in the game contains some animals, that you can either save from destruction or leave to their fate. There was a bidding contest during the marathon to decide which the runner should choose.

With all the magic starts speed runners use, I wouldn't be surprised. Just kidding my jaw would drop. Because the Bubbles (flaming skulls, I know, great name right?) move much faster than you do, and when you hit them they stop for a bit.

if it's a dark area it's because they don't have the candle so they can't light up the area to see them. or a problem with streaming if it's not a dark place like a cave.

The game is pretty balanced; magic is the only way to restore life, which can be very essential, so using the magic on the fairy is like punishment for not getting the key in the first place.

I don't really agree with the "fire is useless" meme. It's the only way to kill certain armored enemies, and it gives Link more ranged damage. The fire spell is not very useful in a speedrun, but speedrunning is a perverted form of gameplay. Anybody playing the game normally will probably be happy to have the fire spell. (I think speedrunning is great: it's just not the the frame of reference from which you should evaluate game mechanics. Also, I'm obviously not talking about _sexual_ perversion.)

Go ahead and make a video of this and cut out the donation reads part. This is a charity event, and they've made it a point to acknowledge that people are willing to donate. In some ways, its the organizers' way of saying thank you to those people.
