I've seen a lot of sprint car racing over my 64-plus years, but the Feature Event I saw recently at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio was as good as it gets. On a brutal hot (mid-90s) afternoon, Cap Henry, Zeth Sabo and the open wheel winged warriors put on an amazing show for the fans sweltering in the early summer heat. Strong car counts in both the 410 and 305 divisions led to an amazing night of sprint car racing across the board. Both divisions produce some of the best weekly open wheel racing in the country, racing at Attica Raceway Park Friday nights, and Fremont Saturday. You'll see and hear an interesting conversation with Cap Henry, the 2024 Ohio Sprint Speedweek champion...and meet his crew chief Zack Myers too, and so much more! Join me, the History Mystery Man, for another amazing open wheel wild one! Thanks for your support!

So happy you got to interview a kinda little guy who scrapes and works hard every week to be at the track. They are the ones that get overlooked and had great stories and experiences. Love Cap Henry 🏁 thanks for the history of the town

Cap is a great driver and seems like a really good guy. My wife and I went to the Rutherford B Hayes House one time while camping at Fremont for the races. Definitely worth the trip. Another tour we went on while there was the old fremont jail. You would like that tour. It was really cool.
@HistoryMysteryMan
@HistoryMysteryMan 25 күн бұрын
Yeah...thanks for that idea on the jail, Bill; I'm sure I'd like that. And hopefully, they won't make me stay, although I hear that jails provide 3 squares a day. HMM

Another cool video. Unlike the other dirt tracks (I've been to Toledo a couple times) you visited and videoed this year, I've actually been to Fremont. I was crewing for Mike Harmon at Toledo and decided at the last minute to go watch some sprint cars. I don't remember much about it, except the track was relatively flat and there was lots of wheel spin and that still seems to be the case. They also ran a dash race of some type where 410's, 360's and 305 sprints all raced together and the 410's extra hp didn't make much difference. I think a 360 won and the 305's held their own. Anyways, cool interview with Cap Henry (he did mention Sammy as his top 3 greatest!). I didn't really know much about him other than seeing his cool name in results over the years. Safe to say he was doing all he could to win the race!.Also nice to see Sean Rayhall running good. A guy I remember from the Road to Indy from a road racing background that went sprint car racing. I find it amusing he was a protege of Graham Rahal and actually drove for them, I think in sports cars?
@HistoryMysteryMan
@HistoryMysteryMan 18 күн бұрын
Interesting...I never knew that about Sean Rayhall regarding his road racing background and his connection to the Rahal's. Maybe his road course experience is serving him well in sprint cars on dirt, where you turn right as much as you turn left, sometimes more. Thanks again, Gregg...HMM
@greggrauscher34
@greggrauscher34 12 күн бұрын
@@HistoryMysteryMan that could very well be true. From what I remember he had what it took to be an Indycar driver, winning a couple Indy Lights races despite never running a full schedule, but he could never get the funding to move up, instead he ran a few years in sports cars, now hes running sprint cars for fun (and doing pretty good it seems).

I always enjoy your coverage of the racing itself, but the real highlights of your videos are the conversations with the people in the pits. You must carefully pick your times to approach drivers, crew members, car owners, etc. It never seems like the person you're talking is anxious to end the conversation. You must have a good sense of how much time you should take when everyone is busy with their race prep.
@HistoryMysteryMan
@HistoryMysteryMan 25 күн бұрын
Thanks friend. You have an uncanny ability to recognize what it takes to do this. Part of my secret is getting there early. I'm often there well before race teams arrive. It's much easier to talk with people before shit hits the fan. I try to make it fun for the interviewee too. Careful balance on how much time to take. Again...earlier the better. Now if I could just figure out how to get more people to watch my videos...HMM
