This week at Speedy's Garage I take a look at how pump E85 compares to race E85 purchased in drums. The biggest difference between pump E85 and race E85 is what the 15% "other" material consists of. Pump E85 can be almost anything for that 15% where race E85 will be a high quality hydrocarbon (like race fuel). I was curious how the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Go Man Go would react to race E85 on a pump E85 tune.

As you know I'm in this battle right now myself. I have been fighting 93 with 104 issues. Good to see that you moved to E85, if I keep the car I might move this way. Also holy giant funnel batman!

Afrs and gas changes is why i perfer to tune in Lambda. 1 is 1 is 1. No matter the gas. Lambda confuses people at first but once you get use to it its amazing. Its why i love my aem series x widrband, and my fueltech wideband set up. Both can be changed to display lambda

Thanks for the video. I’m boosting my turbo civic. Just want to run 1 gallon of e85 to full tank of 93. Adjusting the afrs get my confused right now. Seems like I need to just add more fuel in the table to compensate.

Hi Speedy...not exactly on subject but I have been wondering how changing tunes would work if the tune is "locked" meaning you purchased it from a tuner who locked the tune. Do you have to contact the tuner every time you want to put a different tune into the ECM? If you are changing the OEM tune yourself, it appears as if you pay to get the computer unlocked (depending on the year of your model) and the required number of credits, then after saving the OEM file, you make your changes and download/write it back into the ECM which you can do as many times as you want for your car. Thanks

I’m running a stand alone wideband I’m tuned on 91 pump with 50/50 water alcohol injection and see 10.5-10.7 afr I have plenty of pump and injector what if I run 91 pump and e85 to get a mix of E30 would I see a leaner af at wot such as 11.5?

Once the can is opened best to use it up. If sealed properly it's good for about a year if stored proper.

I've been running E85 in my F2 Procharged '69 Camaro for over 5 years. Where I live in California the E85 at the pump always measures 90% or better on the ethanol content. I checked it periodically during the first 6 months or so and then stopped. There's no reason to continue checking it.

Speedy, I live in the Pittsburgh area. I’m using ost for my flex time tuning, mike said the flex sometimes is “finicky” . Would you recommend the 2 separate tunes or just the flex? Love the channel. We basically modeled my build off your channel.

I'd get a Flex tune and a straight E85 tune to have as well. Options are good and yes Flex Fuel tuning can be tricky.

@@SpeedysGarage it was suggested a 93, and e85. I don’t plan on tracking the car but if I do both I would probably find some time to do it. I’ve used them before and they’re pretty damn good.

93 octane is a going to the grocery store fuel, so keep that in mind.

Do the Hellcat tuners lower the AFR on our cars using pump gas for the cooling effect? I know I hear 11-1 as a good 93 octane AFR. My car was tuned into the low 10s on AFR but I figure it's because of the higher boost level than normal on pump(17lbs). I have to be giving up some power running this rich but right now I am not running the car hard and have E85 mods in future plans. Right now I just need a dual pump since I already have KB Boostapump, bigger injectors( currently 1050x's in the car), and a couple of smaller pulleys. I will be porting the factory blower through Kong and going with a 108mm throttle body. As a safety measure I might throw a Meth injection kit on it. Going to probably let Dusterhoff tune it. I like Barth but I want to use HP tuners since it will allow me to make little changes.Ronnie Fowler has a big power Charger (1300+) in Smyrna and he likes those two. His tuner does race tunes only. I've talked to Barth in the past and he was very helpful.

I've seen some tuners that do command a bit richer AFR. IMO 11.1 - 11.3 is A OK. I'd personally not want to see it go in to the 10s though. It's not so much about leaving power on the table as it's probably only 20 or 30 tops, but more so what all that extra fuel does to things like cat converters etc.

I've run the older ID1000 injectors for a long time, but recently made a change, stay tuned :)

If im tuned on Pump E85 would I benefit running a VP E85R ? Pure

I use Renegade brand fuels so I'm not all that familiar with VP brand, but if it's just racing E85 the benefit would be know it's good E85 with a good base and not just some junk hydrocarbon. I run Renegade Race E85 at the track for this reason.

"Better" is subjective, it's what I do and have had good luck with.
