Here in the USA, you'll never catch me on a hi-way or city street. The only roads I ride, are the ones on the map with no names or route numbers. Just the narrow squiggly gray lines on the paper map. I especially love the roads that hug a river bank. My own personal roller coaster! Might be time for me to pull the trigger on my last road machine, & Guzzi is at the top of the list right now.

Yes. The same goes for here in southern California. I think it would be difficult to love this motorbike if you lived in the mostly flat UK . . . besides, they ride on the wrong side of the road there! 😉

Exactly my first reaction! I test rode one last week. As l set off l wondered what the hell l'd sat on! I was so disappointed 😞 Was on it for about an hour and 15mins and by the time l was back at the dealers, l was smitten. What a brilliant bike. I'm seriously thinking of having one. 😃👍

They're not ordinary mag wheels neither. Moto Guzzi designed them to flex and have the feel of spokes. Spoke do still have a more comfortable ride and are less liable to breaking when hit hard, kerbs and potholes can break an alloy (which is why off-road is steel rim and spokes only).

@@jeffslade1892 interesting that you mention the engineered in flex. I thought the design looked weak, because the spokes are not attached radially to the hub & rim.

@@savage22bolt32 I noticed that on the new one. The older design is radial but the alloy "spokes" have a bend in them. I gather they use an aircraft grade alloy that can flex a bit and does not fatigue as quickly as normal alloy wheels do. Even so, alloys are not for off-road use.

I have a Dart Marlin on mine. It maybe, if, but, adds just 5mph to where the wind buffeting becomes tiring. Mainly it disguises the Topolino ears. The only way to avoid that fatigue on a naked bike is to stick to 70-ish on a motorway (I know, eat lunch, read newspaper). Motorways are really really really really boring and best avoided. Sometimes motorways cannot be avoided, they are for long journeys and there is a temptation to open the throttle (watch the birdie, cameras). But as air resistance rises with the square of velocity, that constant wind pressure can wear you out after a while. You want a Goldwing for what, it's got heaters too.

I would never enjoy a Harley (particularly the one she rides), so Saffron's view would not mesh with me or be relevant to me. Seems like the Guzzi would be heaven in town as she somewhat pointed out at the beginning. I have to say that so far, out of all the KZfaq channels that MCN has the reviews that seem least relatable period.

What kind of mpg are you getting? I have a V7 Stornello in my sights, but i hear getting much more than 50mpg is slow work. Kind of ruined by owning a bike that will do 80mpg, but pretty souless.

@@skaraborgcraft I’m doing a lot of highway miles with my V7. I’m averaging between 60 to 70 mpg. I don’t drive crazy but do rev it to adjust to traffic

Jeff,you sound like you have a good handle on the information I'm looking for. The V7ii with the 2800 rpm peak torque is the one I want. Do you know what model years I should be looking for? (I assume the V7 III is a newer bike) PS 98% of my riding is on twisty, hilly back roads in NE corner of USA.

@@savage22bolt32 seriously, you do not have twisty back roads in the USA. English lanes are maybe 9 ft wide with grass growing up the middle and tight bends. Lane literally means cow-path, designed by cattle. What you have are like our rural B-roads, really nice on a Guzzi, moderately fast sweeps. But if they've got straight bits they're probably roman and about as flat and level as a fairground ride. The little lanes are best left to the specialist turns on a sixpence Enfield 500 - it's actually a "heavy trials bike" (and won a lot of prizes at that). We've had american guests here who have been shocked at how twisty our main A-rods are, I've no idea what they'd make of our D-road mouse tracks ;) The V7ii was 2015 and 2016 but you may find 2014 and 2017. The V7III was 2017 on. The V7 IV (850) 2021-on. I had wanted a Guzzi since the 80s. So I test rode both at the same dealer in 2018 - a used V7ii and a brand new V7 III. Neither lacked power. Both were comfortable and easy to ride, no vices. But I had to make a choice. The V7 III didn't like to potter at town stop-start traffic speeds as nicely as the V7ii. Although they will bumble along at low revs, the V7 motor is quite revvy. Whereas the V7ii would happily go clean over the peak power revs, with the V7 III it was like hitting a wall; more important in intermediate gears. I later learnt to use the torque by changing up before overtaking a car (aka mobile chicane). I prefer a relaxed ride, I don't want to think too much about operating the motorbike - the Tigger 800 was constant gear changes. I like to enjoy the scenery not study the tarmac. It's very easy to go too fast and get a ticket, or an ambulance. Hence partly my preference to get off the main roads and out of the heavy traffic, they're not a lot of fun - which is what a bike is for.. Because the motor will happily run at any revs it really does need a tacho to remind you to change up. The gear change indicator on the V7 III was nice but I can count up to six.

@@jeffslade1892 Jeff, thank you for the very thoughtful reply. My daughter married a British lad from Sompton/Worthing. When I flew over to meet the in-laws, they never took me on any of these narrow lanes. I will scold them for that lapse! I found a 2016 V7 about an hour drive away, so l will look at that. Currently, I'm riding a CRF250L, and after riding a couple of hours, my left hand cramps up from all the shifting. I'm not a speed demon, my most enjoyable miles are lugging an engine & putting around, especially in October when the leaves are changing color. I can't wait until my next trip across the pond. Planning to rent a bike and spend time out on my own. One thing on my bucket list is to hit some of Ireland, and ride the TT circuit on Isle of Mann. I'm just terrified of making a mistake on the road, especially at a roundabout. I've never driven on the left side :-0

@@jeffslade1892 My in-laws tell me they don't know where the narrow lanes are located. I think most of their lives were spent in London, although now they live on the south coast. They asked me to ask you what part of England we should go to, to find the narrow lanes.

@@savage22bolt32 I live on the North Downs and Dorset is practically all little lanes. Suggest find an old Bartholomew half inch map, they were drawn with the aid of cyclists and show all the little lanes. My method is, "Where does this one go?" The south coast is 630 miles, whereabouts?

If you like chrome finish, spoke wheels, don't mind tubed tires, a halogen headlamp and an extra 10 kg or so compared to Stone - go for Special :) Special also comes with an analogue duo cluster, that for some people is more than necessary.

I never liked painted engine cases either. Give me bare aluminum. The Japanese were painting their engine cases silver way back in the 60's. All of the English, Italian & Spanish bikes I owned were bare aluminum castings.

Anyone know if it’s possible to retrofit analogue clocks on the non- special versions?

@@Victor-vf1fi Everything is perfectly fine. It’s a lovely bike and is well manufactured with components either made in Italy or sourced from well known brands. Last year I ride 4000km and before parking it for winter. The only issue is a little oil “sweat” near the oil filter, which might be resolved by application of a little torque to the bold. But due to it’s not a leak I didn’t do anything yet.

I've got this exact model and it just needs to be tightened, not even an issue. It never movee once tightened properly

Same where I live in the Western US. No Euro bikes except BMW and KTM. Have all the Rice Burners here but exotics are 3 or 4 hours away. Too far.

I have loved Guzzis for 50 years, but B4 I buy one, I'd like to know if normal maintenance parts are in stock in the US. Anyone know? Ordering online from a dealer with 3 day shipping is not an issue for me. But I don't want to wait for a ship to bring my part from Italy.

If you have a dealer you should have a stock aswell I suppose

Some people care about their neighbors, and choose not to annoy them. The average person doesn’t care about motorcycles, and a loud exhaust is seen as a huge negative.

I once owned the most classic Guzzi ever. The 850 Le Mans, the first incarnation, before the company applied Mk numbers.

I agree. I have both the V7 III Special and the new V7 850 Special and the older one definately has more character, i.e. a nicer exhaust sound and more (good) vibrations. The V7 III Special is my favourite bike and that's from someone who ones BMW GS, Ducati Multistrada, Moto Guzzi V85TT and more.

@@fasteddy3661 I bought a BMW R9T Pure a year after I got the V7III. Wanted more power for overtaking but I hardly ride it. It just underwhelms me so much . Sure it can take off ,but I am puzzled how a 1200cc big twin can have so little grunt low down and I seem always to be changing to a lower gear where the V7 just pulls It`s the Guzzi that is my go to ride. I know I will never sell the Guzzi. I am going to revisit the V7 850 and see if I can put my finger on what it is that did not convince me to swap my III.

@@fragu123 And yet strangely I feel that owning a 1200 Boxer engine and riding the aforesaid boxer engine, for some considerable miles ,I make the outrageous claim to be qualified to comment on my motorcycle. You know ,my motorcycle ,that I bought with my money and ride around the same roads as the Guzzi and duly make a comparison. Famous for low end grunt? Compared to what? They aren`t a long stroke engine like a Harley which is an engine famous for its low down engine pull. And if they are so " grunty" why has the newest Boxer gone to a "shift cam" engine specifically to improve low down pull?

MCN's videos are quite poor set against many of the other KZfaqrs. Seems like they haven't realised they could sell more papers by using YT properly. TMF probably sells more papers for them than videos like this one.

Yes. Agreed. But, 'box ticking' with diversity whippersnappers is the norm for media, these days. Merit is out the window and diverse box ticking is very much in, regardless of lacklustre results.

We are doing this with all the long-term test bikes, but thanks for your input.

We have those too. This is about spending several months living with the bikes.
