Spider Farmer SE7000 Review: A Powerful Bar Light for Your 4x4 or 5x5 (w/ High-res PPFD Results!)

The Spider Farmer SE7000 is an absolute unit - the overall dimensions are just shy of 46”x46”, which means you can just barely squeeze one into a 4×4 tent. Spider Farmer claims a PPF (Photosynthetic Photon Flux) of 1,780 micromoles per second, and power consumption by the driver is rated at 650W AC. Efficacy is reported at 2.75 umol/J. Spider Farmer suggests a hang height of 12-24″ for this lamp and states it’s built to flower up to a 5’x5’ grow space.
In this video, we'll unbox and build the SE7000, then test power draw, test temperature, and show you some high-res PPFD results for both a 4x4 and 5x5 tent.

Great to see the PPFD maps at different hang heights. Until I can grow a perfectly flat plant canopy, the readings over 1' to 2' feet of plant depth are valuable. As always, super detailed and really appreciated!

Chances of you reviewing comparing this se7000 and the new 8 bar set up they have now? The "upgraded' has more blue in the spectrum and 2 more bars but 500 less diodes. And the advertised ppf is way more. Great video BTW and love the site!

Apparently this SE7000 is the 1st version. 6 bars, 650watts. The 2nd version of the SE7000 is 8 bars and draws 730 watts Annnddd..... It's only $41 more. Info for anyone that's interested

great vid!! any idea how the upgraded version compares? you get an additional 80 watts and 2 additional led bars yet 642 less led's. also, why would they opt to leave out the IR and UV lights on the 7000 only?

I was able to get the upgraded version and it really is a nice light. I have it in a 5 x 5 and it actually more light than most people will need unless you are running CO2. Veg is about 40% on the dimmer and flower about 65%. So quite a bit of overhead left over to play with later in the grow. I'm not worried about a few missing diodes which would just be overkill for most amateur growers.

@@concreter6832 I would start off about 3 feet above the canopy and see how your plants react. You can tell if they are happy or not. I know like that sounds like more space than you see recommended but it's a powerful light and can overwhelm younger plants especially. Hope that helps

@@concreter6832 Pretty sure you'll like that setup. You might need to run above 65% at the very end, but if you run much above that, you will generate a bunch of heat but still cooler running than your old setup. I've gotten some big fat nugs with this light.

Hi , wondering if you would help a guy out here. This LED is so confusing for one. I've got a 4x4 tent AC Infinity with the awesome exhaust fan. I bought those budget crap Blurple light led lights. thanks for the great video! it's nice to know how easy it is to set this light up. i am in the market for a good light and this is the one i have been wanting, but i am undecided since spider farmer hasn't paid me a dime for any of my affiliate referrals since i have started with them. every month they tell me the same thing. "we'll send it out the first of the month" which never happens. have you tried the affiliate program? if so, how has your experience been so far?

Well, a few months down the road, I can identify. I’ve been notified for 8 referral orders and every single one of them was followed by another email an hour after saying the referral was “updated” and removed. None show up in my dashboard. They told me that all these orders were cancelled by the buyers. Ha!

They are 2” 4x8 foam panels from Home Depot with mylar glued to them

given the relatively low efficiency compared to their reported 2.75. Do you suspect the diodes aren't of the SL bin?

My numbers are less reliable because I’m just estimating efficiency based on the photons that fall on the measurement surface. Their number would be capturing all photons leaving the light.

@@LEDGardener hmmm I see your point but when you compare your test numbers to other lights from your testing environment, for example the HLG scorpion diablo, the efficiency is much higher. Is that enough evidence to suggest one light may be using better Bin diodes?

I would guess that if there’s something that’s lower efficiency on this light, it’s the off-brand driver. It feels much lighter and less sturdy than a 600W Mean Well.

5x5 takes around 800-1000W to light properly, check out the Photontek 1000W CO2 PRO, drmjcoco made a video on it. I would honestly just recommend people use 4x4 instead. The amount of light it takes to cover a 5x5 costs the same amount as the amount of light needed to cover a 4x8. You can easily cover a 4x8 with 2 lights you can get for $700-800 each, so $1400-1600 total, but a single light strong enough to cover a 5x5 properly is $1400-1500. 4x8 just makes more sense

@@SouthWardBrazy515 The HLG 600 and 650R barely cover a 4x4 properly. They will never cover a 5x5. Do the math, you need at least 40W per square foot to cover a 4x4 area. So you would need 1000W to cover a 5x5 area

@Paul The SE7000 doesn’t cover the 5x5 as evenly as it should, he literally shows you in the video how it falls off at the edges. Look at the par graph of a Photontek 1000W light in a 5x5 and you will clearly see the difference

The measurements for SE7000 is in a 1.2 x 1.2 tent = 1.44m2... The measurement for HLG are in a 1.5 x 1.5 tent =2.25m2 The HLG were tested in tents that were 56.25% bigger The SE7000 in a 1.2 x 1,2 tent only produces 39.44% more light than the HLG's in 56.25% larger tents So when you look at the maths, what do you think would happen if you put an SE7000 in a 1.5 x 1.5 tent ? Or if you put the HLG lamps in 1.2 x 1.2 tents? The HLG lamps will beat the SE7000. They are clearly brighter and more efficient at turning electricity into light. The higher efficiency of the HLG lamps is no doubt due to HLG lamps using Top-bin Samsung's and SF using lower bin Samsung's, if at all, given they BS and grossly inflate their figures! To answer your question, the HLG lamps are brighter and produce more light per watt than Spiderfarmer lamps :))

Bro I think you are testing the wrong light this is not the SE7000 THE SE7000 Has 8 bars and is a 730 watt light you are testing a 6 bar light which I think is the SE 5000

They must of just recently released version 2 then hu? Didn't even know that. I got mine last week. I haven't set them up yet. They are put together and I check em out. Been busy lol Currently have 3 Sunraise QB4000 up. Gonna move those to veg room. SE7000 for flowering.
