The most underrated thing about Peter Parker under the influence of the symbiote suit was that he was actually able to stand up to those who gave him a hard time in the past (including his landlord, Harry, and to an extent, MJ (especially after Spider-Man 2)).

I doubt most people understand the brilliance of this scene. During the first two movies, we learn to identify with Peter and root for him, a kind-hearted spirit that just wants to do the right thing. We follow him as he learns to be a good friend, a good lover, and a ultimately a hero. He's Spider-Man. Everybody wants to be Spider-Man. After all this, what does Sam Raimi do? He makes our hero hit his girlfriend, he hits her so hard she's thrown on the floor. Look what your friendly photographer became, a violent monster consumed by hate and petty feelings. The symbionte is just a metaphor for this. Do you want to be Spider-Man, now? Do you want to be him? Or you're just disgusted? Today they could never do a film like this, sending a message of such complexity. Everyone's good at having a bright moment and becoming a hero. But it takes real guts to STAY a hero, to avoid falling. Keeping always vigilant and watchful of the forces of evil outside, yes, but most of all inside of you.

The one thing that Peter should remember about the Symbiote is that while it can give him new powers and enhance his strength it can also change his personality because that's what the Symbiote likes to do it likes to amplify the characteristics of its host and that's why when it bonded with Peter it turned him into an emo jerk who becomes aggressive with everyone he meets and when it bonded with Eddie Brock it turned him from a wisecracking photographer to a beastly monster

The icing on the cake would have been after the dance that he'd kiss Gwen in front of MJ then looked up at her lol
