Sorry for the little bits of bouncing on the focus, I was tempted to rerecord but it didn’t seem too offensive and I always feel it's super strange when I repeat things, especially when I'm as excited about all the things as I am. The silk project feels SO special and I can't wait to share the nerdy things we've been up to the past week!
With gratitude,
Katt xo

Hi Katt - I love that you give projects a further life in your wardrobe by over dying them. You have mentioned a number of times that you will/have over dyed garments/accessories. Could you please in a future video elaborate on the process you use? This would be really helpful as I would like to dye woolly items but am concerned about shrinkage/felting through heat/agitation - thanks if you can spend some time discussing this!!!

Hi! I can do my best, I treat the garments exactly the same as you would dyeing yarn. Giving it a soak with a mordant (citric acid usually) and then dye it in a bath of hot water and the chosen dyes, keeping an eye on the makers instructions. I've not had any problems with it felting yet, but that's not to say it can't happen! I'll do my best to record the process next time I do so ✨

Lovely episide, thank you. I had started a Jessie Maed vest top in a thin Swedish wool in a deep teal shade, but it just wasn't right. Frogged it and started a V-neck raglan but of course l won't have enough teal for that . . . Noticed that loads of students, and quite a few sfaff members, at one of my schools are wearing striped Breton sweaters so l went back to the shop for a light to mid grey. Once l got that into daylight it was too blue . . . So l went back in for a pinkish beige. Wish me luck!

I really enjoyed the footage of the silk cocoon processing. So much patience and intention!! Very interested to see how those lovely socks wear. I love how you knit black and seem to still have good vision but when you knit color it is very exciting and that purple and pink mohair sweater is so fun and you will look stunning in it.

Thank you it was really a nice process to experiment with and for once I found it really easy to film 😅✨ Thank you for the kind words, I'm quite excited to wear the pink and purple Cherry, hopefully I can knit on it this evening 🤭

I am working on too many things! but right this second i am mainly working on a cowl/collar type thing with zipper in a blown alpaca yarn. It is so interesting to work with. I am already now trying to find an ethical silk farm in Denmark though, your videos are always so inspiring!

Sending some love back your way. I am working on a test knit for Anna Johannes upcoming book. Didn't had any spinning time recently. Had loads of friends come to visit me here in India where i live. Including the one I went with to the British museum in London. I enjoy your nerdy sweetness. Have a great day

Sometimes I have difficulty with stitch definition. I guess it depends on the fluffiness of the yarn. Love your channel!

you are the cutest!! I am working on vanilla socks and finishing up the last sleeve on my sunset highway sweater. One question...do you have a braid of fibre hanging as a garland in the background? 👀 Also, way to go with the spinning silk...that was really cool. And thanks for sharing the process of cleaning the cocoons ... that was really awesome to watch!! ☺

You are the cutest and I absolutely can't wait to see your sunset highway! YESSSS I wondered if you might spot it, I couldn't resist showing it off even if it was fairly subtle, I am SO excited to spin it but in the mean time, it made a lovely display yesterday 🤭✨

Such a CR-heavy episode! Spinning from silk cocoons is so cool, thanks for showing the process! I'd be interested to hear about the difference between the two types you had there. It was clear they kind of broke down differently. Do you know if it is different species? Or is it to do with the environment they exist (and therefore feed) in? I'm not really working on anything much right now, but spent my time with you winding some yarn from a cone. Also, I'll be here if you need those socks test knitted ;)

Yes, so they do break down differently and I decided the Bombyx was perfect but the other needed another round of degumming, they also produce it in a way that it needs carding so I was going to wait until I have a bit more time to process it 🤭 Oh I am so glad to be in your companyyyyy (& if you would like me to send over the little recipe I've got you're most welcome to it 💚)

Hi Kat. Just found your channel. I’m just learning to spin. I have a question for you and or wanted to know if you could do a video covering taking the cocoons and blending them with other fibers and how you would go about that? I have a pound of degummed cocoons and only info I can find is to turn them into hankies then cut them for staple length. Someone else just said to pull the cocoons apart and add to your carder or hackle depending on what you use but I was told unless you cut them first they will just get stuck in your carder. Im wanting to blend with Marino right now but other fibers down the road. Any advice?
@kattweaver
@kattweaver 8 ай бұрын
Hey, I am sorry to not be of very much use, I've not done much with silk yet but I would imagine that trimming them would be the best way alternatively carding the fibre you want to spin without the silk and then adding the silk in as you spin?
