On this episode of The KingdomCore Podcast, Chris and Sean sit down with Mattie Montgomery, formerly of For Today. For those of you who don't know, Mattie planted The Altar Fellowship in Johnson City, TN after For Today came to an end. Sean made a post a number of months ago mentioning spiritual warfare and For Today, and Mattie mentioned he had some thoughts he wanted to share. So here we are, talking about spiritual warfare on The KingdomCore Podcast! Mattie talks about some of the things he wrote lyrically in For Today, as well as some of his experiences on tour and how they relate to spiritual warfare, so strap in!

Mattie Montgomery may feel a little discouraged by his past lyrics but the song devestator gave me a real sword and a real hope for the Lord “Jim cavzeal (passion of the Christ)said that these modern Christians are more afraid of the devil than than they are of God FEARLESS against evil is is how all Christians should walk in faith

I see God as a loving dad, the devil sees God as Genghis Khan.... I'm still reeling. In my continent, it feels like people are so much obsessed with power than they are with focusing their eyes on Jesus. This ... I needed this. Thank you. Mattie has been long an icon for me. I heard an interview one time from an Orthodox exorcist out of Romania. He spoke about one exorcism where at the end the demon said "Christ the conqueror" and left. So we need to be walking in that mind set like Mattie says. The age of peace as come. He has already won

Great episode. I found myself laughing like the Gandalf meme because Mattie has always been on the more woowoo side of Christianity while I found myself more focused on the visible/natural. I've since come to a more biblical understanding of the spiritual side and demons, so it's cool seeing brother Mattie approach from the distance as we close the gap in our theology.

We actually record with a site called Riverside.fm It's like a normal video call, though it records all the audio and video separately and at full quality. It also features a built in editor, though I hand edit and make sure all the audio is leveled out a bit better than what it does. 🤟

Great episode guys. If you guys read the KJV you will see the completion of the story that many translations don’t get a chance to tell. Including alcohol, being kosher, miracles, demon possession, etc. but, I agree with most everything said. Keep up the hard work guys. 🔥🙏🏻

I can see that. I think sometimes I have too. BUT I think the issue then would be that we would be putting words in Christ's mouth. And that is something that we have to be very careful about, even when it comes to artistic creativity.

Cool interview. I don't think the question was answered on Christians being demon possessed. Demon possession is a demon inhabiting someone. Repentance and renewing your mind don't imply demon possession. Neither does sinning imply demon possession. Also being manipulated by the devil doesn't necessarily imply demon possession. Here's the real question, can the Holy Spirit and a demon inhabit the same person at the same time? I think it was actually semantics to say a demon may possess an area of your life. I think it can be equally said, a demon may influence an area of your life, which would not be possession. Not trying to be rude, I did enjoy the interview. Especially the main point, which was ministry should be Christocentric and Gospel centric, not excorcism centric. The Gospel message isn't just excorcism, if a ministry is only focused on exorcism and doesn't preach Christ crucified, that's a problem.

This was great. The only thing I was really iffy on was at the end. I couldn't say either way that I believe for sure that the man with the sword was Christ "preincarnated". I don't know, and I don't think we can really say. I get the logic though, and we can say that he was an instrument of God's will. Maybe it was the Son after all. I've wondered about stuff like that, because of the Sodom and Gomorrah account. Abraham met with the Lord (as said in Gensis 18) and it is described as meeting with three men. It's an interesting subject. were three "three man" the "triune God"? Like I said, it's interesting, thought provoking.

two of the men with Abraham were the angels that went to Sodom to warn Lot to get out (and eventually had to pull him out haha). The third man was definitely "the Lord" per the Scripture. Idk if we can count that as pre-incarnate Christ, though.
