…28 days to go!
There is exciting news from Brazil, the rain has arrived in the Caatinga!
The Caatinga streams have been flowing again for the past few weeks, the annual rain season is in full swing. This is great news for the Caatinga and their wildlife. However, there are some delays in the construction of our facility, which are inevitable at this time of year. We have therefore postponed the arrival date of the first 50 Spix's macaws in the Caatinga by a few days and we are excited to say that this coincides with World Wildlife Day on the 3rd of March 2020!
In this seemingly hopeless time, overwhelmed with news about environmental crises and species extinction, on this special day we can send a blue and bright sign of hope to all countries in the world. Because our #spixsAreComingHome project will exemplify, that if we strive and everyone works together, our nature can not only be protected but also rebuilt! #conservationOptimism
In order to find out about the progress of the construction work and to confirm the new arrival date of the birds, representatives of the Brazilian government and the Mayor of Curaçá visited our facility last week. This includes the President of ICMBio: Homero De George Cerqueira, who made the time to come out and see for himself how the project was progressing, offer assistance to ensure everything runs smoothly and to finalize all the necessary permits and schedules for the big day.
Everyone was visibly excited by the progress. The government support for this project is overwhelming. Especially for this event a plane has been chartered, for the transport of the birds to Petrolina airport on the 3rd of March. The Caatinga and all its people are buzzing with excitement as we eagerly anticipate the song of the Spix’s macaw returning to the Caatinga for the first time in 20 years! We thank everyone involved for being so active in ensuring the arrival will be a great success. What a milestone for conservation!
