Another thing you didn't mention as far as The Unbreakable tie-in goes is the fact McAvoy's character's father died on the train that Bruce Willis survived. That's why Kevin laid down the bouquet of flowers at the train station. So not only did Mr. Glass create a Super Hero (Bruce Willis). But he also created a Villain (James McAvoy). The death of Kevin's mother caused him to go off the deep end.

Just watched Split tonight, and oh man was it a freaking great supervillain movie! I can't believe I just watched an origin story that is connected to a classic superhero movie way back in the 2000s, the ending just totally blew my mind and made me said "Holy Shit" over and over again. There's possibility that Shyamalan gonna rival the MCU and DCU with his own cinematic universe, aka SCU, lol.

He was entertaining but I thought it was the worst personality just because how inconsistent he was, I'd use Hedwig alone as evidence that this split personality people are fake, he's like the idea of what a kid is for Shyamalan, sometimes he sounds like a 4 year old sometimes like a teen sometimes like a psycopath and he's supposed to be 9 he's all over the place in my opinion.

Who noticed the Kanye shout out? I don't think it is a coincidence. In Kanyes first hit song (as a rapper) in 2003 "through the wire" he has a verse "unbreakable, what you thought, they'd call me Mr.Glass" and that was M. Nights way of returning the favor 14 years later.

Yes! The great thing about the plot twist in Split is that its layered. The first one hits you when he starts becoming the beast. The twist there is that his fractured personality created a real manifestation of his madness. The second twist occurs at the very end with the Bruce Willis cameo. It's all taken place in the Unbreakable universe, and the entire movie was an origin story for a super villain. And the third twist, at least for me, was on the car ride home. I realized that "Horde" is the perfect foil to Bruce Willis's character, David Dunn. He believes that the broken people in life are the pure ones. They see things differently because they've had difficulty in their lives. That is, after all, why he lets Casey go. He sees that she's been broken. Well, I would venture to guess Horde is not going to take to kindly to a person who is impervious to damage. The entire film sets him up to be diametrically opposed to Dunn. Brilliant. M Night has redeemed himself in my book. I'm on board.

Wendell Crumb is both though. He’s broken because of the abuse he went through in his childhood but when he’s in beast mode he’s unbreakable, I mean the shot guns did go through. Now imagine two unbreakable people (David Dunn and The Beast) fighting each other. I can’t wait to see that.

Maybe in a future movie there will be a Shyamalan double twist and Kevin is really a clone of Professor X but his telepathy skills got him fd up and he developed another mutation that is the beast personality. Or something insane like that. A crossover between the X-men universe and Shyamalan's Unbreakable/Split universe, now that is a twist I wanna see. xDD

@BeastSlayer14
@BeastSlayer14 7 жыл бұрын
goutham edara Wikipedia A plot twist is a radical change in the expected direction or outcome of the plot of a novel, film, television series, comic, video game, or other work of narrative.[1] It is a common practice in narration used to keep the interest of an audience, usually surprising them with a revelation. Some "twists" are foreshadowed. When a plot twist happens near the end of a story, especially if it changes one's view of the preceding events, it is known as a surprise ending.[2] Sometimes people use a plot twist to describe a sudden change of a situation in real life. It is often assumed that revealing the existence of a plot twist spoils a film or book, since the majority of the film/book generally builds up to the plot twist; however, at least one study suggests otherwise.[3] It's a twist but since it's at the end I guess you can call it a surprise ending too. Feels like the same thing to me.

@Illusion I think you mixed them up with hyenas there. The problem with the ending of SPLIT is that it assumes you've seen UNBREAKABLE. I went to see SPLIT with a group of four friends and every one of us said "huh?" at the end. Shyamalan made a mistake by including a twist that only makes sense to M Night fans.

Amber Verberne Amazing haha 😀. I already got the ending spoiled, because I didn't really want to see Split. I actually didn't like the idea of having a character with 23-24 different personalities in one movie. I thought that was too much, and would just be too much to keep up with, and would be too confusing, but when I decided to see the movie, I'm glad that they chose to show mainly 5 of those personalities, so you get an idea of how crazy this guy is, but you're not over stacked with too many personalites. But, I decided to give the movie a chance after I got the ending spoiled!! Grr. 😠But without that spoiler I wouldn't have known that Split and Unbreakable were set in the same universe. Anyways, I saw the ending first online, and it completely blew my mind. And I knew that I had to see Split. I actually wish I didn't get it spoiled, and got dragged to see Split by someone who actually wanted to see it, because I would have loved to get a bigger reaction out of myself seeing that pan out on the big screen, without it being spoiled first, and then I would have also loved to see the theater's reactions, and see so many people freaking out, and seeing the people they were with, who haven't seen Unbreakable be so confused.

Chris, I think Shyamalan is borrowing from eastern philosophy/spirituality. IE all the ancient stories about men that trained their minds/bodies to the point of being superhuman, Journey to the West(dragonball's roots), Bodidharma(the creator of the first fighting system, martial art), etcetera. Even contemporary Bhuddist monks study for decades to change their physiology through meditation. It is(in my opinion) a fun, interesting and rewarding topic to research. I hope you got something form my ramblings, whomever may read this!

I'm kind of disappointed with this spoiler review, because it mainly focuses on the twist, which is fine, but I would have wanted a longer video that delve more into the actual movie itself, rather than gushing over the amazing twist. I would have wanted to hear more about Casey and just how the movie plays out from Chris's perspective. please make an analysis video, I'm interested in learning more about this film than what I already learn, I just can't really do that with this video. I'm trying not to sound mad, I'm not, but I just see this review as a mischance to talk about the film in better depth. Alas, I loved this movie, and I can't wait for what M. Jeffrey Kaufmann he went through abuse himself under his mother and because of this he developed the 24 personalities to cope with trauma of being abused.Out of this one of the personalities (the "beast" ) believes because of the abuse he is stronger than the rest of the humans and he believes because he is broken he is pure the rest who are not broken are impure.He also belives that the impure should be purged.The girl had undergone sexual abuse under her uncle and is broken and so in his eyes she is pure so he lets her go.

People keep using the word "twist" for this movie. There was no twist. The Beast showing up wasn't a twist. They told us it would come ever since he was first mentioned. Not a twist. The end scene with Bruce Willis---not a twist. A clever reveal, perhaps, but not a twist. The ending of The Sixth Sense was a twist, sure. And ever since then everyone makes a big deal about the Shyamalan twists, like it's his "thing" and so you look for a twist. Anyway, not a big deal. Just kinda got on my nerves how Chris kept calling everything a twist. Bleh.

Calling the end of Split a twist is like calling the post credits scene of Iron Man a twist just because Nick Fury shows up to sets up the Avengers. An impactful ending is different than a proper plot twist. People get confused because the shocking value is pretty much the same, sometimes even bigger, but the story itself doesn't take another path. You might argue that Split turns into a different movie, but it doesn't, since the story we watched before doesn't change, it remains the same linear thing.
@LegendaryManSlayer93
@LegendaryManSlayer93 7 жыл бұрын
Junior Rossoni all the nick fury post credit scenes are bonus scenes. They don't add to the movies' endings. You won't be missing anything if you skip them. However, splits final scene is instrumental to the plot. If that scene didn't exist, this would've just been an original thriller (like it was marketed as).

Side note, I think Kevin's power is an ability to adapt. Dennis came after he began suffering abuse from his mother, and the beast came after he surrounded himself with animals. Maybe Patricia is supposed to serve as a mother he never had, and Henry is supposed to help him live out a real childhood. It's a cool concept for a super villain, and a great way to keep the (semi)realism of Unbreakable in tact.

I've been watching reviews after seeing the movie earlier tonight. I've actually been looking to see if anyone touched on the controversy (many people boycotted the film and signed a petition over the "demonizing" portrayal of mental illness). But this is the best review I've seen yet. Well done! Furthermore, I don't think the controversy is fair because none of those people have actually seen the film. It would give things away, but I'll just say the mental illness is handled rather delicately and, in fact, almost presented as a positive. I suppose it's a shame that the trailer can make people afraid of others who suffer from DID, but this is hardly the first movie to portray multiple personalities "negatively" (Psycho, Fight Club, etc)

I admit that when they started emphasising the possible superbatural abilities of DID sufferers and MacAvoy's character was talking about the next step in evolution that the movie felt like it was stretching itself a bit too far, but that was when I was still chasing the 'Shyamalan twist' in my head and wondered if the beast would be real or not. I still feel like that concept and language is a bit of an odd turn in a movie that is up until those points more real and grounded in a sense. Though when the Skype conference introduced those concepts and it looked like the beast would be real then I felt like a Bruce Willis cameo at the end would be a great opportunity (still didn't know they'd actually do it) and was waiting on tenderhooks for the last third of the movie. I also felt that the main girl's escape kinda dragged on for a bit in the middle. But overall a really great film.

I hated that aspect & that character in general, she survived for basically being a victim while the characters that wanted to work as a team to fight died. Hey NerdySabbath, I don't know if you know this but there are rape victims who have survived by being submissive, when a rapist is unaware of the crime they're doing then crying is a better option than fighting, since they'll beat you up because they think "you like it rough". The reason why the two girls didn't survive is due to their emotions and ego getting the better of them. You can survive rape, but you can't survive other things. The beauty of Casey is that she is presented with a choice at the end. She can live her life as a victim or a survivor. Her uncle was the last boss of her life, not the beast. And in reality there are survivors who have had uncles like that, people who you can't just murder and get a happy ending through some Hollywood style ending like empowerment fantasy.

Im not sure what your rape comparison has to do with my gripes with Casey as a poorly written protagonist, but okay lol. I "get" what the movie was doing, I just fount the execution shit. The two other girls didn't survive because the plot demanded it, & Casey survived through mere anti climatic circumstance. After watching "You're Next", Casey was just a painful protagonist to be with

This movie is every-freaking-thing! I went to the movies last week to watch it, and it totally blew me away. The second I left the theatre I wanted to get back in and watch it all over again. And as the days goes by, and the more I think of it - I definitely need to watch it again! It's been a VERY long time since I've watched a movie, that is so captivating, disturbing, funny and sad at the same time. Brilliant script, brilliant storytelling and brilliant acting. James McAvoy KILLED it!!! I can't remember the last time I've seen such amazing acting on the big screen. I just couldn't take my eyes off of him. He made me laugh, cry and totally terrified. He took us on the one hell of a ride and oh my gosh! He deserves all the awards there is for this! I love how when ever there was something about the movie, that I didn't buy, there came an acceptable explanation that made sense. Even the supernatural part of the movie made SO much sense. I get goosebumps from head to toe, just to think of this film. I can't get enough of this, so I'm going to see it again next week! :D ... And, I actually think this is the kind of movie that gets better, the second time you watch it. I think you'll notice more details than you did the first time... Can't wait to see what's next for M. Night Shaymalan in this Unbreakable/Split universe! BRAVO!!!

What I found really cool about this twist, was the buildup to it. The little tidbits like the rock climbing. When you actually see him climbing the wall, I actually looked closely at it, and it was pretty porous, and I thought "Ok well, I know real humans can climb stuff with smaller handholds than that, I mean I can SEE the texture variation, so that's fairly possible I think." And then later when she shoots him with the shotgun she found IN A ZOO. And I remembered thinking "Ok, so maybe it's rock salt, because they don't want to kill the animals, but they might have to scare them away from time to time. Rock salt would hurt like hell, abrade the skin, but wouldn't be fatal, so maybe that will be the twist. The camera will pan back to the locker and show the label for the type of shot used." And even after when he's bending the bars, I thought "Ok well, James got really buff for this roll, and that facility is pretty run down. The metal bars could be fairly flawed, and he doesn't actually bend them that much. Just a few inches. There are strong men alive that can do that kind of thing with various grades of metal. So maybe this is going down the Plausible route" And then that music kicked in, and I realized what I was seeing, and I stopped caring about seeing if it was a trick or reality, and was just happy as hell. xD

I re-watched Unbreakable and I caught something very interesting that Mr. Glass's mom said to Bruce Willis's character about what her son said about heroes and villains (which also ties to the next movie) "There's always two kinds. The soldier villain (The Horde) who fights the hero with his hands, and then there's the real threat. The brilliant and evil arch enemy who fights the hero with his mind (Mr. Glass)."

Hopefully this movie doesn't blow up Shyamalan's ego. It'd suck if after this great movie he went back to making pretentious shlock

Sooo good. Like Chris said, even without the tie-in at the end, I found this movie to really stand on its own. It explored DID (dissociative identity disorder) with respect. Kevin was a really sympathetic character, and I actually felt so bad about what he must have gone through to have become the way he did that I was shaking with tears. One of my new fave movies.

Hey Chris you always talk about how trailers aren't done well and about how they kill some good movies like The Village, how about you do a video about how trailers are meant to be done or The Problem With Marketing Movies Today. Just a thought

So I finally watched Split, I somehow managed to not get spoilered, and I freakin loved it. The kinda supernatural aspects of it turned me off for a bit but after I saw that scene it all made sense. McAvoy killed it. And that moment when I saw Bruce Willis sitting there in that diner I seriously got goosebumps. I hope we get a sequel to Unbreakable, it`s one of my favorite movies ever and I always thought it would make a great start for a series.
