VultureClone I didn't even know what he was capable of until I saw this movie. He's unbelievable. Only one other actor I can think of that could even pull this kind of performance off.

As a previous psychology student, I actually disagree about the skype/auditorium scene being cut. I thought it was extremely necessary. DID is a HUGE controversy within the psychological science. It's important for the audience to question it and be presented with some of the evidence behind it, in order to fully develop the main character. Is this real or is the host consciously flipping between extreme behaviors just to manipulate a given situation..?

Yeah, announce that you're a psychology student to give yourself some bullshit credibility. A clockwork orange had complex themes and effed up characters, but there was no exposition scene and that lack of exposition made it one of the greatest movies of all time. Same goes for stuff like 2001 a space odyssey. I'm not saying exposition is inherently bad( excellent in the last scene of psycho). I'm just saying you're wrong.

I definitely didn't feel the same way, but mostly because of the way the psychologist presents DID during the Skype scene. It was very Hollywood and unrealistic. I personally thought the movie would have been better off without a ridiculous, pretentious talk about whether DID can, and I quote, "unlock the full potential of the human brain". Btw, this doesn't matter at all but I am a psychology student myself. So yeah, personal preferences are different indeed. Have a good day, Sarah! :) ...assuming you read this one year later.

Great review Chris. But I think that it's arguable that the entire issue of the movie was inadvertently caused by Dr. Fletcher and her ideas enabling the outcasted personalities to gain a foothold. So, I think that the Skype scene was very necessary to set up the cause of the main problem of the movie.

shytguy Alright. It's more of a mind-blowing reveal than a twist. *SPOILER! BIG spoiler.* lol You didn't hear this from me, but the last scene of the movie is set in a diner, with people watching the news about McAvoy's character. Two women talk about how it reminds them of something else from years ago. Then Bruce Willis' character from Unbreakable appears and lets them know that they're thinking of Mr. Glass. Movie ends. Unbelievable. Incredible. Fantastic. Amazing. I've seen a lot of movies, and I mean a LOT. But I've never had the reaction I had when that happened. I literally shouted out loud, "NO WAY! THAT'S NOT...IT CAN'T....WHAT THE FLIP?!" Freaking blew my mind man.

My guilty film admission is that I unironically love m. Night shyamalan. It's true that after Earth, the last airbender and the happening are really bad movies, but every other movie he's made have either been pretty fun or legitimately great. I feel like the shyamalan hate has gotten out of hand, hating him has become a meme, and most critics want to just be in on the meme and treat his movies more harshly than they should, simply because shyamalan made it. I don't care what anyone says, I like the visit, lady in the water, the 6th sense, Unbreakable, signs and the village. And i can't wait to see split.

Sharky McShark I agree that unbreakable was more overlooked than underrated. I think that Signs was presented (as usually in every Shyamalan movie) as a horror movie, so maybe people got dissappointed by finding another kind of film.

Because after I've seen something I want to discuss it and see if there's anything I may have missed or to get answers if I'm a little confused about an ending or something like that. And I really like how you go in depth about the meaning of some movies and things that people may have missed or don't understand. This is probably my favourite movie type of channel on KZfaq.

Just subbed. Been checking your vids for a while now and it seems you really grasp what makes good movies tick. You're right about how many movies and trailers insult the intelligence of the viewing audience. Hollywood thinks we are dumb sheep, and some are...but good movies "trust" the audience, as you put it. Thanks!

Finally someone reviews a movie without spoiling it! Loved your video, and your review has definitely encouraged me to go see the film. I was really interested in seeing it because I was taking an AP Psychology class and learned about multiple personality disorder, but I do have a question: would you say this is more thriller or more scary? I have a friend who also wanted to see it but is deathly afraid of horror movies, so before we saw it I wanted to know how you felt the thriller level was. Thanks!

I have to admit, Anya Taylor-Joy in THE VVITCH had me, at times, thinking if I really was getting a little turned on by a 15 year old (or however old her character was in the film) girl. Then there is the scene with her bum and I was seriously questioning my humanity. Immediately grabbed my phone to check her age and was so relieved to find that she was 20.

ArgoX2007 Agreed, I love The Village so much. I think it's M.Night's best, and way better than his those overrated garbages like Sign & Sixth Sense. But I understand why a lot of people didn't love The Village as much as I do, because of the twist. So many people expected it to be like supernatural answer to the story, and what they saw is simple and too nice. I thought that ending was make sense to the whole story, and very good pay-off why the elderly don't want to be a part of society anymore. To be fair, The Village is my favorite, as much as Sign meant to Stuckmann. I gave it an A+.

It might have been the twist, but personally I think it wasn't well liked because of it being marketed as a straight up horror, when it was much more of a love story. I really didn't like it the first time I watched it, but since then I keep in mind what type of movie it really is and enjoy it far more.

I think Shamylan will be considered a great filmmaker in hindsight. There are plenty of greats who fell into a slump for a few years and made terrible films. Woody Allen has plenty of shitty movies, but what do we remember and love him for? Manhattan. Annie Hall. Mighty Aphrodite. John Carpenter has shit like Escape From L.A. under his belt, but we only think of Halloween and Big Trouble in Little China and The Thing when his name comes up. People will remember M Night Shamylan for Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense, Signs, and, I suppose, Split.
