I have some gigantic rounds of wood that need split. Some are so big, I can't move them. But I need to split these into firewood. So let's see what it takes.

@@samlikely3201 Check out Dr Axe and Dr Berry ... they say, stay away from all carbs and you will beat diabetes. My situation is lower back ... carrying heavy guitar amps for way too many years. People who work as hard as Evan and Rebekah might want to think about a Teeter inversion table 3-4 times a week as a precaution.

My friend will quartr a peace with the saw. He will move it and lift for spliting. 50 and 60 inch is normal for him. He is only 80 years old but his wife will help with the bigger ones, she is only 70. Its alot of work.

You did a great job to keep your cool and not quit after that slip. If I had busted my chin like that I would have exploded, thrown a piece of wood at the camera, chucked the tripod into the woods, and then set fire to the goat pen.

He's not going to burn it until it dries (next year). So he should have left it for the goats to play on and eat the bark off. When it's dry, it's easier to move. I have to do this in order to move them.

I like that you share your candid thoughts when you’ve realized that there might have been a better way to tackle the task. I’m all for stubborn determination, but with age, I have learned that safety has to be a higher priority than my stubbornness. Too many injuries have added up over time. Take care of yourself. Thanks for the videos.

It helps if you can hit the same spot twice!!😄. My grandfather taught me to split wood with a single blade axe. He called me "Lightening" saying I never hit the same place twice!! Definitely. You're working against the entire weight of the piece doing it this way- it's like trying to eat a 1 pound burger by stuffing the whole thing in your mouth at once! Especially when trying to split by hand, you have to work smarter, not harder.

One tip I can give is to try to handle the wood as few times as possible. so for example. when you have split the wood on the wood splitter. do not lay the wood on the ground, place it on a cart or in the bucket on the tractor. so you do not have to pick up the wood later. thanks for a very nice and inspiring channel.

Attack at the weak spots. You have several splits in the wood. split them wider. Work from the outside in. Once you widen them you can cut slabs off the sides along the splits. Even with your hydraulic splitter use the natural splits in the wood.

Those butt ends are a beast. I some times just let them rot. Maple is always easier to work green than dry. One suggestion I would try would be try splitting those large but tends from the outside in vice down the middle. If it doesn’t have knots this usually will work. Makes you think about the days gone bye: (tough men back then) and will give you some awesome cramps at night. Good job.

Almost painful to watch because I just went through the same thing last year on several trees. Same process until I got the chainsaw out and made it easy on myself. One day I would get it to a size I could lift and then finish splitting the next day. I thought the next day would go faster but each one of those "manageable pieces" is another 4 splits on the splitter. that adds up exponentially. To all those who buy your wood and think your wood guy is too expensive... Watch this video!!! It is insulting to ask for a discount.

That maple tree could have been a super awesome piece for your log cabin, I actually make table tops out of large maple tree bases as I have a Alaskan sawmill. If you make cookie cuts with the wood chunks they make unique table tops. I'm currently working on 12 smaller ones for end tables which can be used indoors or outside as they are also poly coated. FYI - if you think it wasn't worth it for some reason those are the ones you want for the table tops because they add unique character to the whole concept.

I remember the winter I turned 14, I grew big enough and learned how to split wood. We would burn at least 4 cord a winter. So I went at it, with a sledgehammer, a maul, and several wedges. One wedge was not enough. Following October or so some neighborhood guys my age came over. And I was better than all of them. First time ever and that was awesome.

Soft maple/ silver maple does make for some gorgeous tables/ wood projects. When i was in highschool 35-36 yrs ago i made a coffee table out of silver maple and my neighbor seen it and wanted one also. So i made her one and she still has it to this day. She's been offered up to $1500.00 for it. But we had a agreement when i built it for her that when she passes on the coffee table comes back to me.

When I do something like that, my wife calls me hard-headed, foolhardy or some other terms I won't repeat here. I will just say that you are one determined individual. The joy and satisfaction of getting something like that done is so satisfying, it's worth every calorie burned. It's not about the wood, the axes or the splitter. It's about a man (or woman), setting a goal and completing it. Well done.

I just worked up a huge pin oak. Had to buy a 24 inch chainsaw. I ended up having and quartering some rounds. I used the chainsaw to start a line and then wedged two on the same side. Two wedges on the same side prevents what happened to you in most cases. I have a third, wider wedge I use for finishing a split. Sometimes I get all three stuck and need the chainsaw. The 24 inch Husqvarna saved me on this one. LMAO
