Typically, you're told all the reasons why having string consistency is important, why you shouldn't mix strings and all the rest. So why would you want to split your string? Here are 3 scenarios where I show you doing exactly that, is perfectly ok!

genius! Mixing your own multi colored strands is brilliant!

As an embroiderer, the way the floss is meant to be separated is to lightly pinch about a thumb's width from the end and pull one strand at a time up from the group. It looks like it will become a crazy knot, but all the twists will calm down once the pulled strand is fully pulled out. As a bracelet maker, i always pull my strings even if I intend to use all 6, cuz it stops the slight twist in the strand from making backhand knots that awkward bit thicker than the forward ones.

Ooooh, I like the heathered look! Will definitely be trying that out in an upcoming project!. I was a little surprised that one of the considerations was if you simply wanted a thinner product. I look at some patterns and they're significantly wider than I would be comfortable wearing. I would think that splitting the threads would give you a smaller end product, though I suppose there's an increased likelihood of snapping the string that you would have to factor in. Thanks for the video. Thought provoking!

You could definitely try it! I would expect knots to be harder to untie and string a little easier to snap but it could definitely work!

Also, since the knots are smaller, you have to make more knots to achieve the same length as you normally would :) just a tip from someone who has made bracelets with splitted string :3

I do like the way it looks, as you said, for wider bracelets :) you can use thinner threads to make the bracelet look thinner. It just takes a little longer to make^^ but it also looks very neat in the end :)

I've tried this before with alpha bracelets and it's adorable! I prefer thinner bracelets and alphas always end up so chunky! I separated my string (DMC brand) into 2 strings 3-ply each. I hard to careful to not snap the string but that was it :)

You look great! Love your videos! Lol I feel silly like I knew I could split the strings, but it never occurred to me that I could combine colors haha 😅🤣

I AM 6 MINUTES EARLY!!!!!! Thank you for all the long videos you make. They help so much. Everyone makes tutorials that are like 10 minutes, but you do the whole thing. So thank you so much!!! So helpful!! And thanks for the info on the difference of the strings, i have mixed different thickness and brands and it has not ended nice. So thanks for putting that out.

I’m so happy you find them useful! I know the long form content isn’t for everyone but I noticed it was something our community didn’t have a tonne of. It always makes me so happy to hear people actually find it helpful. ☺️ thank you so much for your comment 💚

@@MegMakesCrafts Exactly! Not much people talk about it and some people like me who just started using Dmc and Loop & Thread (aka good quality threads) and have low quality ones may not know that it most likely won't work out.

I keep the string between my thighs as I'm pulling the strands apart, works like a charm xD I love the aliexpress thread but it's a tad too thick to work with dmc or my local cotton embroidery floss brand, I definitely should try removing one strand of the aliexpress thread and see how they work together

I am so glad you uploaded! I was waiting lol! And it's crazy because I just made a bracelet where I split the strings so that I could have more than one color in each string! I split some blue and pink and mixed each string with half blue and half pink, and then I used black for the other color in the bracelet. It was a pain in the butt lol but I just made that bracelet a couple days ago and it turned out very cute! I swear, it seems like you and me are on the same brain waves lol! We definitely think a lot alike!
