Rexlace is so cheaply made now…it’s plastic-y and thick and very hard to manipulate with certain designs…like this one apparently. For me, anyway. All the strings are just pulling on top of one another and making like a triple box stitch. Even when I try to keep them separated. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but..I’m pretty sure I’m not.

hi, where you can buy the string?

I’ve found it at craft stores (Michael’s) and department stores (Walmart, Stedman’s, and Zellers back in the day) as well as the dollar store (dollarama). I suspect other similar stores would have it too- usually in the kids craft section.

I arrived to your video because somebody wrote "segment knotting method" in a group and I was interested. I knot since I'm 10 years old and I hoped for learning a new method. But now I realized this is what I always do. I was curious what is the other way, the "not-segment-knotting", and this is the first time I see that method. I can't imagine anyone would knot like that. For me it looks slower and more difficult to follow.
@MegMakesCrafts
@MegMakesCrafts Ай бұрын
Many people have started with segmented knotting and didn’t know there was a name for it (myself included). The other method, I found to be more useful when I started learning how to read larger patterns. Once I got a grasp on that I was back to segment knotting because it’s definitely slower! Haha!

Also…I thought this was boondoggle lol. Can you do this with boondoggle? Stupid question I’m sure.
@MegMakesCrafts
@MegMakesCrafts Ай бұрын
Technically you could but boondoggle doesn’t hold knots very tight and it’s very difficult to not twist the string as it’s very noticeable in the knots. It could work but it wouldn’t be the ideal string for the project!

Megan, about how long is the main section of your bracelet before you start braiding the ties? I know it will probably be shorter than 7". Just trying to judge how long to make my main design.

I think most people go for about 6in of knotted pattern, however, I don’t actually measure I just hold it against my wrist.

Unfortunately, with this pattern multiple colours doesn’t really translate. I love to show people crafts but I just can’t bring myself to spend a few hours on a project, not to mention use up supplies on it to be thrown in the garbage. 😕

So I have pulled out all my lace from 25 years ago - I know! - and it is now sticky. Is it lost or can those spools be saved?
@MegMakesCrafts
@MegMakesCrafts Ай бұрын
Hmmm depends I think. If you were to unspool the first layer or two is it still sticky underneath? If no, that would indicate to me that it’s probably grease or dust or something built up that could be washed off. If yes however, it might be the actual plastic starting to degrade and I don’t think anything could be done about that unfortunately.

Found my old rexlace from probably over 20 years ago when I was a kid and was looking for something to try to make that wasn’t a boring corkscrew. I made a couple mistakes with twisted strands but after than I finished off no problem! Thanks for the tutorial.

You won’t get the horizontal striping effect that makes this a zebra stitch. You’ll still be creating a stitch but it won’t look the same it will be a standard tornado stitch.

In the 90s I deconstructed a bracelet I bought in Mexico to teach myself how to make them (pre-youtube haha). It was the X and diamond pattern with more than 2 colors. It didnt carry any string, like you mentioned so now, these many years later I'm reconnecting with my childhood "talent" and am surprised to see a different method. This video is exactly what I needed to catch up after all these years! Talk about ancient, I got ya beat lol.

This stitch really takes the cake. I wanted to try a new one since i am pretty used to doing the tornado/zig-zag/wave stitches, and the zebra stitch which to me is just a little bit trickier.. BUT THIS ONE, is by far the most difficult one i've tried for some reason. I've had to undo it so many times just to get it right. Things get twisted so easily if you're not careful.😢 But i'm going to keep going. I make these because they help with my anxiety, and make good gifts to friends. 😎👍

You have a beautiful voice, and I love the Mulan reference :) Thank you for this video! I've been doing regular and alpha bracelets for a while but the last pack of floss I bought had a couple front and back printed kumihimo disks, but absolutely zero instructions. Or even the name "kumihimo" lol. Good thing Pinterest is all knowing and showed me one so I could look it up! Thank you for the step by step process and the odd number of strings trick! I'll have to keep it in mind for the next one I do! Funny note, I got cocky once I got it going, and quite literally right as you were talking about if you find a 3 and 1 string, I discovered I'd done something wrong and had to backtrack 😅

I have been knitting for many years & yet I've never seen someone cast on like this before! 😱 It looks SO much easier than the long tail cast on I've been using. No more measuring how much of a tail I need to make it across the cast on row? Sign me up! It looks so neat too. I'm looking to make a house scarf & definitely plan on trying this new method to start my project. I also want to try knitting in the round so I won't have to sew the long seam along the edge like in the pattern I have. (essentially my scarf will be a long tube with only stockinette stitch showing on the outside so I'll only have to close the ends & add tassels. I got sorted into Griffindor but have friends in Slytherin & Ravenclaw. So I'll most likely wind up making many house scarves! 😇🥰 Edited to add, when I change colors, I tie the 2 little ends in a bow. It holds the ends from pulling or slipping to keep tension for me & also allows for enough yarn length to weave in those ends after a couple of rows. I generally weave ends in as I go because it can feel overwhelming to have chaos spaghetti at the end of a project I've already worked a long time on.

It’s a very odd colour and I don’t use it a lot. I think if it had a tiny bit more pink in its undertones it would 100% be copper and I think if it were lighter and a tiny bit more yellow it would err toward gold. 🤷🏻‍♀️ in my head I just call it baby poop 😂😂😂 🙈

In rexlace most patterns have a squared version and a spiral version, they're folded the same way except the spiral is created by folding the strings on angles instead of straight back and forth. I expect you folded straight back and forth instead of on that slight diagonal!
