Whenever I'm mixing brands, I cut like 3-4 base strings, usually scraps, and make a few knots on them with the strings I'm going to be using...it gives an idea if the strings are compatible with each other and then I make the adjustments of removing strands and things like that if needed... Doing this really helps and saves so much time and effort for the actual project, I really recommend it 💞

Oh that pesky metallic thread! I have a love-hate relationship with it 😅. I totally agree with you - snip out 2 threads of the metallic if you are a "tight knitter". For me I only snip out 1 because I purposely knot looser so my knots stay more round and "true" to the pattern. I've actually just used some metallic thread from the sewing section (it comes in many colors) and I've added it to the embroidery floss. So I'll add 2 lengths of sewing thread and take out 1 of the 6 of the embroidery strands. (But if you knot tightly you might not need to take out any of the embroidery ones). Currently working on a massive Disney princess panel. Considered making a giant knotted bracelet type but will probably cross-stitch it then sew it to fabric and make a pencil case 😊.
