In this video I remove the engine crankcase from the frame of a 1974 Yamaha DT250 and work to split the case for crankshaft inspection.

Good job Chris, lots of used parts out there for these engines, that's the good part. Nice to see the Yamaha in your shop.

Yeah, never beat the crankshaft out Always use a crank shaft tool. You're gonna need another tool to install the crank shaft .(Tusk)crank puller Installer. I paid like fifty dollars for mine. I'm new to your channel I restore 1968-76 yamaha enduros Restored over 60 to 70 bikes in the last year 10 years and split many casings. Some of my bikes have been on display at new england Motorcycle museum kaplan cycles.

Good job brother. I told you it’s not that bad to split one. Good luck on finding the parts.

just discovered this build ,,, and will come along for the ride ,, the watter in the gearbox wouldnt have got in through the left crank seal, that would only have filled the crank up its seperated from the oil side , by the right hand seal , and so im goint to take a guess at this just being condensation from the bike lying unused , or even ingress down the tach drive ....as you have now discovered these vertically split engines are very straight forward to work on. now that you are in this far can i suggest changing gearbox bearings and seals as well as main crank bearings , its no big expense and worth doing just for the peace of mind. looking forward to updates . here in newcastle england .
