This video should truly help you be more comfortable and hopefully give you some confidence in using spoons. They are defiantly a lure that can be overlooked but if you put the time in with them and follow some of these simple but useful tips, you will be successful.

Spoons are awesome! I’ve been using them for over 20 years. The half ounce silver minnow Johnson gold spoon set up with a split ring and a swivel as you have on this video works perfectly well. I encourage everyone to give it a try. Thanks Captain!

I totally agree about spoons and redfish. I've caught plenty of reds on a Johnson weedless gold spoon, almost as many sea trout also with a occasional snook. I usually carry 3-4 rod setups and you can bet 1 of those has a gold spoon on it. 👍 Thanks for the informative video.😎

I'm sold on Aqua Dream spoons, caught a pile of reds on them in the last couple of years. I have the ultimate confidence that if a red sees them, he will bite.

Really like my Aqua Dream spoon, but I'm new to the dual weed guard. Whats the best way to position them to block as much as possible?

Gold spoon/Johnson Sprite was my first Saltwater lure. Stood in blissful ignorance 50 years ago at the Skyway sandbar. Waded out to the nearest sand hole with a Zebco 33 tied to the Sprite, threw across it, got a "hit". The fish took off like a shot, pulling my rod tip down till my rod was straight and my line popped before I could react. I sped up to Oneil's Marina bought 3 more Sprites, drove back, adjusted my drag, cast across the sand hole, and proceeded to catch 5 nice slot reds (there was no slot then, nor limit) and i have been a spoon man ever since. The sprite and the Salty Dog in watermelon green only, by Bagley, were my only go to lures for years. I much preferred the action of the Sprite to the Silver Minnow. Using a lift and fall jigging method that thing twisted and flashed in every direction. And it caught everything. Trout , snook -- it was MY snook lure for 20 years -- reds, flounder. A half inch of squid trailer would turn the flounder ON. But I know what you mean about lures that don't work for you. I carried a tackle box drawer full of Mirolures for years. I would throw one for a few minutes without a bite in water I knew to be fishy, and my confidence just wasn't there for it, and i'd have to switch to the Sprite or the Salty Dog. One seemed to work when the other didn't. Then one day I read a magazine article by a guy in Louisiana that threw a 52MR 18 on a long rod in four to six ft of water, let it sink then pulled it in long fast sweeps toward the surface, letting it flutter to the bottom. I used the technique in the deeper water between the oyster mounds in Bishops Harbor and proceeded to catch the biggest and mostest trout i'd ever caught, and I've repeated it many times since. Oddly enough tho, this Mirodine that some say has taken the place of the spoon, has not produced for me. And...the single hook Silver Minnow never did either. I guess i'm a slow learner. I still throw the Sprite, and/or a white body red spade tail plastic jig that spirals come hither on the drop.

Great informative video CA. How do I pick a promising flat to fish on? With endless mangrove options around every corner in Southwest Florida, what signs of life do you look for before you decide to drift a flat for a flats monster?

Could you comment/advise on weight selection? Seems like most available for aqua dream spoons is 1/4 or 3/8oz. What would you recommend? Thanks CA!
