In this video I will show you each step in the process to grow lions mane mushrooms in bulk. This mushroom is amazing as a meat replacement and for healthy living.
Lion’s Mane is believed to be able to prevent the neuronal damage from amyloid-beta plaques, which accumulate in the brain during Alzheimer’s disease and reduces the symptoms of memory loss. We believe that now more than ever we need to be conscious of our health and boost the immune system that is responsible to protect us from viruses, bacteria and other disease-causing pathogens. I hope this video is helpful in teaching you how to grow your own!

I just inject (marking where I'm going to inject with a sharpie beforehand) and then cover the hole with a drop of hot glue that I've already heated up. It's way stronger than silicone and because it's super hot it sticks to the bag.

Its kidna funny i see how proper this is when i myself, went to central merket, bought lions maine, cut off some of the mycelium substrat attached to them, stuck it in a container of "high-quality" plantings soil from Walmart, coverd it with a plastic bag that was also from walmart, and am now growing nice sized mushrooms under my bed and after 2-3 yealds i just cut up the mycelium bock into 4 other containers with fresh "high-quality" dirt and repeat the process lol but hey i still love watching the grow process from these videos

@SporenSprout that's what I was thinking too but I wouldn't say what I'm using is 100% soil it's more like a 60-40% ratio of soil and lots of wood/multch but it seems to be working perfectly :D and the temperature underneath my bed is around 3°/5° below room temperature I'd say, I already have 3 bundles growing that I started around a week before Thanksgiving and they're coming along quite well :)

After adding spawn to substrate it will take about 1 month until fruiting and then 7-14 days till first harvest. It will grow back a few more times over the course of 1-2 months and eventually run out of moisture and energy.

Hey man, great vid, really informative! I had a few questions if you wouldnt mind 🙂. In the final stage when you have mixed all the spawn with the substrate you say to let it colonize for a further two weeks then you say to watch for pinning etc. I wanted to know during those 2 weeks if they are supposed to be in any indirect daylight (Or synthetic daylight) and if so is there a set number of hours to mimic its natural cycle or anything? I assume warm/room temp is needed again temp wise as well. Thanks!

What does the pre-mordial growth look like?

It’s rye berries from grain and feed store. I sprayed alcohol on my gloves and wiped bags and injection ports with it. Yes I put 3 quarts of water in pressure cooker. The grain adds nutrition, and provides many inoculation points as a carrier for the mycelium. The mycelium can have a hard time colonizing fast without grain. It is possible to do but will result in smaller fruit bodies and yield.

Humidity controller set at 85% humidity and exhaust fan set to run for 5 minutes every hour and an in-line fan to bring fresh air in every hour as well. 70 F temp is good. Don’t want to breath in spores so that’s why you have to exhaust the tent outside a window. Wear a mask if you enter the tent while it’s dropping spores.

Excellent video brother. Going to save this one for sure. I've been having a problem with my pressure cooker melting holes in my spawn bags! Also, the substrate bags seem to take like 6 weeks plus to colonize! Maybe I did not use enough spawn??
@SporenSprout
@SporenSprout Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! If your bags start melting holes it is most likely from the pressure cooker being too hot and not having enough water in the bottom. You can also try lining the sides with aluminum foil, that seemed to help in the presto 23 quart I used to have. It is not good for substrate to take that long, you should definitely add more spawn (I use a 3LB spawn bag for 4 5 LB substrate blocks) and make sure you shake the crap out of it to evenly distribute every grain, it is very important that the grains reach the bottom of the bag to ensure quicker colonization. Also, lions mane mycelium is much thinner than other species so it is often fully colonized before looking so. Good luck!

Great video. What happens if you just inject the liquid culture into the substrate?
@SporenSprout
@SporenSprout Жыл бұрын
You would have to use a whole syringe at least and you will be missing out on the nutrients provided by the grain, potentially reducing yield.

So once the substrate bag is fully colonized after the 2 weeks of incubation, how long can it keep on growing for? It can't last forever so after how many months of growing should I start a new cycle?

Oh my gosh! I just heard about mushroom grow bags today for the very first time. I don’t have the financial resources nor the confidence to do what you showed, but you did an AMAZING job demonstrating!!! When those mushrooms grow, can you dehydrate them and then powder them? If so do you know what temperature and how many hours? I have the opportunity to buy some mushrooms that have grown so I want to see if I can dehydrate them and then powder them. Thank you very much for your video!!! 🙏
@SporenSprout
@SporenSprout 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! 🙏 Yes you can use a standard food dehydrator on the lowest heat setting and it usually takes around 18-24 hours to be completely dry depending on how full you pack the dehydrator.

How to grow the lions main if you cannot get the hardwood pellets. I tried many times and failed all the time. Can I use H/W mulch for this ?? The hardwood pellets are not available where I live because you don't need heating where I live. and to order it from someone else it will cost me around $80 per 20 kg bag and that is too much.

Instead of rye berries you could use pop corn kernels, whole oats, millet, wild bird seed, or rice. Instead of wheat bran you could use rice bran, oat bran, or coffee grounds.

I'm new to growing. Why do you start with grain spawn and not just go straight to injecting the hardwood substrate with the spores?
@SporenSprout
@SporenSprout Жыл бұрын
Because the grain acts like a carrier for the mycelium. The grain also provides essential nutrients and moisture. Once grain spawn is fully colonized, every kernel can be broken apart and mixed to create an even distribution of contact points within the substrate for quick and even colonization.

You have to sterilize the material so that only the target organism can grow. If not sterilized then other organisms like mold and bacteria will most certainly grow and inhibit the mushroom mycelium.
