Thats why I play golf. It's the only hip action I've got these days.

I'm not a big fan of golf, but I love the technique that goes into a swing.
@proprioceptive4411 жыл бұрын
Reverse occilation of the hips due to the release in the golf swing all that compression into the ground creates torque which is released and creates floating hips for a split second.

Its a combination of his hips and the lag of the clubhead he creates. He has incredible forearm strength to release the club that fast.
@sicko311712 жыл бұрын
he will have this swing his whole life. his swing doesnt put nearly as much stress on his left knee as tigers did. all of rory's power comes from his core and hips and has little stress on his joints
@RayDelVecchio12 жыл бұрын
Yea, you're right - the other thing putting him at #1 is accuracy. A lot of BS golfers can smash the ball - he does it in the exact spot he wants to put it, time and time again. Obviously he is a superior ball striker, and he can control all his shots, high fade to low draw and everything in between. Then again, I'd like to see this same test with Tiger 10 years ago. He was a beast, and will never reach that level again given his knee problems + age.
@BenJogan11 жыл бұрын
I might be wrong but that reverse rotation is probably an effect caused by momentum transfer during his follow-through: after impact his shoulders start slowing down creating tension in the hips, which are still way forward rotated, so they answer with an opposite rotation as a muscular reaction. It's more something caused by massive forces applied with the body, rather than something to imitate directly...
@chakenfangersaregood11 жыл бұрын
true he has a compensating move by stopping his hips to let the arms roll over. But it works!!
@cunftucker962010 жыл бұрын
if rory is 720 per sec. what was bubbas speed when he was hitting hard 3 or 4 years back, with both feet off the ground and hips facing target?
@mrsketchy727311 жыл бұрын
You sure will because you're swinging with your arms not letting your body bring your arms inside when you try to catch your arms up your going to be tightening up thus slowing down your arms making the club late and pushing or slicing the ball right. Pro golfers start the downswing with their lower body the only reason you would be late would be starting the downswing with your arms instead of letting your lower body bring the club on plane through impact

310 driving average is not the same everywhere. remember why -15 won and not a normal us open sore? the course was wet! at the super dry Olympic, i remember 323 by that Patterson guy was the long ball. i don't care how strong you are, its not just that. its being like a roller coaster and gaining speed, rather than wasting all of your energy in the transition.
@peteb1856 жыл бұрын
recently, experts have begun saying that you can only go as fast as you can slow down which is why a lot of golfers are learning to swing the club left handed in an effort to build the weak side muscles. If this is the case, wouldn't rory's split second reverse hip rotation actually be a massive factor in his ability to hit the ball a long way?
@prorobo12 жыл бұрын
What a swing.
@bizzwoofer11 жыл бұрын
Just learn the proper set up and swing. turn your left foot open at a 45 degree angle, and move up your right foot a little - also turned (outward) 45 degrees. KEEP YOUR right knee flexed throughout the entire shot (can't stress enough this one. if you dont do it, your entire shot is thrown off). At adress have almost all weight on right foot (assuming you're a righty). the more open left foot will allow you to involve the hips more than usual, but you will need to flex them like Rory to do it.
@martinhg197712 жыл бұрын
Yes, perhaps he won't hurt his knees.. but what about his spine, then? Golf kinetics is all about rotation of body axis, and that stress from hitting it so strong, and so often, at this age would (hope don't) swell and long-term fibrose his spinal ligaments. As happened to Freddy, Vijay, and many others (even TW himself). You must pay a prize for that level of play, as in all high-level competition
@mrsketchy727311 жыл бұрын
I agree but a fundemental mistake many ameturs make like those that can be fixed at address, grip, balence, alignment, starting with the club open or closed are all fundemental mistakes crucial to executing a consistent swing starting the swing with your arms and trying to get your body to catch up is a fundemental mistake that will cause a loss of power overswinging and incosistency.

not everyone can do this. you have to development muscles early. like around 7 years old. it's all about the fast twitch muscles. you can't develop those muscles later on. the window of opportunity is small. most people don't realize that to develop these muscles, you can not just play golf. you develop these muscles by playing other sports such has baseball, throwing a frisbee, tennis, etc. picking up golf at an early age and you can develop a sound golf swing, but you will be weak.

@mikepownzall considering I only know a few guys that are rory's size that consistently hit the ball over 280, that's what makes it special. Look on tour, the shorter guys don't average over 280. Hell, Rocco Mediate averages about 268 yds off the tee. Jim furyk averages closer to 278. Pro golfers don't hit the ball as far as everything thinks. Its special because Rory is swinging this fast, generating this power AND is scoring as low, if not lower, than most other players on tour

False. Your hips pull the club head through the hitting area, keeping the club square through the hitting zone longer.

no it isn't, its the recipe for a powerful and stable golf swing........ a trait that is found in many great 'swingers' who played the game throughout history and achieved multiple major championship success....... Rory just rebounds a little more than most ;-)

I don't buy that theory for a second (no offense...). But, I have seen enough to know that willpower can trump just about any obstacle. With the right coaching, steely determination, and the right circumstances, I would bet someone could achieve comperable results over time at almost any age.

The important thing is that the hips lead. So if you've hit a wall distance wise, trying to rotate your shoulders faster will not help unless you can speed up your hip rotation as well.

errrrrr.... this hip recoil is very noticeable on Rory but he's hardly unique........... Snead had it, Palmer had it big time, and so on and so on..... essentially lots of big hitting golfers who had a classical golf swing...... basically, if you snap hips open aggressively, as far as they can through and left, whilst lagging the shoulders, this leads to a brief moment of recoil as the torque is released when the hands go past impact, before momentum continues forwards from the upper body
