I’m in less pain but the damage done to a spinal chord is not reversible with surgery but surgery will stop it from progressing. If your still doing BJJ I would advise stopping. And if they recommend surgery get it done before it gets worse. It won’t get better without it.

Summary: Neck cranks and chokes over time create problems in the nerves that create problems in other areas. Keep your neck safe, strong and tap early or you can't do bjj for years.

For anyone interested: I injured my elbow 13 years ago. Injured it again 4 years later and super reinjured it 5 months ago... got diagnosis with a bone spur and arthritis. I havent done tricep or shoulder exercises w/o pain since the first injury & after the last reinjury, it still hurt and i was still weak 30days later... it hurt to curl 15lbs - I could only do 12lbs with no pain. I got bpc157 for about $300. It was a month supply. I had done some research - everything said it was great by unproven. After 30days, I felt fine. I felt better. Now after 2 months later, I feely awesome - in fact I forgot about my injury until just this week because I haven't been hurting like I used it. I was 100% on the path to surgery & now may not have to. I 100% recommend it at this point.

I do not have this exactly but it is advised to get some treatment on the abductor and extensor pollicus muscles. You should also wear a brace at night to help it and while doing errands around the home to prevent further injury to it.

Tons, but you need to figure out what is the best for you. Typically, I recommend lots of back strengthening, neck strengthening exercises that are isometric in nature.

My issue is I’ve had neck problems dating back to Iraq while in the Marine Corps. Then body building caused some serious issues, then got into Bjj and man I get more injured by people showing me stuff then I do live rolling. Seems like every time is like here get in my guard and I’ll show you how to do this. My body is chill and limp because it’s of course it’s just training right? Then the next thing I know I’m cranked and injured and I’m sitting there like wtf dude. Just show the dang move. Don’t go 100% For anyone reading this that starts Bjj, always always ease into your submissions starting at 50% and going up. You don’t want to Injure your teammates in the freaking gym. Save that power for comps. I’m seriously beginning to think I have arthritis. The pain I’m feeling now is so normal to me. I roll my back everyday and I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve felt this injury in my life. Well over 100 times and I’m 34

What should I do to get better? :( it usually heals up after a few weeks, feels almost 100%, then some Peruvian necktie or similar motion will just mess everything up.. lots of pain, can’t turn my head can’t look up and down...
@DrJoshJagoda
@DrJoshJagoda 4 жыл бұрын
Stop getting Peruvian neck tied ahhaah. Realistically, if you are suffering this issue over and over its eventually going to catch up with you. BJJ is hard on the neck! Go get some treatment! There is no way you can have quality BJJ and longevity without taking care of your body. Especially, if you continue to roll and are breaking down. Go see a LMT, Chiro, PT, Physio who can help you. That what I do when my neck gets jacked up from this stuff!

I got put in a nasty darce and heard a crack in my neck. I stopped and slept if off and felt stiff and sore, but not bad enough to not train, well after rolling a couldn't turn my head so I went and got an MRI.. I have worn my discs out badly. I know have numbess in hands, headaches and brain fog. Has anyone had anything similar? My BJJ is on hold and I'm actually thinking about throwing in the towel if things don't get better 😔 I am also developing stenosis. Guys, make sure you tap more often. My stubbornness has wrecked me

Please check out my last comment as I replied to you. I have personally had this from BJJ so I understand. It really requires a good rehab program and maybe even some manual therapy to help the neck! You will want to focus on longevity of your body, sport and rehab process. If you like help, we can help you via a program and virtual consults.

I am sure you can at some point. I have encountered people who do but that is a very specific question and you would need to speak to your doctor about that. I would imagine that it would take a few months to recover from surgery, and rehab as well as sport specific training before diving back in.

John McCarthy told Joe Rogan on the JRE Podcast that he got a lot smaller by practicing BJJ. Rogan confirmed that by telling a story where Eddie Bravo lost 2inches by doing BJJ and getting his spine cranked over and over again. Is that a myth or can that be true?
@DrJoshJagoda
@DrJoshJagoda 5 жыл бұрын
As we age we do lose height. Injury and trauma can speed this up so by him losing 2 inches it may not be directly correlated with height loss but can be a normal part of aging plus injuries.
