Used bark mulch once for all my gardens...never again! Birds flick it all over lawn, paths etc EVERY day. Constant constant blowing/sweeping! Riverstones/white chip from now on

I find after a while it settles but when you have as much area to mulch as I do, I need materials that are cost effective. Some of the other more mainstream mulch options that are popular today would require a second mortgage to spread on my scale

I can’t remember if you did the late season renovation on the Santa Ana when you did the Tiftuf, but if you didn’t it would explain why the Santa Ana was more leggy and scalped. But it’s all looking great coming out of a Scone winter.

Beautiful lawn and gardens. Did you consider a slightly elevated garden bed with something like steel FormBoss garden edging? One of my pet hates is lawn clippings ending up in the garden bed or mulch ending up on the lawn. I'm having this done on my gardens at my new home next week. Should make edging alot easier and neater.
@theaussielawn
@theaussielawn 9 ай бұрын
Thanks mate, it’s getting there slowly I actually didn’t think of the raised edging but going forward I’m hopeful the tri colour will cover the area nicely and hide sins like clippings or bark getting spread about

Hi Brenton, just with those Cycads, keep your dog well away from them and make sure he doesn't chew or eat any part of them. They are highly toxic to dogs and can kill them. We lost a dog a few years ago when he chewed on on some off-cuts. Might be worth a quick google. Just a heads up mate.

How do you rate the John Deere with catcher? Im still running a 15+ year old Rover Raider which still goes ok but was considering an upgrade. Unsure which brand Im going for but the Rover has done me very well. Had it 14 years and bought second hand with the only issue being rust from salt air close to the beach. Awesome looking yard by the way

I love the JD I've had mine since about 2012 its served me very well. The main reason I went with a JD was the after sales support previously I had a Masport which was just a rebranded Murray the biggest issue was parts availability. Not with the JD everything is always on hand when required.
@grantis80
@grantis80 9 ай бұрын
@theaussielawn cool, there is a Masport dealer nearby but the old Rover is getting hard for parts and everything is ex East Coast (I'm in WA). Whatever I get has to have a catcher and trailer and I like the way you just took the bags off to connect the trailer

Thanks for sharing re the cycads. I had read that. Max isn’t allowed out the front yard without being on a lead and under supervision so hopefully for us it won’t be a problem but it’s good to make everyone aware. I probably should touch on it in a video

So I've probably asked this before but I've got brush trimmer I don't have the blade edger head anymore and my front yard an nature strip is predominantly buffalo grass and it's a real pain tho cut back any tips on how to get it done easier would be great
@MrGazzaj
@MrGazzaj 9 ай бұрын
You sound low on tools so what I suggest might not be good advice. De thatch it because it could be over thick with old grass, edge it with a lawn edger steel blade. If you own the lawn edger turn it sideways and there’s a quick bush trimmer for you. It’s not efficient but better than nothing.
@theaussielawn
@theaussielawn 9 ай бұрын
In that case mate id say increase your frequency of edging, The old saying goes "persistence beats resistance" Once you have an edge in place maintaining will be much simpler

@theaussielawn
@theaussielawn 9 ай бұрын
I think its a reasonable machine but have a look at a Bushranger bushrangerpe.com.au/browse-products/rotary-mower/46tb5em-lawn-mower-bush46tb5em you'll get a 4 blade cut Vs 2 on the masport, Support an Australian company too. Or they do a cheaper machine that is more in line with the masport you asked about bushrangerpe.com.au/browse-products/rotary-mower/46tb45-lawn-mower-bush46tb45

Brenton, do you know anywhere in the Maitland area to get some sand mix from? All I can find at this stage is bricky sand and washed beach sand.
@theaussielawn
@theaussielawn 9 ай бұрын
I think my mate Ben used something from Blue Gum Landscape supplies, I'd go there personally and ask to see all the different sands they have one on the website called fill sand. from the pic it looks like it would be worth looking more closely at. Avoid letting any company steering you into any sort of "top dress mix"
@philrichmond5919
@philrichmond5919 9 ай бұрын
Specialised sand and soil at Pitnacree might be able to help you. Otherwise Mackas sand in Port Stephens can supply USGA spec sand. Blue Gum I don’t trust anymore because a lot of their supply is sourced from ANL and is too variable in quality.

If you worry about everything that can cause cancer you’d never go out. Sunlight, car exhaust fumes, even sawdust. Every species of wood is classified as carcinogenic. Lawn mowing - grass contains silica, silica dust is harmful. There’s plenty of things in nature more likely to kill you. Glyphosate is one of the least harmful chemicals, it’s less toxic to humans than table salt.
