Mother Nature has decided to drop the most snow we've had from one storm this season. The snow and the rain doesn't mean much is getting done in the woodyard.

There is no snow here, but a combination of sunshine and rain has been making a great time at the end of the day to get something done😉👍

Keep the mini firewood bags out of the sun while you season them. The bags will deteriorate from the sunlight and fall apart. Sheib did a video on that.

The local saying is "it isn't Easter yet" when it comes to the last big snow of the year. We always seem to get a big (relatively) snow just before or after Easter. It usually doesn't last long on the ground and is usually wet and heavy.

It has been a very mold winter here in S. E. Ohio. We could get by with filling our stove once a day. But we go ahead & tend to it twice. Enjoy the snow!!! Lol rainy here

The big spring snow is certainly making a mess in these parts but it's been a nice mild winter for working in the woodyard. I'll take it :)

The stacks you have in the new small racks are a thing of beauty. I saw on a KZfaq video of a guy no longer on there, he went to a local lumber yard and was given the tarps that packs of lumber come in. I checked my local Lowe’s and sure enough got some for free. They were happy to get rid of them.

Nasty weather. Good idea on the bags for the mini splits. The sale increase on firewood bags could be because it’s easier for people to pick it up and go. Instead of loading the loose wood. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤔👋🪵🪓🔥

Well Dan you got about 10inches, and We got almost a Foot. Started on Friday Night and then went over to Freezing Rain and then Back to a Blizzard for the Afternoon. At a stand still which is alright as I still Heal up. But good News because of my Physical condition being up there the Doctor said lite duty starting Thursday for 1hour EVERY OTHER DAY. Hopefully the Snow will be all gone by that time. Stay Safe out there my Friend, and hopefully you can start to use your new Wolfridge 28c Wood Splitter sometime this Week. Weather is very Strange. More Snow over the Weekend than all Winter Long. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.

Dan Is there a way to lower the temp. control turn on temp without changing the cut off temp. This will increase the burn time for each cycle. Also the creosote will burn if you stir it into the hot coals and let it burn before you put wood in. Something to try.

just an idea, to store the mini firewood, cut the top and bottem of the ibc tote plastic and leave the walls, bit of work with the grinder but you will save money on the bags
@Back40Firewood
@Back40Firewood 2 ай бұрын
That might work, however wouldn't allow much airflow....I might line a tote with wire to contain the small pieces.
@maximkozak9689
@maximkozak9689 2 ай бұрын
@@Back40Firewood if you want airflow you can then cut into the plastic ling rows vertically that are a inch or so wide with your grinder, make long stripes that would let air pass through!

Do you think it didn’t last all winter due to warmer weather and not burning as hot or possibly wet wood what is your thoughts on this?
@outdoorsinthe608
@outdoorsinthe608 2 ай бұрын
@@justinauman5438 I think Dan is correct because of the warmer winter and burning less in my case I’m starting fires more often rather than just keeping the fire going. The most build up happens when the fire is not as hot.

Up here in Northern Minnesota we had about 7-8 inches as of 3pm 3/25. We are suppose to get another 4-8 today. Great idea with the small wood sales. Using mesh bags will make it easier to handle. What do you charge for a bag of smoker wood? The boxed wood your selling on line you charge 27.99. Does that box hold as much as a bag? Later . Al Club Dora

I understand that 140* internal temp for 60 minutes is for bug/larve (beetle) kill. That's so it can be moved across state lines, I think. Plz check my work on this. It's new information for me.
@Back40Firewood
@Back40Firewood 2 ай бұрын
Yes, you are correct. The heat treatment process is to make sure no bugs/eggs are on the wood when it crosses from state to state.

In my woodstove...Every morning or every other morning. I build a roasting hot fire to keep any creosote burnt out. Do you have any way of building a super hot fire in the boiler, especially like now when you are out there to keep an eye on it? Leave the door cracked or chimney open or some way of just filling it up good and letting a hot fire roast the creosote for 30-min to an hour without damaging the boiler?
@Back40Firewood
@Back40Firewood 2 ай бұрын
That's not a bad idea, just not sure if the fire got too hot it might end up boiling off some water and lower the water level. I had that happen once when my rope seal was shot and air continued getting in...the water temp got too hot and water was coming out the overflow tube on the top. Think I'm gonna throw in a couple of those creosote remover logs.
@waynetharp
@waynetharp 2 ай бұрын
@Back40Firewood You would need to do your own research but I see comments from people all the time about burning aluminum cans in their stoves for creosote build up. How many is needed? IDK but supposedly works better than the logs?!?!
@waynetharp

@Back40Firewood I wonder if a quick hot fire would boil less water than having a continuous air leak from bad roping? There's only one way to find out, and I suggest doing it after dark so we can see the jet 🔥 coming out of the chimney!🤠
