Springbank 15yo review

It’s 2024 and it’s the first uncorking and review of the year. A little rusty I must say but we’re off to a cracking start with this Springbank 15yo which was the august bottling of 2023.
Springbank in itself is a bit of a unicorn whisky these days so to be able to find this in the wild was a wonderful experience.
A huge shoutout as well to Drew from AZ for helping with this one it’s massively appreciated buddy.

Great review Kev, you picked a solid bottle to start the year. I forsee a road trip to Campbeltown in your future. Maybe even an on-location video or two. I have a 15 unopened in the cupboard, I do need to get to it. Hats off to Drew for his ongoing friendship and support!

I’ve been swaying about a trip back down again it’s been a while since I’ve been, a few years infact. I believe the launch of the latest releases are due so I’ll maybe find a day and head down early and have a day at campbeltown… and maybe even record a video or two as well 🥃😉

Perfect way to kick off 2024, Kev! For New Years Eve, I cracked open a bottle of the 15, an April 2022 bottling, that I had been saving. It's just so good.

I enjoy my SB-15 so much. I waited probably way too long to buy it after I kept seeing it (surprisingly) still sitting on the shelf gathering dust at one of my local stores. But one day I decided to pull the trigger and snatch it before anyone else did. I haven't been disappointed. Excellent excellent product. Glad you now have a bottle, Kevin.

It’s so difficult to find them these days as they usually get snapped up the moment they’re out there. Glad you were able to get one and it sat there patiently waiting for you to return. I think next if I see the 10 as mine is nearly done I’ll get myself a new one to re stock. Springbank and Kilkerran are just two whiskies that I really enjoy 🥃

Coudn't agree more. I can never get any Kilkerran myself. but I still have a 1/3 of an older Kilkerran 12 that I'm still nursing. Can't beat that wonderful Campbeltown funk@@Letstalkwhisky

Although I'm fairly new to my whiskey journey, this may be my favorite whiskey so far. I have a bottle from May 2023. It's exquisite! Great review!

It’s a great whisky to love. And I hope you have a cracking whisky journey and there’s so much out there to enjoy. You may have spoiled yourself with the 15 as it’s hard to get but that can show how good it is as well. Slainte buddy

Excellent review, Kevin. Good to have you back in 2024! I have a 2020 bottling of the SB15 (40% sherry, 60% bourbon) open in my cabinet, and it's actually been open for more than a year and it's just below the shoulders now. The reason... it didn't blow me away right after uncorking and I decided to leave it resting for quite a while. Then late December last year (just before New Year) I poured a dram from it.... and OH MY. Just a different experience, this time it impressed me (if not all the way up at "blew me away" level). That release imho - has the Campbeltown funk, and it kind of (albeit at a lower ABV) reminded me of one of the 12 yo cask strength bottles that I had in my collection a couple of years ago. Dirty, funky, factory, oily, workshoppy you know... just great stuff. I was actually lucky enough to find the 2023 bottling (95% sherry, 5% bourbon) at a very reasonable price a month ago, and honestly... I couldn't resist (I'm weak... guilty as charged!), so I bought a bottle of it (actually together with the SB 18 yo - that was indeed a VERY good day, oh yes!). I don't think that you mentioned which batch your bottle is (or am I just so tired at the end of the work week that I missed it?), but when they disappear so quickly from the shelves, I'd suppose that it's a 2023 bottling as well in order for you to be able to buy it now? Amazing that you were able to get a hold of a 15 and an 18 together. That’s a really good whisky day. I get a lot of those notes you say as well and this one being the august 2023 release which I believe is the 100% sherry cask. It was a really great first experience but I can tell this will get even better and my future drams will probably be better and better. I’ve had so many good experience out in the wild with this whisky but it’s very difficult to find a bottle these days. So seeing this I had to pick it up. I hope the 15 and 18 you got your hands on are stellar drams too

@@Letstalkwhisky Yes, it's crazy times indeed. But I only pulled the trigger because both bottles were priced way below "normal" price levels for these 2 Springbank age statements these days. The 15 yo was 25-30% cheaper and the 18 yo actually 30-50% cheaper (depending on the other webshops' availability). They'll be excellent... I'm quite confident about that 😎🥃

Very difficult to get hold of a bottle. Well, at a decent price anyway but I managed to get one up in Oban. Fantastic whiskey. I understand the hype around Springbank. I always think leather and old books when drinking it. Nice review, keep up the good work!

I get those leather notes as well and the 15 I’ve had before have been magic and I think this will open up to be another cracking dram. But I’ll try and pace myself with it as it’s easy to reach for

11:00 a man after my own heart brother . Lucky getting that I don't even attempt to get any springbank other than longrow and years ago hazelburn but that'll be to dear now aswell . I don't pay more than necessary.

It was a crazy experience to see this out in the wild and I had to pick it up and I had to open it straight away too. Hopefully you can find one in the wild one day at a good price 🥃

Im was trying to stay calm and within 30 mins of purchasing the bottle it was open. Hopefully I can refrain from reaching for it more often than others. I’ll maybe hide it to the back of the shelf 🥃

@ronanmcconnellable I’m not to sure what the RRP should be but I paid £90 for the 15 which I think is a bit expensive. But non the less it’s great to find one just sitting on a shelf so I had to get it 🥃

I have the very same bottle, as yet unopened. Interestingly I don't get any 'Campbeltown funk' on Glen Scotia nor Glengyle whiskies.

Whisky is magical on how we all have our different tasting notes we get from the same whiskies I love that, as long as we enjoy the drams in our own right that’s all that matters. Glad you still enjoy them and hopefully share a dram soon. 🥃

I waited a while to get my first bottle of SB15. Actually managed to get hold of the 18 first. I was underwhelmed by both, good whiskies as is the 10, but none of them are top tier for me. Odd, because Glengyle is my favourite distillery by a country mile.

I’ve had great experiences in the past with the 15 and this I feel will open up to be something special that I remember. The 10 is such a cracking dram and I love Kilkerran too. Just a great part of the whisky world.
