Really only one. It recesses the rifling in order to protect it. It's really more for esthetics then anything else.

I'm going to be custom building my own 6" long slide as well. I want to Cerakote it like I did to my Sprinfield M1A. I love this stuff. It looks so good, and is so tough. Anyway, if I start with a carbon slide in the white, how do you get any finish into the extractor and firing tubes to prevent internal corrosion? Or, do you just keep them very well lubed to prevent internal rust?

Got a question for this one, too, if you don't mind: I'm planning on putting a 6" ported barrel on a regular 5" slide, with a comp with matching cuts as mouthpiece. Was wondering if I should use the standard link or maybe get another size, given the fact there's going to be almost an inch of barrel protruding AND shrouded at the same time.
