Just a quick follow up on the previous video I did on the prodigy and how things are going so far. In short, it’s awesome after just a little elbow grease!
Link to fist video on how to break the pistol in without firing a single round and make it run 100% reliably BEFORE you hit the range, waste ammo, get frustrated and loose all confidence in the gun.
• Springfield Prodigy DS...
Trigger job video link on how to adjust pull weight by American trucker.
• How to do Trigger job ...
Front sight is on order from Kensight and is a Tritium front for SPRINGFIELD 1911s, dovetail dimensions are .340”X60 degrees, “contoured” which will match the radius of the top of the slide the way the factory one does, make sure it’s the .250” height sight as comes standard on the Prodigy and will have the hole to fit the roll pin which holds the front sight in place.

absolutely correct on the finish leaching off and causing a problem. Dry racked mine until I was numb...constant slide issues, and black sludge looking residue constant. After 2-3 days of playing with it, manual sliding by hand, and now I have 2000 rounds shot with not a single malfunction. Multiple ammo, from cheap to pricy hollow points. I have ordered a stainless Fire group from EGW to get the mims out of the equation. Great video, gave you a sub man.

Same routine on an out-of-the-box 5" prodigy. The coating debris was definitely building up on the rear of the slide. I racked it about 900 times, with cleaning and lubing 3 times throughout, until it wiped up clean. Worked flawlessly from the first shot.

I just Traded for a 4.25 Prodigy and went to the range today. The pistol ate 50rds of S&B 124 gr fmj without a hiccup it’s a small sample size of one brand of ammo but after all the horror stories I’ve heard. it was encouraging to see. This Pistol is an absolute driver. The trigger is not great by 1911 standards but it’s still better than most pistols. It just sucks up recoil and follow up shots are fast and accurate. Can’t wait to try it with my SRO

Good stuff! I have a feeling most will find out the same. Those that are accustomed to things like glocks will likely be the ones who cause the biggest stir around this thing honestly, I don’t think it’s any less reliable than a Glock for sure and I will absolutely be carrying mine, I changed the front sight out to a tritium one for durability and that’s all I had left to do before I started using it as a carry.

It does work, I’ve not replaced a single mechanical part on the pistol that alters it’s functionality in any way, more than likely what’s happened is this is probably their first experience with cerakote as a coating and they allowed it to get into the places it shouldn’t be, I would expect that they will likely implement a way to keep it out of those places moving forward.

I just thought about it. The prodigy is all cerakote. The issues it’s been having could be from over coating. With that being said it probably just need a break in period or use some fine sand paper to sand the slide and frame to lightly remove some of that cerakote in the meeting points

Very impressed!! Now I can’t wait to pick up this prodigy. Sorry for all the questions. Sounds like you are familiar with the 19/2011 platform, how do you think this pistol compares to the other pistols in this category? I’ve got a couple Stacattos and bought this Springfield to see where the extra $1400 went. lol. The C and C2 are great guns but had to work out the disconnect drag on the C2. Same method, actually. Manual function saves a lot of time and ammo. Again, thank you.
@jamesstewart9970
@jamesstewart9970 Жыл бұрын
In all honesty I just don’t think the staccatos are worth what they are asking for them, especially since you can get rid of all the mim parts in the prodigy for about 200 bucks if you felt the need, the staccato does come completely nitrided but even then I can’t see the offset in cost and I like the agency arms mounts better than what staccato is using personally. Im sure staccato puts in the elbow grease in making sure they run great from the factory but with that being said, a competent person can put that same elbow grease into the prodigy and have something that’s every bit as good for a fraction of the price. The Vudoo on the other hand is and will be much different from both in terms of how it’s made from a manufacturing standpoint and those differences will be noticeable and worth the added cost.

My 4.25 runs awesome when clean. After about 100 rounds the slide slows until the rounds don't chamber completely. If I run a bore snake through it'll run again. Might be the ammo shooting dirty or chamber needing a slight ream.

You can do it with it on the gun, it actually makes it easier to do but keep in mind you’ll have to take the gun down and clean it really well after the cerakote stops wearing out of the places it shouldn’t be, I used simple green and hot water then dried and oiled everything again after I was done.

Guessing since you're using grease that it's loosened up quite a bit. I can only use grease on one of my 1911s, and it's cause it's pretty loose after the finish wore off the rails. My others are super smooth but fit very well and steel on steel instead of any type of finish. If I put grease in them they just squeegee it right out the back and it slows down the function of the gun.
@jamesstewart9970
@jamesstewart9970 Жыл бұрын
The grease I’m using isn’t very thick at all and it normally fairly warm where I live, main reason I’m using it is because oil tends to migrate a lot more than a thin grease but this one is still pretty tight fitment wise.

I got a 4.25 recently and the internal finish is absolutely flying off every single time you rack the slide, a lot of it also came off the rails just when i cleaned it the first time. I think the real problem mine is having is the disconnector(i think it is called) seems to be dragging the slide quite a bit and is causing my malfunctions. My right safety lever also seems to be bent inward very aggressively which scratches the slide and also will catch on the frame on its way down causing it to feel and even hear like the safety has been de activated but in reality it has not and has to be forced down some more. This is my first 1911 and was a really big spend for me and feel really defeated, my ffl says it will cost over 100$ just to ship it to Springfield and they haven't even responded to my support ticket anyway. Any advice from anyone would be much appreciated.
@jamesstewart9970
@jamesstewart9970 Жыл бұрын
The cerakote finish needs to come out of the slide and frame rails to reliably function, it’s a good thing trust me, now if the safety lever got bent prior to you getting it then either your ffl or Springfield is responsible for it. The disconnector exerts very force against the slide, but if you couple that with an excessive amount of friction from the cerakote it will cause problems, make sure you check out the other video I did on it as well!

I just sent mine back in to Springfield. I emailed their warranty department listed on their website and the next day they emailed me back. Just had to give them my information and firearm serial # and then they sent me a paid shipping label for FedEx. You just have to box the firearm up in the zipper case, put it in a box and in the box put a written/typed letter with your info and all the issues you are having or would like looked at. It was easy. Then just find a FedEx location near you that will ship firearms. Also, make sure you register your Prodigy for the warranty beforehand.
