I finally had my transmission serviced. I sent this video to my mechanic and he did this to my transmission. I bought my sprinter van 5yrs ago. Soon after that, the trans started to rumble between the down shift between most of the gears. Problem for almost 5 yrs is gone.

Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I just bought a sprinter and put a new engine in, on the test drive the rumbling scared the mess out of me. Thought I needed a new transmission. I followed your instructions and it works perfect! Thanks!

I also have a beautiful lady, 05 sprinter. I drilled the plate my last filter change,It worked.Very smooth acceleration ,smooth shifting.Thanks for posting this video.

I have the same Sprinter 2005 long and tall and the transmission rumbles and Carries On I put some additive in it took care of it for a little and then it came back and it just rumbles and Carries On so and then show this video to my mechanic and we're going to do it thank you

@@andrews9328 My mechanic did what the video shows to do. Hasn't rumbled since. I think what was happening, the fluid gets trapped in the torque converter and by drilling this tiny hole, it releases the pressure

How precise does position of the hole need to be ? Looks like it is exactly in the middle of 2 existing holes . Would that measurement work . Thanks

Excellent camera work! You make it look so easy. I constantly have RSN. What does drilling that small hole do to stop the noise and how do you know where to drill it. I have an 08' 3.0. Thanks!

Yes MPG went down slightly as well,

Did you tighten to a specific torque spec on any of the bolts? or simply tighten them with a drill? thanks!

I use drill because it’s faster , but don’t over tighten it, hand-tight it after

Will this fix work on a 2008 Freightliner sprinter 3500? I have a shudder when accelerating lightly.

I try it on my 2013 sprinter, works but bring up the normal running rpm a lot and switch gears rpm. The same way home to work normally i got 15mpg now i only got 11mpg. Anyway else can fix the problem ? And what cost the problems :(?

johnnie walker my friend have same problem on his newer sprinter , The vibration so bad sometimes it’s feels like the whole car is jumping , we haven’t figured out the problem yet :\

More likely you burned the torque converter clutch. Did you have to change the torque converter?

Привет!!! Пару лет назад я встречал парнишку.. и он расказывал мне что делал тоже такое отверстие .. но он почему-то пожаловался не могу точно вспомнить либо она буксовала немного или теряла мощность.. он мне даже сверлышки дал тонкие.. я в тот момент засовневался .. как у тебя ведет трансмиссия есть ли какие-то изменения.. или может тоньше сделать отверстия..есть ли кто это ещё делал.. и откуда взялся этот размер.. идею подерживаю но неходелось бы попасть.. спасибо.

На старых спринтеров, 2006 и ниже, этот метод работает для устранения вибрации если отверстие сделано на .55 мм и меньше. Сам всё это сделал на своём 2006 спринтере и проехал 300,000 миль без никаких проблем. На 2007 и поновее этот метод не работает. Сам попробовал на 2008 спритере и пришлось поменять трансмиссию после этого. Что происходит, сгорает муфта в гидротрансформаторе (torque converter clutch) и от этого трансмиссионное масло становится как смола. Так что будьте осторожны...

I heard it does, but I also heard that people couple of times just changed the oil and rumbling noise went away

It doesn't on 2006 and older Sprinters if the size of the hole is .55 mm or less. If the hole is bigger/greater than .55 mm you could burn the clutch inside of the torque converter. On 2007 and up Sprinters, this fix for the RSN doesn't not work. You will destroy the torque converter clutch by trying this method of fixing the RSN. The only way to try to fix the RSN on newer Sprinters is to reset the adaptation values of the torque converter clutch. It requires a Xentry diagnostic system.
