Hey guys! I am so excited to share with you guys an early look at the Mirage F1CE coming soon for DCS World!
I have been a huge Mirage F1 Fan for a long time now, it has such a deep and interesting history full of political and ideological intrigue. Its also just a really cool and beautiful aircraft!
This video shows off my very first flight in the Mirage F1CE and we go over an overview of the aircraft, we talk about some of its unique features and give my first impressions of the module.
So far I think Aerges has done a fantastic job with this module and you can tell a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into its creation.

Very informative video Spud, thank you! A few points of interest regarding the F1 in South African service. We claimed 2 Mig kills by F1CZ, both kills achieved by the same pilot. We operated 2 versions of the F1 (CZ and AZ ground attack with 1 Squadron). The Mig 23s that we later encountered in the Border conflict actually out classed the F1s in speed, and we were also operating very far North of our own airfields, at the limit of the F1's range. I believe we lost one F1AZ to a SAM, 2 others were hit by SAMs but recovered safely back to airfields in Namibia (then South West Africa). were repaired and returned to service. 1 F1CZ was hit by a AAM on a mission, but also recovered safely back to friendly airfields, however the ejection seat malfunctioned on landing and ejected the pilot when the aircraft was already on the ground, causing him to be paralyzed from the waist down. We did have a fair number of F1s lost outside of the conflict. The SAAF continued to look to advance the systems capabilities of the F1 during it's service life. They received newer RWRs (nick named Cat's Balls in the service), on either side of the nose, and up on the tail. We also then modified the ventral strakes to carry chaff and flare, so no longer had to carry them in the dive brakes. I believe the F1AZ also received modifications to carry 16 bombs on various stores ejection racks. When the Mirage F1CZ was retired from the Air Force, 3 Squadron achieved a 100% serviceability rate on the F1. The CZ was operated by 3 Squadron from 1975 until 1992. The F1AZ served with 1 Squadron from 1976 until 1997. A handful of F1AZs were sold to Gabon, and have served there.

More info for y'all The AZ was a ground attack version specified by South Africa as a way to quickly replace Mirage IIIs and supplement their Mirage 5s. It had a simple rangefinding radar and laser rangefinder in the nose in place of the Cyrano. Libya also ended up picking some up to complement their Su-22s and Mirage 5s. This version was unique to those two customers; all other F1s had fire control radars

@@hvymtal8566 You are correct with the purchase of the F1 to supplement, and replace our Mirage III fleet in certain roles (we flew Mirage III BZ, CZ, DZ, D2Z, EZ, RZ and R2Z). However, we never flew the Mirage 5 in its original form. Some of our Cheetah fleet came from Israeli Neshers.

Also the design was chosen because of the threat of airfields being cratered. The Mirage F1 with it's robust landing gear and non delta wing could take off and land from makeshift runways or damaged runways. Great vid! Looking forward to this for over 2 years now

Mirage F.1 used BLU-107 Durandal sophisticated runway cratering bombs since mid-1970s. I think it's good time to improve overall runway cratering mechanics. This will be crucial mission when new dynamic campaign will become available in DCS.

As a flight sim enthusiast, I am usually drawn to buy those aircraft I feel some relationship with. The Mirage F1 is one such aircraft. As a National Serviceman in South Africa, I was based in Pretoria during the years 1978-79. I had the opportunity several times to visit the Waterkloof AFB, and on one such occasion I was taken to a hangar used by the Mirage F1 fighter squadron based there. My escort was a specialist in ejection seats and related survival gear. We looked into the cockpit of one of the F1’s while he pointed out various items of interest. So I am very much looking forward to the launch of the Aerges Mirage F1. It would be wonderful if a South African Air Force livery could be part of the release.

The reason for 30mm cannons is in Soviet and French doctrine was the main purpose of the gun was to shoot down a bomber aircraft and 20mm was considered not powerfull enough and having to small range, both Soviet and French designs were first interceptors, then fighters. In US doctrine gun was mostly to shoot down enemy fighters in a dogfight during offensive air superiority patrols and very high rate of fire was ideal to hit a small maneuvering tactical fighter. Thanks for the Mirage video!

no, soviets chose the 30mm for simply being a better gun, not for shooting down bombers. Thats what missiles were for.

@@19Koty96 Yeah, remember when the Phantom was supposed to be a purely missile bus, because guns are obsolete? guess what they re-added on its future variants? Between the 20 and 30mm, I like to think its down to "How much ammo do you want to carry more of" question.

@jubuttib
@jubuttib 2 жыл бұрын
Gotta wonder about the range argument for the DEFA 30x113mm at least, the muzzle velocity on it is a good 25% slower than on the M61. The Russian 30mm guns tend to be in 30x165mm, which is ballistically very near to the 30x173mm round used in the GAU-8 on the A-10. The DEFA's round is very close (if not identical?) to the one used by the M230 in the Apache. Also as far as I can see most of the Russian jets in the MiG-21 era, prior to MiG-29 and Su-27, used the 23x115mm calibre autocannons, with mostly the ground attack planes opting for the 30x165mm.
@19Koty96
@19Koty96 2 жыл бұрын
@@jubuttib no, fighters at the end of 50s all transitioned to 30mm (Su-7, MiG-19, MiG-21), while interceptors went for all-missile armament. Because fuck getting sprayed by radar-guided tail guns, or trying to gun a Mach 2 target.

Your enthusiasm for this jet got me to pull the trigger, and its my first Jet in DCS, so far its awesome, I also use your Track IR profile and it needed zero changes, it works and its perfect. I've had it now since april this year. I'm more of a heli guy but I felt I needed to get a jet and this one will give the best bang for buck going forward I felt plus I wanted something older. Super happy, no complaints, its a bit harder to land than the Viggen was wich I trialed earlier, but getting 4 versions, one of them being much more high tech and completely different make this module a no brainer for me. Cant wait to see what the other 3 variants bring, especially the M. Another thing I like about this thing is the big guns, if I hit something its supposed to go down, not be tickled! ;) Keep up the awesome work on this channel! :)

An awesome vid indeed, as you’d mentioned: it’s been very successfully used by the Iraqi AF during Iq/In war, this great jet been used for intercept/sea rules. This jet used to ambush the Iranian F-14 from very low altitude and suddenly claiming to the F-14 and shoot it down in too many occasions. Another rule was when the F-1 used by the Iq pilots to lase to the Su-22 for dropping it’s guided Russian bombs. Also it’s been used for aerial refueling at an altitude of 50 meters sea level F-1to F-1 and F-1 taking from the Su-22. This jest brought the air victories to the IqAF during Iq/In war. It was the most advanced in warfare rules using the Rimura jamming pod.

So love that you talked about the AIM-9JULI as I had no clue about that and it is super handy to know that it is a Lima equivalent. Also nice that you covered NWS cautions. However I must ding you on whatever the caution light that was on till just shortly before the attack run was. You never once mentioned it during pre take off to explain what it was or why it was still on. After flying around for awhile you simply clicked it off and still didn't mention what it was or why it had been on up to that point. I tried several times to stop and read it when you were pointed in the direction but I just couldn't make out what it was cautioning about.

That was a great demo, quite comprehensive. One thing I would've liked to see is a supersonic run. You mentioned the slippery nature of the jet, which translates to me as an exceptionally low drag design. So I wonder, just how fast will it go, and also, it seems that slippery/low drag thing might translate to pretty decent range. Is that the case, does the F-1 have good range?

Just started watching the video, and I'm not sure whether it's mentioned in the hour worth of footage, but here's a blurb on the planned variants for the module. They're all Spanish export iterations. • F1CE (on release): Export version of the Mirage F1C for Spain. Single-seat all-weather interceptor. • F1EE (post-release): Export version of the Mirage F1E for Spain. Single-seat all-weather multi-role fighter and ground-attack aircraft. • F1BE (post-release): Export version of the Mirage F1B for Spain. Two-seat operational conversion trainer. Very slightly longer, but the second seat comes at the cost of less internal fuel capacity and the loss of the internal cannons. • F1M (post-release): Upgrade applied to 48 Spanish F1CE/EE. The project included a revised cockpit with colour LCDs and a Smart HUD from Sextant Avionique, a Sextant inertial navigation system with GPS interface; NATO-compatible Have Quick 2 secure communications; Mode 4 digital IFF; a defensive aids suite; and flight recorders. The radar was upgraded to Cyrano IVM standard, adding sea search and air to ground ranging modes. F1M appears to be the juiciest, or at least most interesting in that it may theoretically provide a module that's usable both in a Cold War and modern day context. The F1BE would be the second two-seater, very interesting for MP, but I'm not sure to what extent is a combat aircraft with a similar two-player experience like the F-14.

I grew up with Mirage F-1's, and have sat in SAAF No. 207. So its the supersonic jet I am most intimate with. F-1's were not 'smuggled' - they were openly sold, as were the III's bought by South Africa in the late 1960's. the F-1AZ Ground-attack variant (with laser-nose) was South Africa-specific, and is F-15E-accurate, and we are all looking forward to it. The SAAF DCS guys are working at breakneck pace to make proper camo jobs ...

The Iraqi Mirage F1EQ had the unique feature of using the metric system rather than the Imperial system on all cockpit instrumentation. The East has no real reflection of the F-14. The MiG-25 and MiG-31 are most closely reflected by the F-106 and the cancelled XF-108 Rapier project. The F-14 is a very unique aircraft. Remember that the whole idea of each side having an equivalent for the others’ aircraft isn’t just capability, but purpose. The Soviets/Russians don’t have a need for a fleet defence interceptor, since they only have one, mediocre carrier.

Why do the F14 Tomcat and Mirage F1 have so sensitive Pitch and Roll? Everytime I let my hand of the joystick it keep stalling or climing. I feel like I have to fight with the jet too hold it steady. These problems I have with F14 and Mirage. F-18, Viper and JF-17 dosen't have those problem at all. Is it any key binding or adjustment I can do?

The Enterprise and the Kitty Hawk class carriers all had Tomcat squadrons by the 70s, starting in 74 on the Big E. Same thing is true about the Kennedy and the Nimitz. The first Mig-23 variants and the F1 all entered service around this timeframe. They are all contemporaries, so I'm not sure what you meant there.

He simply meant that the Mig-23 is more the size and capability of the F-1, which is less than half the weight of an F-14.

@@jimrussell4062 I see, maybe it was my mistake. I'm not a native English speaker, so I could be wrong here but I thought contemporary simply refers to two things that existed at the same time period. If you only compare aircraft that are roughly on par in capability, weight, size, etc. then you'll severely limit your ability when it comes to evaluating the capability of a certain country in a given time period against another country.

From my readings no MiG-23s where shot down by F1s in the Angola war. In fact once the 23s showed up with all aspect missiles the F1's did not do direct engagements after F1 was damaged by a MiG-23 and crashed on landing paralyzing the pilot. I'm not sure which sources your using? Are you sure your not mixing up the MiG-23s for MiG-21s. That would match more to your statement, from what i've read and heard in interviews.

3:04 Typical ED, americanized (omit as many prepositions as possible): "Everything is subject change" :) Or as I like to word it in proper military style: TISWIPEISTCJGIATWITO ;) (This Is Still Work In Progress, Everything Is Subject To Change, Just Give It Another Two Weeks In The Oven) 3:09 Good old "Dark Cockpit Simulator"! :D - great it's being addressed already :) - and as I said below another video already, this is so much better in VR, especially with OLEDs (CV1, Q1, VIVE OG and Pro 1, Odyssey+). And I do have an expensive EIZO screen made for professional graphics use that's been calibrated by a pro, not a perfect gaming thing with just 60Hz, but the colors are as good as it gets - at least for when it was all fresh and new, back in around 2012-2014. 4:44 Mirage G entered the chat. Sadly, it never became a thing. 6:49 Absolute killer! Hats off! Every module should be like this... 10:53 It's so dark it won't even light up. Well, as a VR user that doesn't use the mouse, I haven't had the flashlight since mid 2019... 12:49 I wish I had that at home. Currently 39°C inside at noon, still rising. Gonna be around 40 outside, and typically it's up to 10 more inside. And I'm very, very far from the desert... 13:06 Is that similar to the M2kC? Love that! 15:05 So good! 29:21 Reminds me of the "take off flaps" chocks on the Seafire... :D 32:59 "Smoke colm" :) 34:34 Shou'ou' to the Viper! Just look at the trim hat and you massively overtrimmed it already... hate tha', makes me fly with symmetrical loadouts only! (and not with symmetrical CBU-97s, since their drag somehow is very asymmetric for whatever reason) 39:23 The French went for 2 of 'em. Good choice! Definately better for A2G... 42:39 Not only that... you don't need to get to knifing distance in order not to throw 200 rounds down range to kill that truck :) 49:47 My wallet is already anxiously hiding! :D - but to be fair, they are indeed an endagered species these days... XD 50:58 Even then it's just akward with the detent when it doesn't match the module. But I've seen an AB detent setting in one of Wags' videos already a while ago, but that's still not in our release or open beta builds. Gonna change a lot! 52:04 C-V A-7E entered the chat.
