I had the Spy Kids Trilogy on repeat as a kid!!! This franchise was so important to me as a young Latina. I unfortunately didn't see too many people like me on American TV or movies growing up

@riannameddar Yeah, I've seen it! The 4th one didn't really have the same re-watch value for me. It's probably because there was a big gap between 3 and 4 and I was already a teen at that point. I might need to watch it again as an adult to see if I like it more

Fun fact director Robert Rodriguez discovered he’s related to Danny Trejo on the set of Desperado when the same relatives went on set to visit them. Now he puts Danny in most of his movies.

I don’t remember the bit with the sharks. I swear the version I saw as a kid cut that out. It went straight from diving to spitting gum balls in a thumb’s face.

Yeah Netflix has the special edition with some scenes that were cut. The original release had Carmen wondering about the warm water and Juni apologizing.

The Spy Kids movies are apart of one of Danny Trejo’s movie series Machete universe. Minion is an idea man who’s manipulating Floop who’s the actual brains when it comes to all the creations. Also the parents weren’t really rusty they were betrayed and floop knew they were coming probably before they even left the house

It's been so long since I've seen the first Spy Kids movie, I remember owning a VHS of it but the part with the peeing next to the sharks wasn't in it, it's so annoying how much Europe/UK has cut out to the point when you see it you think to yourself "I don't remember seeing that before" 😅 Well I can't wait to see tumble down the Spy Kids rabbit hole

I was thinking the exact same thing, I owned this movie on vhs and watched it so many times and saw this in the video and it blew my mind I had never seen that part! I came to the comments to see if anyone else has seen that part before too. Thats crazy!

So weird seeing Carla in this, & now in the Mike Flanagan universe, & knowing I’ve liked her since Troop Beverly Hills & really throughout her entire career. Such an underrated, fantastic actress! & of the trilogy Spy Kids 2 is my favorite & the one I saw first. Had a HUGE crush on Matt O’Leary (Gary Giggles).

Kid was rocking bowties before the Doctor proclaimed them cool 😎 I just kept thinking, "bowties are cool" once he put on that outfit. He was a dapper little dude here. I haven't watched this move in years and Im realizing that was a mistake. I still enjoy it for the color and quirkiness and family feels. Thank you both for the react

I think I was about 12 years old when this came out so I was not the intended viewer, but my younger siblings watched these films multiple times when this was on tv. Weird, fun films for kids!

This gotta be an extended version cause I definitely don't remember those scenes with the sharks or Carmen putting the photo in front of the security camera. In the version I watched the scene was much shorter XD EDIT: After some research, I was able to find out the answer. The sleeping shark scene was always meant to be in the film, but Robert Rodriguez didn't have the budget for it and it wasn't in the original theatrical cut or the original home releases. After the movie was a hit, Rodriguez was able to complete the scene and the film was reissued in August of 2001. The scene remained unavailable on home releases until the 10th anniversary Blu-Ray.

Maybe they were cut for TV? I had the vhs tapes and I definitely remember those scenes. I could also just be misremembering when I sas them. I've seen it so many times it's possible the tapes didn't have them and I ended up seeing the scenes later.

@@marslara Nah, I've never watched a TV cut of Spy Kids, I've only ever saw it on home video and in theaters. Didn't get a chance to watch it on Netflix before it was removed so I can't check to see if the scene is on US Netflix. I was able to find the answer though! Man, the flooglies freaked me out so much as a child. Every other weird thing wasn't so bad, but damn, revisiting it now through you guys makes me realise just how disturbing a lot of this is! You could rework some of these ideas and make such a gnarly horror flick out of it. Also, the Tango & Cash connection is really funny considering Stallone was in the third Spy Kids movie.

I had this on dvd when I was a kid. Such a weird movie, but I loved it XD! Have you considered putting A Series of Unfortunate Events (the movie) on the reaction list? Also a movie with a weird vibe, but I think it was really really good considering they adapted 3 books from a 13 book series that wasn't even finished yet. I based way too much of my childhood personality on Violet and Klaus XD (and adulthood too, to be honest. They are vibes)

Wait, I do not remember a whole scene with sharks?? I remember they were swimming and Carmen made a comment about how the water suddenly felt warmer to which Juni mentioned that he had just peed, but then it cuts to them making it inside Floop’s Castle and gearing up. Is this some limited edition extended version?

Another comment explained that the movie had a re-release with a couple more scenes a few years after the movie initially released. So as far as I know the "modern" version has the extra scenes.

34:25 if a child comes upto you and links their arm with you it is usually a good idea to play along with them. In real life, a child could be trying to escape a kidnapper.

Ok, no joke, this is a great kids' movie. Cheesy, yes, but this movie (as well as Spy Kids 2 & 3) were so much fun and made like every kid around wanna play spies. It strikes right into the childhood imagination.

I don't remember the details of this movie, but I do remember seeing it and thinking it was good, silly fun. I enjoyed Terri Hatcher in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, also in Desperate Housewives, and 2 Days in the Valley (1996). Alan Cumming was fun to watch in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997), and my favorite movie he was in is Sweet Land (2005). I loved Eureka, was so sad when it was canceled.

I got curious why juni gets warts, so I looked it up. Supposedly it's because he constantly has sweaty hands from fear. Looking up if sweat leads to warts, results said it leads to constantly soft skin, and a bigger risk to HPV which causes warts. I wonder if this was their intended suggestion. 🤔

Even though the original is weird. It is still a classic & better than what the reboot tried to do. Some remakes shouldn’t have been made like for Mr & Mrs Smith.
