Good review, very in-depth. I love the Para2 but do agree it carries too high. I am a compression lock fan and I do not care for back locks in an EDC, so I have not purchased the Delica. Wondering what you think of the Sage 5? Compares to the Para 2 and carries much lower with the wire.

FINALLY somebody who gets it!! I totally relate to your thoughts on sizing, grip, and the rest. I'm stunned by how many people don't see obvious beauty of the sweet spot of this kind and size of knife. It's not too small....not too big....easy to carry....holds in the hand well...still looks authoritatively great....pivots and glides well. It's the whole experience. I think lots of people are thinking the same thing they just don't express it well because I'm stunned that I don't see more people talking about the para3 with the manix and sage etc. together. But I haven't seen them next to each other in person to know if it's just because they're radically different sizes though so maybe that's the issue. But online they seem to be very closely related. Anyway, thanks for going over your favs...these are looking like mine too.

I have the PM2 and love that knife. I do agree on one dislike you had with the knife, and that was how much real estate is exposed by the pocket clip. My biggest gripe with this Para 3 is the clip but also the price point. I would at most pay $90. Why would I pay more for the Para 3 when I got the PM2 for $115? It's the exact same except smaller, meaning less material so in my eyes, it should be less expensive. Great review as always.

_ISO_. You don't need to spend a bunch of money to get quality. You can easily get a quality folder for $30-40. So is it really worth it to pay double to get a knife that's just as nice? That's the dilemma.
@_iso_553
@_iso_553 6 жыл бұрын
Steve Smith you don't need much money $30-$40 to get a half decent at best folder. If you want a knife with a steel worth a damn and good handle scales and what not you will pay 100+ but I get it. Spending money = bad. But my philosophy is buy one cry once. Yours is probably different.
@SteveSmith-sd5hq
@SteveSmith-sd5hq 6 жыл бұрын
_ISO_. For folders, once you get past that $30-40 range, you really only start paying for the steel. The quality of the construction stays relatively the same. And for me, the steel on my folders isn't super important. Of course I want a quality steel, no Chinese garbage. But I'm perfectly happy with steels like Aus8, Kershaw's Sandvik steel, I'm even alright with 440 if heat treated properly. I mainly just cut open packaging and things of that nature with my knives. I'm not typically doing very hard work with my folders. I just don't need those "super steels".

Thanks Aaron. I really welcome your observations, I love the size and shape of the PM3 but my biggest concern was the ergos. I wanted to know what the handle felt like without the choil. Three finger grip? Pass. Ill stick to my PM2 and Delica 4. The lack of choil on the delica 4 doesnt really bother me at all, its what makes it so comfortable. The choil on my PM2 is executed perfectly and just as comfortable to hold without it. Thanks you saved me $$$.

I find the shorter and thicker blade bad for anything that involves deep slicing. For anything else its a good knife. I still like para 2 more

I wish KZfaq would allow pics in comments but I re-contoured the scales to fit xl-2xl glove sized hands while maintaining a factory look. The pm3 is just 1 nub from being perfect.

Great vid again Aaron! I've got to admit, I'm one of those Neanderthal knife lovers who just doesn't get Spyderco, on a whole, & folding knives for that matter. There must be something to these knives, as they've got a huge & consistent following...just not for me. On the Para(s) for example, the signature hole creates a thumb ramp/hump, which I can't stand on any knife....I don't know, I'm not qualified to break this knife down, I just know that the overall design repels me - give me a fixed blade, but if I can't have that, then give me a folder without all of the unnecessary built in flow-disrupters like the shape of the handle & spine...keep it simple, then again, again, Spyderco & their Para(s) have a huge fan base.
