Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch. This week Daemon is joined by Unlocked's Ryan McCaffrey, and IGN's Community Lead, Jada Griffin to discuss Square Enix's sales woes. The company admits that the storied Final Fantasy franchise has not been selling well as of late, with the latest two entries not meeting expectations. As a result, Square Enix will be undergoing a restructuring of sorts, and many are pointing to their exclusivity deal with Sony as a cause. But is that fair? Maybe gamers just don't care about Final Fantasy as much as they used to? And how much can Xbox benefit if Square Enix decides to let all their franchises go multiplatform? Plus we have poll results and a new poll to vote on at IGN.com.

Exclusivity is shitty to begin with. Notice how games have lower sales on another platform when the same game is released on some platform years later(For example, FF7 Remake could have gotten more sales if it wasn't exclusive on PlayStation at launch)

Platforms need to have exclusives. Why have so many console companies when they all give you the same games? PlayStation, Nintendo need to keep their exclusives. It may hurt game sales, but still that's what makes you buy a PlayStation or a Nintendo console.

7R and XVI aren't coming to Xbox. They couldn't even sell 1 mil. consoles last quarter and the install base is known not to buy games. Just not worth the port. 4:00 this just shows that y'all don't consider the benefits of third party deals at all. 6:32 insane that somebody would be quoting the heads of Xbox for something being unsustainable. 8:17 y'all areflip floping your positions game the game. It's not just that. Game development in general has increased massively in cost and time since then. AAA game studios have decreased in the amount while taking much much longer to release a single title. This is the main reason behind the current drought of AAA games.

About that poll at the end. If the Switch 2 has a 4K docked resolution it wouldn't be rendering games like that. GUI menus and video apps would be what that feature would be for. Nintendo not providing backwards compatibility would be a gut punch to players, so yeah it needs that. Hall Effect sticks on the new joy-con would solve stick drift.

Third-party exclusivity deals only serve to hurt the market and gamers themselves. When you buy a console to just play a single game then there's no competition, you don't choose the better piece of hardware, or the one that suits your needs best, or even the one with the best studios.

@@wolfgangvonhertzen9820there's no incentive to compete, to improve, players end up buying the console that runs their game, not the one with better hardware or even better price, competition is the key to a healthy market

Not surprised they have blamed everybody but themselves for putting out last gen slop for next gen rates- and dont even have it on the past gen- wont even admit they broke even over charging and undercutting. Was failing and scheming xbox right about exclusives while they make moves to own multi platform games they can make exclusive?
