Hands down my favorite part about this series is that...the H came in the shop for a rear-end gear whine and paint prep. *proceeds to tear everything apart*

Saw you use side cutters to pull out the Woodruff key. I've always struggled with those and usually ended up damaging them with a punch and a hammer. I'll have to try that next time! Really glad you got an answer for that head I'm sure that was frustrating not knowing.

I for one think that Squatch knows if his engine is clean enough to leave together, he put it together after all. As far as slackers are concerned, could there be any less of one really. Glad the engine head will serve as a good direct replacement, still a gasoline only, right? Then Happy, Happy.Your relief during the discription was palpable. Living right, I see Squatch.Good stuff, Toby

Having worked within a company that built helicopters, I can tell you the engineers are NOT mechanics. My job was to inform engineers "You can't install that, its got 43 small parts that you think a mechanic is going to have 6 elbows and 18 fingers to manipulate every part ... K.I.S.S. is the law not the rule". I wrote up so many design improvements.... so, no, they didn't think of you or your basic human needs. Some days? They forget about physics.

Thanks for this video series on the Farmall H. I've really enjoyed it because of the memories it brings back. My grandfather had a Farmall A on his farm in NC, but it was sold about 45 years ago. While I know the H and A are different tractors, there are enough similarities that your videos bring back good memories. Thanks again

There's enough blue silicone used that kept silicone manufacture in business LOL. Don't worry my little brother has you beat he used blue silicone on all gaskets. I mean all gaskets like head gaskets both sides and squeezed out everywhere LOL. Headgaskets didn't hold engine got hot silicone plugged most of coolant ports I'm not kidding.

Just happened by your channel and was pleasantly surprised to find an H tear down in progress! While I love watching car channels like Vice Grip Garage, my heart is in IH Farmalls, having grew up around an H, M, and F20 and more recently rebuilding three Cubs, three IH Cub Cadets, and of course, a '51 H. Not to the extent that you're doing, but still... Awesome job. I'll be heading back to watch episodes 1-16 next!

Squatch in my opinion with the highly likely scenario that you described with the water in the oil I would be more apt to pull rod and main bearings and check for pitting as they would have been sitting in the water where as the cam would have only come in contact with it after the running from the garage to the shop.

The two “pot metal” rear main seal halves should not be too deformed, with modern gasket and sealing materials you probably did not have to torque to 95 ft lbs to get a good seal.

Hi squatch253 liking the preparation H project very informative as always. I'm hopeful in the process of buying back 1 of my grandads tractors which also is an H, I've been told by my uncle who remembers the tractor as a young lad that it used to put coolant in the engine oil, are there any other possibilities that could cause this other than a faild head gasket or a cracked head. Many thanks Dan. (England)👍👍

11:32 reminds me of old Mercedes blocks. There's quite a few compromises they did to fit in various pieces. If you go in without prior knowledge, you can get gipped by all the sealing surfaces that require specific and proper use of sealant and sealing interfaces. My first time putting one back in my grandpa's old Merc... well, suffice it to say that i never saw an engine leak like a sieve before.
