Squidge Rugby

5 жыл бұрын

As 2019 just kicks off, Squidge Rugby continues its' celebration of the best rugby of the year just gone. Today, it's time for those who ran the show whilst running the game in 2018...
If you've enjoyed any of the channel's content, you can also support Squidge Rugby on Patreon by visiting / squidgerugby , which allows me to produce 6 videos in consecutive days, like is happening this week.
You can also check out the channel's sponsor, Rugby Warfare- a rugby clothing brand that creates unique, technical and functional apparel crafted for the rugby lifestyle. Use code "SQ20" at checkout for 20% off. If you're a fan of opening hyperlinks, you can click www.rugbywarfare.com/store to visit the store and shop now.
And finally, even though I forgot to mention it in the video, Malawi are trying to get a national 7s team off the ground for the first time ever, and need help to get them to the African Rugby Championship. You can give them a hand at www.backabuddy.co.za/malawi-7....

I'd say he more likely means Sexton doesn't have the same speed and attacking ability as beauden. Sexton is a brilliant controller of the game but beaudens speed is such an asset. Like Sexton wouldn't have been able to stop dyanti (probably butchered that. The south African winger) from scoring a run away try like beauden did in the last game the abs played against sa. That's my guess anyway

@@adamdickinson2894 Barrett missed three kicks in the remaining six games of the season after the Wellington loss, and two were against Italy that the AB's put 60 on. The other was against Australia that they won comfortably. So against Argentina away, South Africa away, Australia at home, England away and Ireland away he was kicking at 95% or 16/17 attempts. That's not including 2/3 drop goals.

I think it's actually a case of mistaken identity. There was a half decent guy by that name about ten years ago. Then this joker turned up, fly-hacking clearances and generally losing games single-handedly. It wouldn't be the first time. Remember that imposter who played at 10 during the Saint-Andre era by pretending to be the same Frederic Michalak who lit up the 2003 World cup?

Firstly it’s his honourable mentions and Finn was included in that list for his England moment, which was his only serious highlight for Scotland. And it’s not about who’s best this list, it’s about who stood out. It’s about who’s made themselves noticeable in Squidge’s eyes. Outside of “that pass” Finn had a much more inconsistent year, largely due to the nonsense off the pitch the SRU put him and his family through but even since moving to Racing he hardly lit shit up for Scotland, certainly not with great consistency. Sanchez was good all year round and as Squidge said, Argentina did something good, Sanchez was usually fully involved or responsible for it. The same cannot be said for Finn, who did his share but Jones stands out as our standout player this year. Finn’s been great since moving to Racing but he’s yet to harness that form where he stands up as MOTM for Scotland, blowing everyone away with a complete or near as damnit complete performance. Also doesn’t kick goals for Scotland unless Laidlaw’s not on, which hurts the argument for him on that basis be Sanchez who takes virtually all Argentina’s shots at goal. He is a sniper and on paper yes he’s so much better than Sanchez shooting at goal, but unless you’re the designated kicker taking the shots, I’m not gonna argue for you ahead of the other guy who is always taking them for his team. Have to actually be doing it to get in for it and Finn’s not.

Yeah it was Johnnies' year., however, I'd be curious to know what you think about him: A) Staying healthy B) Lack of pace ...uh oh I'm criticizing Sexton!!! No actually I'm not. Just an observation that I feel is something he is able to play around and still be outstanding despite lacking. For example, in the game v the ABs ...he was superb, managing the game putting Ireland into the positions to control the game and putting in a great shift in the defensive line (not always a given for a 10). Yet in that game the lack of pace showed up ...and under different circumstances might prove costly. The highlight you show actually. In that moment Sexton hit a gap about 15-20 from ABs line. Had that been Ford, OF, FR, BB or Hanscomb they score. Sexton looked ...well downright prop slow. He was fairly easily caught and as memory serves turned over.
@higuk999
@higuk999 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah i'd say your right about the pace he has shown but he is a back and for his whole career pace has been a focus, so i wouldn't say he could beat any of the other top flyhalfs but he is still probably fairly fast. In saying that i think he has got to a point in his own way where pace is almost unnecessary from him he as realised he will never be a Jacob Stockdale or Keith Earls but he has realised he doesnt need to be because they are both playing either side of him so he focuses on putting them into a good position and for a player who gets a bad rep for being a bit like a soccer player i'd say its a fairly selfless style of play that deserves credit and has proven time and time again that it is effective. i will always appreciate sexton not because of his flair or finesse as a player but his ability to make a team better if you're 5% worse than barrett but you make the rest of your team 10% better are you really the worse player.

Nah. Health & more specifically availability matters. It truly isn't that difficult to see Murray getting hurt again. He is a big 9 and thus a bigger target. One of the things that makes Faf so good is it is almost impossible to lay a heavy tackle on him. Murray on the other hand gets crashed into in every game he plays.
@higuk999
@higuk999 5 жыл бұрын
@@jessran70 However Murray's injury record has been impeccable up until now, before the November series he held the most minutes played as an Irish player in the whole world cup gap. I think 1 multiple game injury in 5-6 years is honestly is very hard to beat and to over look his consistent form would be a bit dumb. Also it was very likely Murray was ready to play and slot straight back as he did with Munster in November but the irfu spotted shallow experience at 9 and allowed the back up 9's a chance to shine. @@lgdude9050 Agreed. He has big time potential and if he stays healthy will be in discussion at some point. One thing he does do better than any other 9? Support lines. Best I have seen from any 9 in years. His defense needs work as does his box kicking. Everything else (especially speed of service) is excellent.
