Detailed instructions for tying an SR2 Nymph.
Recipe:
Hook: FM 5115, size 16.
Bead: 3/32" nickel black tungsten bead.
Thread: UTC 70, black.
Tail: Pheasant tail fibers, dyed chocolate brown.
Abdomen: Stretch round rib, small, brown.
Wingcase: Saltwater Flashabou, large, pearl.
Thorax & Legs: Australian possum dubbing, dark brown.

I've been a subscriber a while now, and recently have been watching/listening to the Tim and Tom Tie-off's.. I greatly appreciate both of these guys and their expertise. What surprised me though was realizing who the iconic voice behind tightline videos actually was.... it's Tim Flagler!! The HQ voice on tightline productions doesn't sound like Tim's voice in the tie-offs or other videos for some reason, or at least on my speakers. I actually think this is really special. As much as Tim deserves praise or recognition, he doesn't ask for it here. He doesn't make himself the focus of the channel, but rather the flies, the methods, and the original inventors of each pattern. Very respectable... the attributes of the greats.

Front to back whip finish. I assume this would be the standard but now I’m curious if there’s another method and when it would be applied? Nice fly as always.

He actually specifies back to front, not front to back. This is because a back to front whip finish creates a smoother and stronger knot. Going from the front to the back makes a lumpier knot that's more like to break... The other alternative people use is a series of half hitches, though again a back to front whip finish is smoother and stronger

Hello Tim and thanks for another great video. Have a couple of questions entirely unrelated to this video. On one of your videos it showed your spool of tinsel with an elastic band dispenser holding the tinsel and keeping it from unraveling. Did you make that or can you buy them some where? Second question; is there some reason so many people whip finsh with a tool instead of doing it by hand? Ir’s so quick and easy by hand I don’t know why more people don’t do it. Anyways thanks again and look forward to your next video.

I think he has a video on his channel about the spool tenders. Look up "DIY Spool Tenders Tightline" and it should come up. As for the whip finish I think it comes down to the fact that the tool allows for more precision, especially for super small flys. In the end of the day it's personal preference with no perfect answer.
