Can't catch fish because of weather, the grocery store is full of canned fish. Here is a review of some different brands of sardines.

The response to eating sardines while fishing has been great. So I started a channel called Time to eat the bait and will feature a different tin of seafood every Wed. and Sat. I would edit out the sardine part to keep the videos short but people keep commenting where is time to eat the bait?

Ate half a Brunswick, gave the remainder to my dog. Ate half a Season, ate the remainder myself. My personal favorites so far are the Polar smoked Brisling sardines.

I have fond memories of my dad eating sardines, Mackerel and Smoked Oysters. I have always loved any form of canned oily fish. I have always ate 2 cans of sardines a week for the last thirty years. When you don't want to be bothered by the wife or kids down a can of Sardines or Mackerel before the night is over you will be left alone, Or you will get the whole bed for the night. LOL

Love me some canned seafood. I grew up extremely poor with 6 siblings. My dad and I were the only ones who enjoyed sardines so we were guaranteed to always have a snack in the pantry. Now that I'm older and slightly richer, the best sardines I've had are Nuri sardines from Portugal. They cost a fortune as far as sardines go but damn are they good. I never go camping or fishing without them. There's also a Hawaiian dish made with canned sardines that's really good. Can't think of the name right now but you can find recipes on KZfaq for it.

2/19/23......Sardines, ROCK!.....Weekly sardine eater, here! They are great in chicken broth,...makes a swell, poor man's fish soup. Had it for dinner last night. Plus croutons. I eat all the brands you are showing. An inexpensive meal, plus they are an excellent source of protein, plus Omega 3 vitamin benefits. Kippered Herring fillets is another favorite of mine. They provide you a cheap meal that is GOOD for you. I'm almost 70 years old, been eating them since I was a kid. Back when the tins required you use a built-in, metal "key", to pull back the top. Sometimes the present day, modern tins, will not open properly. It is possible the pull tab will fail, and you could be "shit-out-luck", in terms of opening them, if you don't have a mechanical rotary can opener, in your kitchen tool drawer. That is really a rare occurrence. They are better than eating a cookie, to stave off hunger. They are mild, and usually low in salt. They taste good in salads, even though I am not a fan of salads, Ha! They are a perfect "emergency" food. Keep some cans in your car, they never go bad. Great for camping trips. If your power ever goes out during a winter storm, they will keep you alive and satisfied. I used to add A-1 steak sauce, poured over a serving, when I wanted to be "fancy". Delish!

@@SRadigFishing Yeah, I buy a brand of chicken broth that has less salt & fat. Add a tin of sardines, chop it up a bit,.....into the micro-wave to heat it up. ( a person could get fancy and add already cooked vegetables),...not me, I'm too lazy.

There's a few brands with mustard or tomato sauce I love. I've had all the brands you showed here. I agree with you about nutrients missing on the skinned and deboned types. Costco has a nice brand here in Louisiana. My favorite way to eat sardines is in a sandwich with thin-sliced onions, mustard and maybe some capers or sliced pepproncini. The herring I just like straight out of the tin. You mention canned salmon: makes the best "burger" patties. The best smoked herring, etc., I've ever had came from a Deli in Los Angeles where they sell the whole fish. My Polish in-laws always served herring in white sauce from a jar at holiday meals. Good stuff.

King Oscar makes a version called "Tiny Tots", which are smaller sardines. They are excellent. A lot of the cold water fish from Thailand, like salmon and tuna, and I assume sardines, are really cold water fish that are processed on factory ships in Thailand. For example, there are no salmon native to Thailand, or any other tropical country. If you ever go to Japan, in sushi bars order iwashi, which is the Japanese word for sardines. They are excellent, and are one of the least expensive things to order.

I eat sardines and herring often. I only buy if they are not packed in oil. Packed in oil is a crap shoot - olive oil is not likely to be of high quality and vegetable oils are very inflammatory. My preferred fish isVita brand herring is wine sauce or in cream sauce. I love fried herring (bratherring) and herring in mustard sauce. Even packed in water is better than oil. And I'm with you: skin and bones. Need that collagen. I found this video very informative. Thanks.

Soybean oil is a deal-breaker. Tried some Nuri brand from Portugal recently. Very good quality, but expensive.

I ate a lot of canned sardines when I was in Portugal. A wine bar in Lisbon served me some in the can!

Well, I was planning to have a full English breakfast. But your video was so entertaining that I had to pause it midway to search for a can of sardines so I could eat Sardines on toast. Thanks for making my day. Hope the rain cleared up. I subscribed....

Trader Joe’s and Season are both very good tasting. I haven’t tried a brand I didn’t like.

Great video, and I concur on your ratings. Polar, and every other can from Germany I've had are excellent, but usually the most expensive. Brunswick has a kipper called "Golden Smoked" I find them to be smoked more than the standard and much closer to Polar in texture. Keep an eye out for them.

I've been eating sardines since at least the fourth grade when it was a great way to clear out a table of girls so my buds had a place to sit in the school cafeteria. NEVER cut my hands or fingers.

I prefer mine packed in water but get along fine with most brands. I just tried those Brunswick fillets last week. Only got one tin since I'd never seen them before. I'll be grabbing more of those later. The kipper snacks I've been on come in a paper box, don't recall the name but good and smokey. Great snacks to have around for the keto diet.

I've had all of these, the Brunswick herring is the best. I like the Brunswick sardines too. Got to be in oil.

Great Value sardines are excellent for under a buck. I eat them exclusively. 2 cans a day.

I find the cheap ones are the same quality as high priced tins!
