What a lucky first round as a Coroner, I wanted to do something with Organ Harvester for a long time. But I've never used it before, turned out you can't put cuffed person in (and they easily can crawl out of machine if not cuffed). So stuns/railling around the machine advised.
Rant time. It may seem like TG has added new and interesting job, but as usual in their style, the game has gotten worse. Coroner has no gameplay other than 1 dissection and questionable roleplay (even less on MRP servers because no one dies).
So just don't play coroner, what's the problem?
Behind that dissection (which requires coroner tools) researches for half the departments are closed. Someone cited a statistic that in 36% of rounds dissection was not done. tl;dr added chore for the sake of timegates.

Reminds me of a run where I set up an emagged harvester in the commissary and marketed it as a "suicide booth". Options were fast and painless or slow and horrible, with the gag being that I would pretend to use the wrong setting if people asked for fast and painless. Since it was fairly late in the round I got a surprising amount of customers. Including one guy that I had to pay 100c... for suicide.

If you only need to knock people out you could try the radioactive microlaser instead. Infinite uses and it pairs extremely well with the hypno flash for a budget revolution.

God o hate that I revived it. I used it one time and got half the crew hypno flashed but it felt so lazy and dirty like murderbone on low pop, thankfully after the whole server realized the potential once more it's died down again with only a few people being lazy about greentext doing it.

Did they add a coroner job to TG? IDK sounds like something to be absolutely forgotten by the players, this is a job for high RP servers. We already have the Detective who's supposed to perform autopsies and solve crimes, and we all know that he ends up doing neither and just chasing assistants around the station like a budget security guard with more drip.

They did give it some mechanical function as bodies that have been processed by a coroner have greatly increased medical tend speed (great for bodies with metric asstons of damage) and also the coroner can also do autopsies to tell how someone died etc

Basically, they only added it because Medical Borgs were doing all the dissection. It was literally added just to slow down the dissection experiments (Coroner gets an exclusive item that's now used in the surgery experiments).

Coroner is flavorful though its pretty barren once you get the dissections done, since its yet another chore job like viro and genetics. I think autopsies would be far more useful if damage packets saved info on what caused them outside of wounds.

I wonder how you could make the job engaging in the long term if its going to be its own job. It needs more options when it comes to bodies, it needs to be more open to mischief, more RP oppurtunities and in general needs to be more enaging. I can barely think of options because its such a specific job title. If you mix in a mortician and make them responsible for organizing funerals with the chaplain you have a very good RP setup at least. I'd also make their supervisor security instead of medical so they can be an active part of an investigation. You could even give them a scanner that scans blood samples removing it from the detective so you need a coroner to investigate murder scenes as well for more information

Yeah Coroner as a role's just not great at all. Your job is to do 2 dissections on a human and any non-human and that's it, while a significant chunk of research is locked behind those. And on top of that you have an additional surgery, Autopsy, that does what a health analyzer does already way better, jsut so you can get a 20% surgery speed on a corpse for medics to patch up, and why would they need that when they could do it faster without bothering with it is beyond me, but from a short argument about it I was told that "they might as well just nerf analyzers and it will be perfect"

Give coroner proper station that can upgrade fresh organs they get from players. Perhaps some rare chems as a side product. Player that was dissected should also get some bonus, may be increased tator chance for next round. Optionally increase it higher if chaplain makes a proper burial which also rewards chaplain.
