ST BRIAVELS CASTLE - England's worst prison and overnight in the oubliette room!

Nestled in the Forest of Dean and overlooking the River Wye, sits the UK's most fantastic YHA, St Briavels castle. We spent a wonderful evening relaxing in the old chapel and slept in the west tower of Edward I's gatehouse in a room housing the castle's oubliette!
The castle at St Briavels was built in the 12th century and was the Crown's administrative and judicial centre for the Forest of Dean, as well as an arsenal for locally produced weaponry. Its royal visitors included King John, who favoured the castle as a hunting lodge. The castle remained in use as a prison and a courthouse long after it had lost its military functions. It was fully restored in the mid-20th century and now operates as a YHA.

I went there on a school trip when I was about 10/11 years old. I think the girls stayed in the dungeon room. Another great video.

I stayed in that bed last weekend for 3 nights. It wasn't up those stone stairs though, it was on the ground floor...the stairs were obviously for dramatic video effect. A great place to stay and loads to see in surrounding area. Loved the hostel and no spooky happenings.

Thanks for a great episode. My dear late twin and I visited in 2015 and had a good look around. We went in King Johns room but missed the lock up there. That was fascinating - all the graff. And what was that big hole called? Well, I take it no ghosts. Another YHA on the horizon maybe. All the best. Mark

A bit less of the ghost nonsense (a theme that runs through many of your uploads) and a bit more facts and history on its structure, design, usage, would be more beneficial especially to the adults in your audience. Your channel is more style than substance.
